There's a conspiracy theory forum if you're pushing conspiracy theories... By your logic, all conspiracy theories are perfectly fine for the CA forum. That's pretty much throwing any possibility of quality discussions out the window.

Boards provide a public service to many.

The government sponsors many less worthy endeavours, so could perhaps you get some funding from the TV licence fee as an example.

If people want that, they can get it elsewhere.

If they want community notes style there is Twitter.

Boards as a discussion platform for current affairs\politics etc, its selling point in Ireland should be that it is a moderated space.

“I’d rather see people like that posting freely and have some sort of community notes handle it than have moderation say what I can and can’t read on the internet.”

It’s not a perfect approach to the challenges facing discussion forums but I agree in the sense that, as someone who was on the receiving end of complete paranoid loopheads back in the day, who groundlessly accused me of x,y and z, I’d much prefer this approach - obvious trolls are obvious - just walk on by and ignore - it’s not difficult. Getting “outraged” about it is more a reflection on the posters themselves- they need to calm down - the rules have changed - adapt and ignore

What's the difference between ad free (Quarterly, Annual or Half-Year options) and no-ads (monthly)? Or is this just sloppy copy?

The monthly option saying access to all forums - is that a suggestion that those who don't pay won't get access everywhere?

Also, bit disingenuous sticking a "Most Popular" tag on the annual option when it's just gone live and nobody would have subbed yet..

What exactly is your problem with it being posted? It's a discussion website, not a wiki and not a source of factual information. This is the problem with posters who think that lies, conspiracy theories, or simply different point of views shouldn't be allowed at all. Let them be posted and let the points get demolished. If you cannot stand reading this stuff, go hang out on Wikis.

You are picking an easily-verifiable topic to try and make your point, but most topics aren't so clear cut. You cannot expect you or the mods to be arbiters of truth and ban or delete everything else. By expecting it in very specific cases, you are arguing for it to be like that everywhere, and obviously you will always think that whatever you believe in is 100% fact and everything else should be banned or deleted.

Seriously, wikis exist. You can go edit them and find a community.

"Access to all forums"?!? Please confirm that private fora will remain private, irrespective of subscriptions.

Not really. If you search for 'malting' for example, it matches

malt, male, malted, alt, mast, Malta

I initially said I wouldn't but I subscribed as well.

    Best of luck.

It's almost as if those involved really don't know the first thing about running a discussion board - making titles relevant!

a certain mod in the business and finance forum pmd me and gave me a warning saying “pay attention to the rules and do no post rubbish on this site”

A users card was skimmed by someone twice and he thought it was a particular website he used. I asked him to post the website so I can check the usual Whois, certs up to date and other areas to see if it was legitimate site.

what kind of a response is that from a mod?

I explained this to the mod and he said that’s only speculation, warning stands.

I am not disagreeing with you where things belong, but at some point in the past Harvey Weinstein and Jimmy saville accusations would have been placed in the CT forum too, it’s generally not good to just have a moderator filter on your behalf, do you not believe you should be responsible for how you handle such posts, like use the block button, or have some sort of function which could fact check the post?

It’s a brave move Cotton, let’s see how it works out.

For posterity: you aren’t the problem. The gimps who give you a hard time are you. Occasionally I’ve been one of those gimps. Thanks for all the hard work. It’s a shame to see it wasted.

Grand, so 911 conspiracy theories should be perfectly fine to post by this logic. Incredibly unlikely isn't an issue.

Just subbed for 6 months. Wish you the best of the luck. Despite the serial moderation moaners, this is something that is different from the rest of the internet. Actually insightful, well informed discussion for the most part. The polar opposite of X, Facebook et al.

Oh also - the need is 2000 subscribers per month but you only give the shiny supporters badge to people who pay longer. Would it not make sense to have it for everyone who helps pay?

Paying annually would have been the most popular option when subscriptions were available previously.

    Add quotes.

I honestly find the search to be great. You can paste in thread titles on the right to search only like that, or by user etc.

Maybe this is a stupid question. The email address I use for my Revolut account is not the one I used to register on boards. So will they know it’s me who has subscribed?

Allowing all anecdotes is as bad as when they decided to ban all anecdotes.

Just deal with the Walter mitty types and what I am assuming is a lad on school holidays trying to entertain himself last night.

lads, who’s running this forum? The alert that’s on every page just says that the subscription service is live without explaining WHY it’s so important - the place will be closed unless more people chip in.

The alert really should link to the previous announcement and then link to the subscription link.

recent changes to Google’s algorithm have had a dramatic impact, cutting our traffic in half almost overnight

Was it stated what these changes were that cut the traffic in half? I would have assumed that the majority of Boards traffic comes from established returning users, rather than from Google search results. So I wouldn’t have expected an algorithm change to have such a major effect.
