If no striker incoming, praying that Hojlund's form turns around with a lot more creativity now in behind, with Cunha/Bruno/Mbuemo. Such a massive upgrade

Yeah I think these two players would even improve the output from our current CFs. Especially if it means Dorgu and Amad are your WBs. Playing with Dalot or Maz at RWB weakens that side as your asking FBs to try play as wingers in attack.

If our CFs still struggle with those players around him attack then there's no hope for them. Though I still think the club should give Vlahović some consideration.

High wages but it's only going to be for one season and I think Juventus would be happy for him to leave without a fee if you covered his wages. Just don't see great value in the CF options on the market. Even Watkins would probably only be worth it if it was a PSR type deal with them buying Garnacho and us buying Watkins.

Ben Jacobs reporting that United consider this the final offer, open to tweaking terms but no increase in value.

They also want it done and dusted in time for Mbeumo to travel to the US on Tuesday.

Jacobs also said that Mbeumo has again told Brentford that he wants it sorted. How strongly that was worded is anyone's guess, as is how much weight it would carry.

    Reliable for Brentford

    Expected to be accepted.

Hopefully they don't try and drag it out until they sort out his replacement.

They already have Hutchinson from Ipswich lined up so I can't see that causing issues tbh

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,841 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Yeah but they didn't want to meet his release clause in full and now that's passed Ipswich could drag out that transfer. I don't think it should given we're offering over £60M fixed fee. They've also confirmed new minority shareholder investment so hopefully now things speed along with that deal and we get a confirmation by the weekend.

I was going to say we should give him Sancho's squad number, but he doesn't seem to have one. Think he used to wear 25 but Ugarte has taken that.

Plus Mbeumo is 19 at Brentford, it's in his social media details, and currently available at United so I suspect he'll have that.

Craig Norwood tweeted this, he's the club photographer and always does this when a signing is about to be announced.

70M is a fair price for a player like Mbeumo. Maybe we could have gotten him for 5M cheaper a few weeks ago but in the grand scheme of things I think we are coming out with the better side of the deal here. 28 G/As last season alone is a serious return for a player at that price, plus he's been consistently delivering in PL for a few years now. If he comes in it changes pur attack completely. Cunha likes to drop a bit deeper and dribble with the ball with Mbeumo is lethal in the final third and around the box. 2 great signings and should improve us a lot.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

He's no longer officially the club photographer, he's a freelance photographer these days but still seems to have excellent connections at OT.

    Deal looks like it's done.

Flashbacks to the kyrogen(I think it was) call we used to use on here 😂😂😂😂

Christ we've a few weeks before we confirm the signing, never mind giving him his number!

If Mbueno was Uniteds target this summer, then what exactly was stopping them doing the deal months ago and having it all done and dusted for the opening of the transfer window?

If they are backed in a corner now its because as usual they sat on their hands far too long.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,841 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Brentford said from day one they wanted similar to Cunha which was a fixed fee of 62.5M. Believe our first bid was £45M fixed fee and then bid £55M fixed fee. Putting the tinfoil hat on it's like big Jim was wanting to save himself a few bob on not paying the wages 😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,067 ✭✭✭✭bucketybuck

    Whats day one though?

Was it 8 months ago when we knew the likes of Rashford and Sancho were done and the manager wanted a whole new team?

New boss. Same as the old boss.

With no European football you'd imagine it's going to be two players per position. If Mbeumo gets over the line Bruno plays in that midfield two and you've also got Casemiro, Ugarte, Collyer, and Mainoo that can play there.

Surely would mean no CM is going to come in. Yeah Mainoo can be a back up 10 but if we push for CF next you'd imagine Zirkzee would play more as a 10 if Hojlund is insisting on staying.

Would it be worth finding Collyer a loan? Get him some solid minutes as a starter to either come back a better player for us or maybe get some decent bids for him next summer.

What stops the deal being done months ago could be down to a myriad of factors but you know this.

The market isn't static and situations change. Let's say United come straight in with an offer of 65 +5. Do you think it would be accepted or do you think they'd try squeeze us for more?

I don't buy the narrative the club were sitting on their hands. I think they are playing a delicate balancing act. If we get this over the line then I personally would be pleased with the summer thus far.

Waiting to have the cash possibly? Money has just come in from the Alvaro to Madrid deal. They’ve spent a long time working out the deal, maybe intentionally to buy time. Mbuemo only wanting United meant they didn’t need to rush it - it will hopefully be done before the team fly out for the pre-season. What use would he have been if it was done a few months ago? A few extra days of training. I don’t think that’s enough for people (not you) to describe it as a ‘masterclass in how not to do transfers’.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,952 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

Will be interesting to see what happens next (assuming Mbeumo is coming). Have we definitely blown the budget on those 2 or will we still be active?

Or do we only buy now once we shift some the dead weight?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,237 ✭✭✭Iseedeadpixels

Thats the budget gone the rest will be dependent on sales except for maybe a cheap GK.

We've made 15m from clauses I've no idea how that helps PSR and cash flow wise.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,841 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Hard to see where the money from sales comes from. Surely Garnacho might have a soft spot for Villa. He can replace Rashford's name with his name on the jersey he already owns.

Isn't the Cunha deal spread over 3 years, so only 20mil spent this summer on that transfer? Or have i got that wrong

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,237 ✭✭✭Iseedeadpixels

I can't find the article but I think Whitwell said there's a cash flow issue.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,255 ✭✭✭The Rooster

Vast majority of deals are spread over 3-4 years in terms of payments (no impact on psr which is spread over contract term (up to 5 years) regardless of payment terms). I’m sure Mbemo will be too, as will any outgoings.

Sometimes when hitting a buyout clause, selling team will say its only effective if paid upfront, but thats not the norm.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,237 ✭✭✭Iseedeadpixels

We paid extra for Zirkzee so we could spread it out rather than a lump sum for his release clause.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,952 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

Well Cunha was spread over 3,we asked for 5 and were denied. Presumably we wanted a big spread for Mbeumo but that's probably one of the reasons it was such a hard negotiation.

Also I've mentioned it before but not sure if it was addressed. Why have we no training kit sponsor? Why have we no Carrington sponsor?

We've had both before and it would be a substantial bit of cash.

People will say that Ratcliffe isn't going to want to increase the value of an asset he only part owns but this doesn't increase the value of the club, it just improves the cash flow problems. Plus is it even Jim's decision? INEOS control the sporting decisions. This is a financial/sponsorship issue although the cash would presumably be used for improving the team.
