Meath kicking this away by trying to force 2 pointers and having heaps of wides. Can't do that in a semi final. Work the point and keep the scoreboard ticking

Hope it doesn't come back to bite them

Good year guys. Today was probably a bridge too far. Something to build on for next year.

That was rough. Even with some of the wild shots scored it wouldn't have made much difference, but there was an awful lot of waste throughout the match.

Still a good year, hopefully we can build on it next year.

Winning division 2 has to be a priority. Not just promotion, topping the league and winning the final. This team needs to be playing against division 1 teams so they know what's required when it matters. Brilliant wins over Dublin and Kerry count for nothing now unfortunately after a 20 point defeat

There's some buzz and excitement around this team so I really hope they get promoted next year and kick on.

BBryan MENTON was a huge loss having to go off injured...

Meath will a force again next year.. and they will be better too... they will learn so much from today's game and that should bring them on leaps and bounds

That was a hard watch. Just one of those days. We've had a ridiculous amount of injuries and I think Menton's yesterday was the one that helped open the floodgates. Absolutely nothing went our way. We were doing our best to pull Donegal back early in the second half, and they win their overhit kickout and get their first goal. At that point, you could see the heads drop and we were chasing shadows for the rest of the game.

But overall, an excellent season with a disappointing finish. If you told any Meath fan this time last year that we'd have beaten Dublin, Kerry and Galway in 12 months time, you'd have been laughed at. I feel the ceiling is high for this group of players. Hopefully more of the recent U20s can be integrated into the side along with maybe some additions to the backroom team. I think certain people all summer have been tripping over themselves to minimise our progress this season. Hopefully, we can improve again next season, work on promotion and take a few more scalps in the championship.

Onto the ladies next Saturday and hopefully another Croke Park trip in three weeks time.

Found that disappointing - I get it, beating Kerry Dublin Galway etc - but its different when its a knock out match. The biggest positive yesterday was selling out Croke Park, shows the huge interest there is.

I'd agree - the platform for the team has to be the League. Monaghan are the template there for me; they are in Division 1 year in year out which means championship time they are hard for anyone to beat.

If Meath could spend 3 or 4 years in Division 1, get used to playing Tyrone, Armagh, Kerry; get to their level. Thats when you can start thinking about All Ireland finals.

Meath will have Tyrone in division 2 with them next year and playing a team of that calibre will be great experience that early in the year. There are some huge fixtures in division 2 so hopefully all those fans at recent games turn up for the league games too which would be great

Agree that they have to stay in division 1 for a few years and solidify their place. I remember last time they came up and got relegated straight away without a whimper which was disappointing.

I still think next year will be 2 or 3 years too early for this Meath team to be really serious contenders. Once the age profile hits 25-26, that's when they should be delivering

One thing I didn't want yesterday was a tanking, it's harsh on the lads but Donegal are some machine. For me this feels different to 07 and 09 I think the semi finals then were a peak whereas this team has the potential to kick on. Ultimately where Donegal are now is where you need to be to win the big one so I hope the squad see that. The maddest thing for me yesterday was seeing Murphy go off on 45 minutes, and it would've been earlier if play stopped, which signalled to me that McGuinness thought they were out the gap. But they just didn't let up at all, they are relentless.

It has been a good year of progress, it's a real pity the Leinster title didn't rubberstamp that, but hopefully some consistency now will see the team kick on and improve further.

Bad end to a great year. If someone told me in January we'd play Dublin, Kerry, Galway and Donegal n we'd win 3 of them I'd consider them a head case.

Promotion to division one as said above must be the number one priority next year.

I was thinking the exact same. When someone jumps on to post that drivel you know your team are well and truly back. And that drivel from a Mayo man no less. They'd know about filth, but not the titles.

It was a hard day but I have seen worse and great success afterwards. It is a team of 22 to 24 year olds missing 6 players and supplemented by Keoghan and Menton. They do need to get out of Division 2 this year, and with the experience of this year they will grow.

Please don't let him really be from Mayo. We in Mayo are in a bad enough state already. Don't need gobshltes like that making a bigger spectacle of the county.

He must be still having nightmares about the 1996 final. 😲

Tough day, nothing really went right for us. Few bad misses and decision making in the first 10-15 mins,we could of been 5 or 6 points up with calmer heads. Then when Menton went off we hardly won another kickout in the first half. Second half after the first goal the heads just dropped and Donegal were clinical, could of been any score.

Just need to build on this next year, with the 5 or 6 injured lads back and a couple lads travelling and hopefully a few from the under20 we should have a strong panel next year.

Been a good year overall, and good to see a buzz around the team again.
