I suppose the good thing about the Mbeumo delay is we're saving on weekly wages😀

Time to move on to a different position and let Brentford sweat it out, I read yesterday united matched Brentfords valuation on the 2nd bid and they upped the price again.

Pains me to say it but if it's true that they keep hiking the ask, then we 100% need to walk away.

Yes Mbeumo is a clear first choice. Yes we've invested 6 weeks of faffing around and if we have to bail out now it'll be a disgrace.

But if Brentford are not just sticking to their initial price but adjusting upwards to see how far up the garden path they can lead us, feck em.

The player knows we wanted him and the only reason it doesn't happen is because Brentford are being sly.

Sh*t show to be moving on to plan B after wasting so much time but so be it.

Agree. Moving the goalposts all the time and suddenly deciding too add a few mil is discraceful. We should start bidding for other attacking players and perhaps Brentford might be more amenable.

    ALSO, from Whitwell:

-- United sent a scout to watch defender Eivind Helland, cost around €7million to €8m

-- John Victor is an option if Altay Bayindir leaves , so might not be affected by Onana situation

-- While there is some debate over the exact fee Brentford want, the reported £70m offer by Tottenham, later denied by the club, is seen by some as a yardstick.

-- Says United are being patient with Mbeumo deal and hoping Brentford ease their valuation

I'm not talking about letting him rot though. The club seem so tight on PSR that we just can't afford to take a loss on any player. They are almost better off on the books short term than taking the hit.

Mbeumo may start kicking up and ask for a transfer. That would get things in motion.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,171 ✭✭✭caviardreams

Not sure if he is the type for that. To be fair he's come out as very professional so fa i.e. Happy to stay but if he leaves, United is the only club for him. No threats of "I'll down tools if I don't get my move" etc. which is the kind of player we want: someone who acts professional and does their best regardless of club, manager, money, otherwise.

Bit like Antony in that regard so. Happy to stay at United but if he leaves, Real Betis is the only club for him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,858 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Didn't Antony go on strike at Ajax to force his move to United?

Thankfully our squad is in such good shape we can wait 6 weeks for a single player, otherwise that would be a daft thing to do.

No need to try and bridge the gap with a few cheaper options that have been well scouted. Just keep focusing and being relaxed on one target.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,270 ✭✭✭Iseedeadpixels

Sounds like we're more broke than previously reported.

If I'm Amorim I'd walk, we don't have the funds promised to him to fix the squad, he won't switch away from 3 atb and lord knows most of the players that need replacing won't adapt.

Next seasons shaping up to be a shocker.

Don't see another GK coming in so if a deal is reliant on Bayindir leaving. Helland looks interesting. 6'5 supposedly, versatile in defence, and played as a DM for their seconds plus underage games for Norway. Sounds similar to Heaven and has 18 months left on his contract.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,076 ✭✭✭✭billyhead

The likes of Hellend are for the future. He's not going to walk straight into the first team which is what we need to focus on. Expect another **** season again. If we don't sign anyone else we will finish around mid table.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,973 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

It's not an unreasonable position for United to tell Brentford that the offer is on the table and just walk on.

What is unreasonable is to do feck all else in the window whilst you wait for Brentford to back down.

I saw a clip earlier of McIlroy signing autographs yesterday and one of the adults asked him about United this season. Well you would swear someone let the air out of him. He let the biggest sigh and said top half finish. He feels it just like us :-(

They don't need to be cheap, just the right profile of player is required. We may actually start this season with Rasmus up top , Dalot at RWB and Bruno in CM. That's just awful from the club. I get that they need to move players on bit all 4 of those players are going to go around deadline day which means RA could be halfway to getting sacked by the 2nd international window with the run of fixtures we have. That's just unforgivable amd you'd have to question what Barada and Wilcox are doing if that happens.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,076 ✭✭✭✭billyhead

I'm sure Amorim is as frustrated as the rest of us. If and when he does get sacked he has the excuse that he wasn't backed in the summer that's presuming we don't sign anyone else.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,138 ✭✭✭IncognitoMan

We could do this a lot more effectively if it were 1 or 2 players but we have at least 5 players we know the clubs wants/needs off the books.

