Not writing off meath but I'm finding it hard to see how people are saying kerry would be favourites to beat donegal in a final.

Donegal have exceptional pace and power, scoring forwards plus Michael Murphy, who can do it all. Run, catch score, create. Saying that, i would be up for kerry!

Part of the unknown with Donegal is that they have had a pretty handy run to the final. Kerry knocked out the champions with a second half performance that was as good as any over the past few years

Donegal are good but rely too much on a hard running game with occasional long balls to Murphy whereas Kerry can vary it more. Their superior kick passing conserves energy for the 3rd quarter onslaught that we have seen a few times now.

It would be better for Donegal if they had the option to bring Murphy on for the second half but it seems they haven't enough quality forwards without him.

You’re holding up Kerry beating Armagh when Donegal has also done that yet are unknown?

Physically, and this is strange to say about a northern team, but Kerry backs v Tyrone forwards was men v boys yesterday. Only Mattie Donnelly could compete with his immediate marker, the likes of the Canavan lads, McCurry, O'Donnell, McIlhone etc are just too light. Talented, skillful players all, but you need a balance in any team and strange to say Kerry out muscled them all over the field.

I've admired what Tyrone have done in the development grades recently, but are they producing players who are clones of each other, are they all the same player (nippy, quick, skillful) and where is the 'dogs' going to come from? Armagh didn't have the 15 most skilful players last year, but they had a few mixed in with a few hardy bucks who could play a bit. Kerry the same, the likes of Graham O'Sullivan, Sean O'Brien and Michael Burns will not get anyone excited or off their seats, but you need workhorse to win the ball and to give and take in the trenches. When fan was being hit yesterday, all those nippy lads melted and Kerry should have won by more.

Let's see how today goes, but if it's Donegal in 2 weeks they will match up better physically against Kerry and provide a sterner challenge.

Kerry battered them was my point. Donegal vs Armagh could have went either way

I would definitely give Donegal a shout against Kerry but they have a potentially difficult game today against Meath who seemed to have really handled well with the rule changes .I know Meath are down a few lads which may weaker their options but it's not impossible they could win today .

The Armagh midfield and backs were annihilated by Kerry a fortnight ago. I just can't see past Kerry myself

Definitely agree on Tyrone forwards being to light. Tyrone shut out oshea and p Clifford very well I taught. Both were anonymous by in large. Donegal will give kerry a much better game if they overcome today. physically they will match up much better.

I never rated the armagh midfield as being dominate in any way. Donegal have a much stylish midfield. Tyrone actually done ok yesterday in the middle. Up front they were abject.

Kerry beat Tyrone, who beat Donegal, who beat Louth, who beat Meath, who beat Dublin, who beat Galway, who beat Mayo. Conversely, Kerry lost to Meath, who lost to Louth, who lost to Donegal, who lost to Tyrone, who lost to Mayo, who lost to Cavan.

Its mad how pre-Armagh game, all the talk was about Kerry's annual easy run and how it was 'unfair'. Now all of a sudden they've had a tougher run than Donegal, who have played more championship games than anyone this year, had a continous string of games vs. Division One teams, the shortest turnaround between prelim and QF, and who arguably had a tougher QF vs Monaghan than Kerry had the last two days. Maybe Armagh were punch-drunk after their exploits, and its a year or two too soon for Tyrone.

Have Donegal anyone capable of restricting DC?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,429 ✭✭✭C__MC

no but they will cut off space much better than Tyrone did yesterday. Mc Cole will pick him up.

Why are Kerry just so damn unlikeable...the arrogance seems to be setting in already.

I hope Donegal get through today and humbly put Kerry in their place.

Donegal have a brillant young, fit squad with heaps of talent all over the pitch.

We are not just reliant on Murphy, like we were in the past.

    C'Mon Donegal.

Ya we are arrogant, cocky and love and expect our footballers to do well and win it every year that's just who we are, it's our coulture our heritage and our identity.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,144 ✭✭✭orangerhyme

Most people from other counties have a soft spot for Kerry. They're probably the most loved county in Ireland.

It's not arrogance but Kerry people's entire identity and culture is wrapped up in their football team so they've huge expectation every year to win and to win stylishly.

I don't think it's arrogance or cockiness. We're extremely critical also.

It's more huge expectation to win with style.

Kerry put in an excellent period in the game against Armagh and won well. Donegal ended up a point ahead after extra time against Armagh, they were pretty comparable on the day.

You play what is before you. Kerry adapted to Defencive tactics

Donegal were marginally better that day , threw away in Normal time. Croke Park will suit donegal better than clones like kerry.

I disagree. I think they are a very likable bunch. I'm not from Kerry, but I was in amongst a lot of Kerry fans yesterday. And they were so down to earth. Getting riled up in the match, but nothing nasty. Having conversations with anyone around about the match. Unlike some Tyrone fans in the vicinity who were trying to cause arguments with anyone who would listen.

I was surrounded by plenty of arrogant Donegal fans in Roscommon at the Mayo match. Mocking players when they were genuinely down injured (and had to be subbed). And again, starting arguments whenever possible. Is it an Ulster thing - trying to start fights at matches. It's like ye are very tightly wound, and need to release some underlying tension.

I put a bet on Donegal many months ago to win the All-Ireland. There's over €100 in it for me. But I'll still be shouting for Kerry in the final (if it's against Donegal). If Donegal do win, then the money is a consolation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,644 ✭✭✭kerryjack

I am hoping Donegal will win this and win it well and set up for a good final, Meath are good but I am thinking they are going as far as they will go. Of course you would be foolish to rule out this young Meath team who have nothing to loose.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,345 ✭✭✭Seadin

I still fancy Kerry to win. They are a fine team and coming good at the right time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,199 ✭✭✭FullBack Jam

I am looking for seated ticket for todays match - Meath Donegal. Last minute decision to head across to Croke Park.

Nothing available on Ticketmaster. Long shot I know.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,567 ✭✭✭dunnerc

Yes indeed, but poster I replied to mentioned Kerry play stylish football and I mentioned they didn't in the 2014 final, so it's not always stylish!

    Meath 0-17
