Ben reacted better to the danger, Eddie jumped way too hard on the brakes causing the bike to buck him off hard. Nice bit of bike handling from Ben actually as he was nearer to the crash than Eddie at the time.

    Lil breakaway here.

Ben is such a stereotype multidisciplinary rider. He is so similar in skills and style to the recent top riders who have done CX or MTB.

Almeida out. Could be huge in the fortnight to come

There’s a second peloton few mins behind the peleton.. what happened there? How were they dropped?

Its all sunshine, sunflowers, cornfields, and crosswinds today. Shame that Groves' two lead out riders shagged off from km0 - he won't be winning. About to hit this final 16km crosswind section, so we might finally get real action !!

    Cross winds.

Gap was down to 30 seconds but back up to 1.23. MVDP might just pull this off. Incredible if they do.

Twice Merlier has beaten Milan heads up. What a stage. Can only imagine the deflation MVDP must get. One of the latest catches I can remember.

Isn't it 10km per minute for a breakaway according to Kelly. It's pretty accurate and VdP was just about holding it for ages.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,866 ✭✭✭EagererBeaver

A minute every 10km for a lone rider is what they said today. Bit more with two of them. A few uphills towards the finish didn't help him either.

I'm in awe of MVDP more than ever in this TdF. Got his stage win and into yellow. Survived a brutal stage with the GC lads and was in contention for another one. Did a really good time trial to try and stay in yellow. Twice in the breakaway including a momentous effort today.

you’ve got to admire him. I was always in the Team Wout camp, but… I wonder what’s been going through Wout’s head the last few years

Wout and MVDP are so close in talent it’s unbelievable. But MVDP is 0.001% ahead of Wout.

It’s like Vanderaarden or Argentine coming up against Kelly. Or MVDPs uncle actually. Phenomenal riders, but consistently finishing 2nd to an all time great.

Tomorrow’s stage looks almost cruel. Any rider feeing it will be out the back after 7km.

Ben could be in with a decent shout…if Pog doesn't want to pull the piss again.

It's Bastille day as well…an Alaphillipe win would be great

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,196 ✭✭✭✭dahat

You’d miss Thomas De Gendt for stages like this

Ben is a good shout but not sure he will be left away this time.

    M. Storer would be my call but Alaphillipe conplicates that.

I imagine every well known French name will be in the break tomorrow. Surely Loulou, Martin and Barguil are all gonna try be there.

A good summation, though if Eddie's back wheel had continued to swing round he'd have fallen way more softly. Instead it grabbed the surface and threw him the other way. A fine line but the fear definitely kicked in there.

Braked too hard at a bend myself once but luckily the road was wet so wheel continued round and I just slid off into the ditch.
