More importantly, 35 PL goals and 13 assists between them. If they can achieve even 50% of that output next season that means an additional 24 goals for us which would make a MASSIVE difference to the points tally come the end of the season. I think not having Europe this season could be a huge difference maker.

I think Hojlund and Zirkzee as our striking options is still a legitimate excuse.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,039 ✭✭✭DiscoStew

Out of interest how many of those goals were penalties for Cunha and Mbuemo?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,457 ✭✭✭Tandey

Hopefully we can move some of those soft touch leeches on soon after those two absolutely fantastic signings. Then maybe a Mateta or similar proven goal scorer to help out Hojlund if he sticks around.

Mbeumo scored 5 pens. Cunha was 0. So non own 30 goals between them.

Something I’m questioning now is where does Mount fit into this team. Amorim really likes him - he works hard, presses high and can have some flashes of quality but it feels like he is an expensive player to be carrying.

I’m guessing he would have to settle for impact sub (Cunha backup) but at the same time he doesn’t feel like an impact player to me in the way Garnacho can be at times for example. 47 appearances and only 4 goals & 1 assist. Unfortunately due to his fitness issues a lot of those would have been brief appearances but still it isn’t a great return.

He is likeable and I hope that he has a good season, stays fit and can contribute but he’s a bit of a question mark for me.

we still are relying on Hojlund up front and Onana in goals.

They will now hold us back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,844 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Amorim should hopefully be able to coach them on how he wants his CF to play now that he has two players in Cunha and Mbeumo who fully suit what he wants from the support players in attack.

Cunha and Mbeumo will want the CF playing on the shoulder of the CBs to create room for them to run at the defence in the final third.

Zirkzee could be an issue given he's natural instinct is to drop back deep for the ball. But he could offer something different playing deeper with the 10s making runs in behind.

This isn't me defending Hojlund before anyone wants to start a rant about how **** he is. But I think we'll see him wrestling less with CBs and dropping deep this season. Think Cunha and Mbeumo will provide better service for the CF this season than the 10s last season. With them in the team there's no reason for him dropping deep looking for the ball.

Plus if Amad plays RWB that's our best ten from last season still offering us an attacking option. Might get better output from Dorgu too with the me feiner gone from the team.

Hojlund could come good, but we can't rely on it. If we go into the season with him as first choice (not Zirkzee cause his style isn't a perfect fit imo) we are making a MASSIVE gamble.

The service will improve, but he if he is still making runs at the wrong time, to the wrong spots, and also can't control the ball… the service won't matter.

I'd be expecting both Cunha and Mbeumo to see a fair chunk of minutes at CF, especially Mbeumo as Bruno/Amad are also options on the right.

If we were to land Richard Rios next I'd be pure giddy with excitement for this season.

Planning on going to the Chelsea game at Old Trafford on September.
I see the game is down for a 3pm Saturday KO. Is there a chance that the fixture would get moved to accommodate tv listings ? Seems unusual that it’s not on UK tv and not super Sunday too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,397 ✭✭✭Quags

I say that depends on Chelsea and CL draw but If i was a betting man I would say that gets moved for TV. I would say Lpool/Everton be 12pmSat KO, Arsenal/City 4pm Sunday & United 5.30pm Sat or maybe vice versa with Arsenal/City

TV Games for that weekend haven't been announced yet. Every chance it gets moved

I'm sure they'll be replaced, Romano (I know I know) tweeting we're working on a striker.

It will be interesting, he might be viewed like Maz, Bruno and Amad in that he can take on various roles/functions depending on the set up of the team?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,308 ✭✭✭✭FourFourRED

Mbeumo medial this weekend according to Ornstein. Should be sorted by Tuesday so. Best fishing trip in a long time.

In other news, Amass is set to go out on loan this season according to Simon Stone. He isn’t travelling tomorrow but Diego Leon is.

Zirkzee not travelling for the Leeds match. Along with Onana the only squad member unavailable.

Is this back 3 too inexperienced? I like an actual left footed LCB and can't see Martinez be anywhere near the player he was and I don't think the club is looking at CBs.

HEaven more so than Yoro a question mark for me - i worry about his intensity and physicality - seems a bit lax.

BUT - I would 100% go with that trio as a first choice. and if I were to argue a change, it would be Maguire for MDL.

Whether tht is or becomes first choice, no idea. MAzraoui at RCB with Yoro LCB is a strong possibility to be first choice, imo. and if Amad is RWB you could argue a fullback more used to defending wide (Mazraoui) is a better fit at RCB.

As many others have said, you'll need to wait and see and every chance it gets moved. Assume it will.

You'll just have to keep an eye for when TV fixtures get announced and then book your flights. Plan for all possibilities - the longer you leave it after the TV fixtures get announced, the more you pay. Even an hour can cost €50/100 more each.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,750 ✭✭✭el Fenomeno

Harry Amass too, as they are looking to send him out on loan.

So the latest is United will sign a striker in the next week

Florian Plettenburg saying Jackson is being closely monitored by United but other options being assessed

Sesko has been mentioned but has a hefty price tag. I read Vivell has history with him?

Gyokeres still available..most likely Arsenal bound but you never know

    Osimhen

    Watkins

The Estupinan link which I found odd has gone quiet and he is now close to joining AC Milan

As for a GK, I dont know…22m for Martinez apparently

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,716 ✭✭✭✭y0ssar1an22

squad depth not looking too bad, with 1 massive exception. need to sign a number 9, and then see what we can do with the GK's. also light in CM (collyer may get decent minutes) so would like someone signed there also if possible.

you could also argue for needing a LWB. i guess we'll see how dorgu and leon do in pre-season.

have left out the 5 lads, plus kids like amass (loan?), wheatley, collyer.

and there is more flexibility to the below, like amad can play 10 for example.

    next weeks.

I'd say striker is wrapped up with Garnacho.

    1. we need the money from selling him to fund a striker.
    2. Chelsea and Villa are credited with interest but they might only be offering a deal for Garnacho of Jackson or Watkins go the other way to balance it out PSR wise.

I assume if we could get a straigt sale for Garnacho we would do that and then try buy a striker seperte - maybe we go for Sesko rather than Jackson or Watkins; but our hands might be somewhat forced.

I'd find Sesko an odd one for us - he'll surely cost 70m+, or Arsenal would be signing him instead of Gyokeres. He'd be a far more interesting signing than Jackson or Watkins, but Watkins is probably a better fit right now.

    Osimhen there is no chance.

They are only ever provisional dates. In reality, Sky & TNT will release whenever everything gets confirmed and at their leisure. Suspect the September fixtures will be out in the next week or two.

Sounds like some PSR fuckery with Chelsea or Villa incoming, I'd love Watkins.