Antony, Sancho, Rashford, Garnacho, and to a lesser extent Malacia are all in the same or very similar boats.

That puts the pressure back on the club. We can't keep those 5 at the club in a season with reduced games and just let them collect wages without offering anything to the team or worse being disruptive.

They know this. Their agents know this. Other clubs know this. Our position is hugely weakened.

We simply have to find solutions, and some of those solutions will require us to take hits, unfortunately.

Lets all cheer getting 13.5 million instead of the original 6 million for a 50million player who was ours and is better than anyone we have in the position

I can't wait to see United line up with a CB pairing of HellandHeaven

But we can't take the hits, that's the entire point. Our finances are in such a bad way that we literally can't take a hit on any player leaving this season. Without it having significant impact on what we can get in. We would actually be better off with them on the books than taking a loss on any of them. Now, Rashford and Garnacho should both command decent fees, however they don't want to move anywhere that is willing to pay that kind of money. Garnacho wants the PL but the PL doesn't want him and Rashford is hoping to go on a cheap loan to help Barca, regardless of whether that screws utd or not. Then we have Antony looking to only join a club with LOI levels of spending. Sancho is off at festivals and wants a move but also wants a huge payput from Utd for the privilege.

We've both 1 player and seemingly struggling to find the resources for a 2nd. How in the world do you expect the club to take losses on 4 players in the same window.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

Take the hit in the sense that we might have to cover a % of wages (pay off) or sell a player for slightly less etc.. i.e maybe Garnacho gets sold for 30/40m, which we all agree is a modern day "bargain" but it gets money in. Maybe another goes on loan and we cover 25% of the wages but there is a deal in place for next summer so on.

We are selling underperforming players, from an underperforming team who are largely on wages higher than they are worth and who the manager does not want in his team so we aren't going to be getting top-level offers.

Rashford - we might have to send him on loan to Barca for a year with an obligation to buy down the line. If that is the best move available, it should be taken IMO. It removes his massive wages for this current season and will bring in a fee next summer.

Ideally, Barca pay 40m this summer. But as a "hit" even I would offer Barca 25/30m this summer or 40m next as an example. That's level of "hit" I'm talking about.

Garnacho - High level talent and if we were in a better position, we could be looking at a much higher fee but once again, maybe he has to go at 30/40m this summer. A "hit" on what his value should be. But if the player won't move outside the PL and we have no place for him in the team then it's in our best interest to find a solution inside the PL.

You get the idea. The club needs to find solutions.

Antony and Sancho are a lot more complicated, obviously. Maybe both go back on loan again. At least the burden of the wages can be lessened that way and it might help with PSR calculations for next summer to have offset some of that cost.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,858 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Think Garnacho may end up being as complicated as Antony. Wants to stay in the PL but who'll want him and who would he be willing to go to. I'd assume he'd want a top five club. Doubt City, Arsenal, or Liverpool would want him. Would he fit in at Newcastle?

Chelsea love spending money and even if he was a bench player for them they'll at least break even when selling him on, but will he want to be a squad player. If he was open to Villa could help in trying to buy Watkins. They buy Garnacho and we buy Watkins.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,270 ✭✭✭Iseedeadpixels

There's a link to Nicolas Jackson to us, could see some PSR fuckery with Garnacho if true.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,858 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Wouldn't know anything about Jackson but scored 14 PL goals in 35 games in his first season and 10 PL goals in 30 games his second. 9 of those goals came in his first 15 games of the season.

    He's Nunez in Blue!

Does all the right things except his finishing is poor.

I think he is wildly inconsistent and frustrating.

I know we need a striker but I think we'd be pulling our hair out by Xmas
