João Almeida the latest to get the eagle eye Velogames curse. He follows a long list of GC contenders who didn't make the finish and in most instances the end of week 2.

Temperatures in France have started dropping slight and there is some light rain forecast for the route today, so the roads might be a bit greasy after the dry spell.

As well as the big French names, I wonder if Ewen Costiou will try for the break as he's 5th in the KoM.

However, I think Quinn Simmons is going to go for an early one. The French crowd dont like him ( plenty of booing for him on the Mur last Friday) and he looks like the kind of guy that would get motivation from that.

Don't see why Ben can't get away today if he fancies it. He shouldn't be seen as a threat. While not the best climber why not have a tilt at the KOM if he is in form.

Wasn't that late (not that I'm still bitter about yesterdays vets race).

I think there'll be an early breakaway today with plenty of French in it.

I think the GC teams will switch off today. Something might happen late on but if there's nobody with GC ambitions in the break it'll be well clear by then.

I think one of those in the break will be Aurelian Paret-Peintre and the stage looks perfect for him to make it a great Bastille day for the home fans.

there’ll be two races. A decent sized break hoovering up mountain points and then Visma trying to put Pog’s helpers under pressure

In the end Pog out sprints Jonas for the stage win

George Zimmerman is a DNS for today. I'm actually relieved to read that because he was absolutely in bits after his crash yesterday. I haven't seen so much road rash on a long time. It would have been torture for him to try to continue in the race.

Tour de France related article yesterday from Paul Kimmage regarding a staff member of Ineos linked with possible doping from the Froome days still being in the team bus for this tour - https://www.independent.ie/sport/other-sports/cycling/paul-kimmage-revealing-the-links-between-the-team-sky-masseur-and-a-convicted-doping-doctor-at-the-tour-de-france/a1278964315.html

I don't see it. Rest day tomorrow followed by a lot of tough stages. GC teams are likely to take it easy I think. There might even be an agreement between them.

You are not going to make any major time today but you can over the next week.

What channel and what time can you watch decent highlights of the days racing.

Todays stage would have made great viewing yesterday !!

    ITV4 do a very good highlights package - 7 o'clock most days.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,076 ✭✭✭✭odyssey06

ITV4 have highlights at 7pm of that day's stage, repeated next day at about 11am. 1 hour programme.

TG4 have highlights at 9pm of that day's stage, repeated next day at about lunchtime. 30 minute programme.

Visma were trying to make it hard for Pogacar on far easier stages. So I would be surprised if they didn't try something to increase the stress/fatigue of Pogacar.

rest day tomorrow means they’ll go extra hard today. Mightn’t work but Visma are 100% going to try something today

I don't see how they make it all that hard for Pog without making it the same level of hard for Vingo. All Pog has to do is sit on the wheel.

Only 29 in the break. Ben is there.

But that's what they do - have faith that your man is better/more fatigue resistant and then increase the effort so that your rival's level falls below yours.

Hopefully the peloton will sit up and let this break build a bigger lead. Peloton wasn't giving them much leeway earlier. If Healy has good legs and GC folks in peloton take it easy for most of the day then there is an outside chance he can ride into yellow.

What's the chances of Healy and co. holding off Pog and co. from here?

73 km to go, gap 3'40''

Everyone leaving UAE to do the chasing and they're starting to struggle, looking good for Ben here to take yellow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,124 ✭✭✭Raoul Duke

Normally I'd say no chance, as UAE have only used 2 riders up front. But they don't have Sivakov and Almeida. They probably don't want to use Yates yet, so that leaves Soler and Narvaez. If Wellens and Politt can last another 20km, then Pogacar for the win.

I'm interested in what Visma will do when UAE run out of energy.

If both teams lay off Ben for yellow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,165 ✭✭✭✭retalivity

If they are not going to attack ot cant drop Pog, could see visma ride to keep pog in yellow (just) from healy, extra tv work, etc. Marginal gains!

The Arkea rider has dropped out of the break, so the team might start riding to bring the gap down to Ben and keep French rider Vauquelin on the podium for Bastille day.

Steve Bauer obsessed with Healy, there are better climbers in the breakaway

Is it 40 years since a French rider won the tour?

What sort of a random attack was that from Campenaerts 🤔

    Yep.

It'll be a few more years before they get one, but Paul Seixas is coming along and looks the best prospect since Pinot. But he's only 18 and because Pogacar/Vingegaard.

Edit: This was a reply to "Is it 40 years since a French rider won the tour?"
