Now you see,, and you are bang on..

We do not log in to boards to find out where bread is a penny cheaper in the shops.

We log in to have our say,, we have things to say, we log in to see what others have to say.

And for the last 7 years or so, the woke Mods here on Boards have shut us up.

So now we go elsewhere, and this once great site is about to fall.

Contributed 6 months there now too - the ads disappeared immediately. 👍️

Worth noting that this thread doesn't actually appear on the front page and with the link to the subscriber payment taking up the announcement box, it's actually not easy to find.

Might be worth pinning this thread to the front page of the website?

Paid up for the year - I reckon I've saved Hundreds from Now TV codes in BA alone.

I spend alot of time reading Sports in particular - CA don't think I've ever posted there.

There really isn't anywhere quite like Boards, reddit is awful to browse and contains lots of banned users from here, which is enough to stay away from the place as far as I'm concerned. Their idea of 'discussion' is faraway from mine.

A few other places have more centralised forums but no where has the sheer range of Boards and it has survived for years - despite the 'Boards is dead' posts that I seem to have read alot of over the past 5 years.

Given the sheeer number of hours I spend on Boards each week, 50 quid for a year is actually pittance in reality if you actually broke it down.

right, I've signed up for 6 months. I'd hate to see Boards go under, I've been here for 23 years. Yeah I'd get a lot of time back, but I'd only waste it somewhere else.

I was going to sign up for the year but this thread has convinced me the site owners don't have a clue, so I'm not terribly confident we'll still be here in 2026.

Subscribed there for 6 months & received email receipt instantly. Will continue to subscribe as long as the site remains live, its my go to place online & would hate to see it go. Work Productivity may improve if that happened but my satisfaction levels whilst sat at my desk would not!!

Paid the €50 but I don't see it as paying for the next 12 months, more the past 17 years.

Maybe a count of subs could be shown/posted regularly somewhere once it gets beyond the 500 mark? People like to hit targets.

    Pics or gtfo :)

Done - €50/annual sub complete. As josip said above, I see it as much as recognising the value I've gotten from this site in the last 24 years as a vote/contribution for its future.

I used my Boards email as the contact on the Stripe page but if any issues, will reach out.

Subscribed for 6 month and received email receipt straigth away. As posted above I will continue to subscribe. I enjoy the threads I post in and also those BA posts are effectively paying for the sub 😁

A count of memberships paid would be good so we know when Boards is safe.

No disrespect, but if you only have a hammer, everything looks like a nail. Devs do dev, but this isn't a dev problem. It's about finding a hosted service that can support Boards WITHOUT needing devs tinkering around under the hood.

Are you comfortable with the ethics of this? And the legalities, given GDPR and all that?

Do you think it will go down well with potential government clients to hear that your LLM is based on data that wasn't given for that purpose?

Sorry. Boards.ie claim not to part of Distilled but work out of the offices of Distilled?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 14,811 ✭✭✭✭Igotadose

Saved way more than 50 euro in my 10+ years here. Joined while we lived in the USA to get some idea what we were getting into moving to Ireland. Boards didn't scare us off😄 . The knowledge gained over the years is worth thousands of euros.

Hopefully we keep it going through our subscriptions.

Its from the generated pdf attached to Stripe receipt email. Perhaps address needs updated?

    I know nothing about Distilled...

More like hedging our bets. The OP doesn’t inspire confidence it’ll make the 12 months.

Then again not all of us are Olympic gold medalists.

they probably need the 100k to renew contracts, site won’t last a month

€50 paid, and very happy to do so. Boards.ie is something I have used daily for 25 years and I'd like it to be there for at least 25 more.

Now, back to Bob in the studio who has a word for anyone who has not yet signed up.

Will there be a commitment to fix technical issues such as issues people have with post formatting on mobile?

BecauseBecause from the sounds of it, there doesn't sound like there will be any bug fixing done. You will instead just roll back to the earliest version of the software.

YouYou can see the post-formatting bug in the paragraph above.

By the wayBy the way, I'm sorry to hear about the website's financial difficulties. I've been a lurker here for a while. And have only just signed up to wish you the best

Done a month - only in so far as I want to know how this works out before committing to pay someone's exit fee

I've definitely won cash and prizes worth more than €50 every year from the comps thread, so will happily subscribe for a full year if this works out but not just yet…

Went with quarterly… just to show some confidence 😉

    Processed through stripe.

When I joined first I went with first initial then surname. An ex employer back when I worked in “the media” texted me asking to remove what I wrote. That was the end of that 🤣

Here is the announcement from when boards was taken over by the new owners. Its.....interesting. Much of the same problems were known about up front:

ooh - just got a paid member added… presumably because of the email the receipt went to being the same as the account.

Rich Text Editor. To edit a paragraph's style, hit tab to get to the paragraph menu. From there you will be able to pick one style. Nothing defaults to paragraph. An inline formatting menu will show up when you select text. Hit tab to get into that menu. Some elements, such as rich link embeds, images, loading indicators, and error messages may get inserted into the editor. You may navigate to these using the arrow keys inside of the editor and delete them with the delete or backspace key.
