Paul Faloon should not be refereeing at this level, he is consistently inconsistent. Amazing that in a 20 point beating his poor performance still stood out.

Writing was on wall for Meath today when 5 points behind at half time and only managed to score 6 times from 16 shots and that was with wind advantage. They looked like a team that let the occasion get them and weren't ready for the Donegal train coming down the tracks.

Donegal as they did against Monaghan the last day were outstanding 2nd half, fitness levels off the charts they had a shooting efficiency of 80% in that 2nd half.

On separate note the media have hyped it up as the best championhsip in years. More high scoring yes but even the quarter finals and both semi-finals did not live up to the hype for neutrals watching games and expecting to see high quality competitve contests in the business end of the championship.

That bench today... McFadden/Ferry, O'Boile, McConaigle, McBrearty, even McGee...Jamie Brennan and Niall O'Donnell too, all experienced players and all offer a lot at IC level. It's a serious strength.

They were ruthless today, and look good, a serious outfit.

One word of warning though, we've seen teams win big in semi finals today and lose out in the finals, I'd trust they won't lost their heads during the next fortnight but today won't necessarily help them.

The two best teams in the country in the final anyway, and an interest ion clash of styles. Kerry will need to be extremely precise if they concentrate on kicking the ball to their forwards because this Donegal can kill them on counter attacks of they are loose woth their passing.

For me it has by far been the best championship that I have ever experienced. Several exciting games and many surprises. In fairness, it's not the medias issue if Meath had a stinker today, and were much poorer than Donegal. And Tyrone couldn't live with the genius of D Clifford yesterday.

I was at the game today, and I didn't see much wrong. Nothing obvious from watching it live there anyway. Of course, the TV cameras pick up more. What did he do wrong. He is a fit ref anyway - sprinting up and down the pitch.

For me it wouldn't be up there with some of the pre qualifier championships. Like 1991, apart from Meath v Dublin. The Ros/Meath semi, Down v Donegal Ulster Final and the All Ireland were very good.

1994 was a good year. Derry v Down a classic. Very good provincial finals, Leitrim beating Mayo was great but probably the lowest quality.

1997 had great games across the provinces, especially Meath v Kildare trilogy and Meath v Offaly Leinster final.

2005 was way ahead of this year. Dublin v Laois Leinster Final, Dublin/Tyrone games, Tyrone v Armagh 3 games. Brilliant Kerry v Tyrone Final.

Just off the top of my head.

Literally said the same thing to my son while watching. GAA refereeing is a political skill at this stage, apologies to Paul as it's completely out of his control.

Yep, the 2005 AI semi-final between Tyrone & Armagh was one of the best matches I've ever seen. Conor Gormley remarked recently that it was one of the most intense games he ever played in, saying that every move mattered.

The group stage has masked this years championship as being amazing. In fairness the games were good and the group stages helped the new rules. Preliminary and QFs and semis have been dire bar galways two games. Media are hyping it up based on the rules , semis last year much better games and Galway Dublin. I like the new rules but Gaelic football is far from back imo. It has a bit to go.

I've watched more games this year than ever.

I tuned in for Monaghan v Donegal. Not a hope would I do that in the past.

I'd imagine attendances and TV audiences are way up.

The Leinster championship is actually competitive now.

It’s been a good championship, it’s just a pity that the quarter finals onwards with the exception of Galway - Meath, have not been very exciting down the home stretch. But on a positive, the final looks like it’ll be some game and the two best teams this year have rightly made the final.

Luck of the draw. The QF's and SF's were all fairly obvious results bar the Kerry v Armagh one. The group stages were more matched up.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

I feel sorry for you if this is the best championship you have ever experienced.

They can never match the best years while they have league stages and lots of the games gated behind pay per view, breaking up the flow of a team going on a run of wins.

The best championships are built around momentum and narratives, following a team through knockout games that always matter with the tension and excitement rising game by game until the very end.

Two pointers are no substitute for a real championship run.

Yeah I remember great games in 2005... them Tyrone Armagh games were serious serious affairs... in my time watching GAA there are 2 games that stand out for me in terms of intensity and tension but also being fantastic games to watch.. one was 2005 Armagh Tyrone semifinal unbelievable tension.. and the 2nd was 2009 all-ire hurling Final between Tipp and KK... that was an intense affair.. on the pitch and in the stands..

Last year had more exciting and competitive games in the business end of the championship which should not be the case given HQ went out of their way to improve things. New rules has allowed the likes of D Clifford run riot. Donegal scored 3-26 and could have scored a lot more as had 42 shots on goal. Kerry with what they missed could easily have matched Donegal's score yesterday. Most Neutrals I'm sure for a good contest wants to see a good balance between defence and attack in games.

Knockout competition is never coming back nor should it. To get knocked out after one game after all the preparation and commitment players make would not be accepted. Other sports do not do that.

If you want to go back to a game that stifles and restricts players like DC and rewards mass defence you are in the minority. Clifford didn't run riot. He scored 1-9 which is impressive but no more than that. Joe OConnor rivalled him for MOTM and he didn't run riot.

For some reason teams are running riot in the 3rd quarter.

All of those were 20 years and plus ago. It was open enough back then, without the blanket defense. The defensive structures were brought in then which made football stale for several years, and I think the general media commentary now is that the new rules have hugely improved the quality of the games as an entertainment spectacle.

Meath showed today they are not the real deal and are no better than a Roscommon or Louth.

A Roscommon or Louth could go on the run they did next year.

No need to feel sorry for me. I've had a great year. Have seen more closer games this year than any other year. Watched some of them on the GAA+. Some on RTE/TG4 etc. And have been to more games this year than any other games. The 2 semi finals were obviously one-sided, but I don't go home from Croke Park crying. I take from it that I've witnessed quality players on show like Clifford, Murphy etc. Even if a game is one-sided, I still enjoy watching the skills on show, and to see what special moments they will conjour in a game.

You mention about following teams through knock-out. That's fine if you are from Kerry or Dublin etc. who (up until recently in Dublin's case) progress consistently to the latter stages of championship. But this year, we have had other teams like Meath and Louth breaking through. If the new rules can bring more teams into the reckoning of even getting to quarters or semis, then it is a good thing for me.

The new rules will mean higher score averages. Same thing happened in basketball when they updated rules and brought in the 3 pointer. If you want to see how the game of football will look like in the future, look at basketball.

Football will become a very simple game. Win 50% of ball in midfield and then it's all down to your efficiency in front of goal as you should be getting a shot off with every possession.

Points per shot will become THE most important stat for teams once they achieve 50% of kickouts.

A team losing possession without getting a shot away will become a cardinal sin.

I also expect 'iso's' to become a part of football. This is all the team mates of the attacker in possession move well out of the way of the player drawing the defenders with them leaving the attacker in a one v one with the defender.

When they begin the championship in 2026 they'll be referred to as last year's surprise package.

Meath have a tonne of work and improvement to do if their to become more than the 2025 surprise team.

mate at the game thinks Murphy went off with a pulled hammy today.

History shows the surprise packets always struggle the year after when making a semi final. Not sure meath football is back

Came off pretty soon after his final point where he had a weird stumble reaching for it.

If it is with MM he never pulled up and walked off. He'll sort a grade 1 tear in a week.

The rest will do him no harm.

An injured Murphy would further shorten the odds on Kerry
