Maybe they'll have a subscriber only forum like they used to?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,504 ✭✭✭JackieChang

So a circlejerk basically. It would be like a bunch of neckbeards sitting in the pub reminiscing about old times with a load of in-jokes that nobody would understand.

I think they should put bargain alerts in the paid subscription. It's already blocked for people who don't have an account.

I’ve been a member since 2004. I will easily hand over 50 euro to chip in. Even if it’s just to keep it going a little longer

The Liveline threads are an example of modding gone mad IMO.

One day all talk of Joe speak is banned like "so to speak" then for two days before he retired it was fine to slag Joes weight and speach.

Then comes PBH and people banned calling him posh and posting stuff he said or was involved in.

The place went too left wing to go along with MSM that they forgot that unlike MSM they don't get Government money.

Then the Liveline thread was closed and a new opened where there was to be no mention of Joe who ran the show for many years.

Where exactly do you draw the line on debate on genocide though? Cause what I'm citing veered into conspiracy theories. Eg should we also be debating the Holocaust if it crops up?

You are looking for mods to take sides. Debate or ignore. It used to be just trolling and abuse that mods rolled on and now it's people moaning that someone doesn't agree with them so they want them banned. Silly little things like "bad words" shouldn't be an issue on an adult conversation. It's also easy to spot a troll.

The soccer forum was atrocious prior to vanilla platform. Flame wars were a daily occurrence. Now it's CA which was an offshoot of AH which has that exact issue. Over zealous modding in fact feeds the trolls. Clearly biased.

AH is a mere shadow of itself. It used to be fun. You went there for silly stuff. For a laugh. And anything could be posted knowing full well it was mostly nonsense. It was fast moving. You could miss a thread in a few minutes from the landing page. No laughs allowed now on boards.

Vanilla killed the user base and the modding just compounded the loss. I would suggest mods names should not be the same as their regular posting accounts. Separate accounts so it's ultra clear when they have engaged and clear when their personal bias is engaged in their modding.

Glad to see the subscription options up. Multiple options to suit everyone. Personally will opt for the yearly option. But for those more fearful the half yearly @28 is a decent option.

Remember if you are self employed there is bound to be a forum applicable to your business. That means it's TAX DEDUCTIBLE.

Half yearly 28 euro is 13 euro net about 2 pints

If anyone wants to deny the Holocaust, they're an asshole. But they should be free to say it if they wish. And I should be free to call them an asshole in return.

It's not against the law to be a dick.

I always find it hilarious when someone posting on an internet forum gives out about neckbeards.

I might get my first ever ban /warning for this but any chance you'd stop being such a **** please (the please surely staves off the "don't be a dick" rule, right?)

An excellent example of bonkers modding alright- and then giving posters a few days to slag Joe before he left- that was just beyond farce .

Just shows how ridiculous rules thought up by and implemented by incompetent moderation has helped drain the site of posters - but criticise the rules and it was like “like it or lump it”- many lumped it.

Why is this even a place to complain about not liking Boards.ie… while posting on Boards.ie 🤯

I can understand people posting about WHY they subscribe… but posting why you’re not going to support boards.ie with thousands of posts to your ‘name’ is a bit bewildering. 🤷‍♂️

Leave them off it’s good for traffic numbers. Ironically all the complaining might save boards.

Advertisers don’t care about the content they just care about views and clicks.

For those posters worried that the whole place is going to fall down around us given some very stupid rules which encourages over enthusiastic modding has thankfully been disposed of- the list below still covers a multitude - the word “abusive” along with “otherwise objectionable” are included- that should cover the vast majority of posts that most decent users just don’t want to see on this site; including holocaust denials or indeed accusations of false photo shoots of Gaza deaths, or obvious “Russian bot” posts which has been mentioned.
The relaxation of idiot rules are welcomed but there’s still plenty of checks and balances to stop the site becoming Twitter

Just to reiterate something that was mentioned earlier. It would be good if we could use carrier billing for example via 3 Mobile. I would happily pay a bit more to be able to use phone credit.

We have our own legacy private forum within boards already (invite only sorry). It helps us to avoid the stench of the peasants from general pop and buy and sell watches safely.

I've tried something like that before and it didn't work😁, not that I was surprised.

    Hello.

I was the poster formerly known as Bobson Dugnutt. I was site banned a few months back and all of my posts were deleted, which does go to show it’s technically possible I suppose.

Any chance you could reinstate my account? My offer to be a radio forum mod still stands as well. I’ll throw in 1k as well as a token of goodwill.

    Bob

€1k per year or a measly once off ?*

Is your offer dependent on becoming a radio forum mod… that’s a passionate forum, with plenty of interest.

*May not be an official boards.ie negotiator
