A few mods here are on it using the same names as here as well so make sense of that.

How did I miss that site opening up?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 10,037 ✭✭✭✭con747

People were banned for mentioning it back then so it wasn't really known here unless you knew about it before the clamp down on the name.

    Edit.

You should check out the members list, a lot of familiar names from here both banned and present including active mods here.

I signed up to the one year subscription this morning, cheaper than a monthly pint and gives me sufficient enjoyment to be justified.

I signed up to the other place years ago but for me it never gained momentum.

That place is a graveyard if ever I saw one.

    A complete failure

With a bit of luck it won't even come under consideration but if all else fails here a new home will be needed. Now if everybody who got multiple bargains on here just signed up for a monthly subscription it would help but I see a hell of a lot of people who I know saved hundreds this past week alone not bothering yet, I hope they do but it's their choice. I saved over a grand so far this year alone so I'll happily put my money in to try help.

I remember signing up to it. We used our boards names to make life easy . I see a previous name still works

So i just read four pages, and we still are not going anywhere 😂

Sounds like it was poorly executed then.

It's a shame because it would be a good platform for Irish bargains.

Not 100% sure what the above site will be like but worth checking out for deals - especially if this place becomes a thing of the past.

Off on yer bike with your referral link for "Ireland's upcoming destination for the best deals and discounts'

Points, badges, referrals, all nice sh1te site warning signs while they're hoovering up your data.

For the sake of 50 quid a year lads is it really going to break the bank… the good news is since I paid up the ads are gone and the page stopped that annoying scrolling

    Two threads on this topic!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 240 ✭✭Prunty

Fill in your email or don't, what's the problem? I'm sure HUKD started somewhere and we all use that.

Just to get some insight from an expert like yourself - what data are they hoovering up bar the email address that you can choose to give them or not give them?

There is serious irony from people complaining about boards subscription in the bargain alert forum but will have easily have saved the subscription price over any given period had it not been for boards in the first place 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,437 ✭✭✭Esse85

A lot of purchases on there are purchased because of a discount, rather than a need to have the product.

It's the fun of saying they bought a product and saved x amount.

When the majority of time they don't actually need the product, nor are they actively in the market for it. It's impulse buying.

I think many, not all, would be better off financially if they didn't view the bargain section.

1st problem is you posting a link without telling people it's a referral.

2nd problem is you saying that you're not 100% sure what the un-launched site will be like implies that you have some idea and so have some connection (otherwise you'd say you had no idea).

3rd problem is you then saying it's 'worth checking out for deals' when it hasn't launched yet and could be an absolute scamjob heap of shïte

A working email and knowledge of where you've browsed from (i.e part of your browsing habits) is plenty data that I choose not to give them.

    BOARDS.IE IS A SHIᎢ WEBSITE.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 240 ✭✭Prunty

1st problem - the link opens to a page stating it's a referral, I'm assuming if people have read the original post they'll still be literate when the link opens. Maybe I should have stated it was a referral beforehand, apologies if that was a misstep on my part.

2nd problem - I'm completely unaffiliated, I do have some idea of what it might be, again thanks to the ability to read the information provided at the page the referral leads to. A friend sent me a referral and I posted mine here - that's the long and short of it. I'm sure you've posted referrals yourself before on here.

3rd - 'worth checking out for deals' obviously works off the assumption that the site launches as described.

If people supply an email that's there choice, the site is only going to gather their browsing information if they choose to use the site.

If boards does fail, which I hope it doesn't but I don't use it enough to pay for a subscription, I will 100% not miss the condescending people on here who arrive to a thread with knives out waiting for an issue, or creating an issue, to dig their heels in over.

Amazing paranoia to assume from a two line post about a new deals site - that included a referral - that I had a connection to the site and was looking to profit off the poor boards users you've charged yourself to protect. Keep up the heroics!

A bit of digging and found the guy behind promotional codes.ie is making the site I posted above so it probably will be rubbish. Didn't need the agro response it got but probably not worth giving the site a second thought.

that Gubu looks like a rat infested toilet, and as for stardeals, ho hum. So yes with the money saved from bargain alerts , which for me goes all the way back as far as the free hotel rooms on Galway in January was it 2009 or 2010, but that was a great deal. And yes bargains no bargain if you don’t really need it . Said from a room full of devices and wires not needed.
