Stats wise Amad was way better at RWB than R10 last year.

    Obsession, not sure.

Getting business done early does demonstrate some positive things though, for example that the transfer plans were well organised and planned out properly in advance, that ground work had been completed and not left late, that the targets identified to improve the squad have the most possible time to integrate, both on the pitch and off in terms of getting families relocated, schools sorted etc and settled into areas. It also shows an intent on the part of the club who gets business done early and an ability to move efficiently through a plan. That kind of thing.

Mbeumo as the target, after signing Cunha, suggests Bruno and Zirkzee do not fit into the first choice profile of the no 10's/inside forwards United/Amorim want to play in that half space.

Bruno was very good as a 10 for United in the past but in a different role, a more central player rather than a player with the ability to dribble and drive into space, or cross or shoot from the half space on the right side.

And the best organised plans can go out the window when you hit a massive roadblock in nobody wanting to buy the players you need moved on to free up funds.

It's pretty obsessive given the % of posts in this thread about it over the last few weeks.

Obviously it's preferable to do business early, as I said in the post you quoted - maybe you missed that.

Another thing you're missing, or failing to understand, is that the club are close to the line on financial regulations due to years of mismanagement and are in the process of attempting to offload 4 senior players. Those two facts combined make transfer planning in advance extremely complex.

You know, that kind of thing 😀

It's the fact that 3 of those players are completely delusional, which is severely hampering us and being honest I can see all.3 waiting till deadline day to make a move, almost out of spite.

I think Cunha and Bryan will be the headline signings and in that sense, we have done an awful lot of the business early.

It will be a small squad, there are young players to be promoted and getting rid of the players deemed to be a bad influence once and for all will improve the squad. Amorim not having to field questions about the carry on of Garnacho or Rashford and to just have a group of players all pointing in the one direction just has to be better.

If you think we'll sign 4 or 5 more players, you will be disappointed.

    more money coming our way.

Real Madrid and Benfica are now closing in on the agreement for Álvaro Carreras!

Negotiations very advanced as Álvaro only wants Real Madrid, personal terms are sealed since June.

The deal can be formally closed after the Club World Cup. Almost there, as

I probably did miss it in your post, didn't actually read it all.

Don't fail to understand anything about where the club is at from a financial perspective or why, or indeed how we have "levers" to use to help with that if needed.

My reply was to deal with some benefits or demonstrable positives to getting business done early.

We do this every year, it's very cyclical.

We need to hit the ground in the transfer market -> we still have lots of time don't panic -> pre season doesn't start for X more weeks don't worry -> look we aren't exactly far behind most other clubs in terms of business -> okay the first game is next week, not ideal but still time -> okay it's not been great that things have dragged on but the window doesn't close for another week

Rinse and repeat. You can definitely get good work done late, you can definitely encounter issues with your plan A, B and C. Doesn't take away from any of the self evident positives of managing to execute early business in terms of squad planning.

So between him, Greenwood and Elanga, likely to take in 25m+ from sell on clauses. Big improvement in that respect to all the other transfers out in the last decade, though not too many pulled up any trees after leaving OT.

Will hopefully help get the Mbeumo deal over the line and maybe one other signing because as @JRant said I can see the unwanted players hanging around the club until late in the transfer window.

If the summer hinged on selling 3 players for big sums when one is known to be money first and only money and had his loan club pay to NOT make the deal permanent and another has delusions of grandeur thinking he'd be a priority at Barcelona.

I'll be amazed if either Sancho or Rashford are gone before deadline day, although if we agree to pay all of Sancho's wages he might fùck off quickly if his money was safe. Rashford unless he cops on will be waiting for Barca until he secures a loan move to Sunderland in the final few hours of the window.

If the club really thought those two were gunna move quickly they were deluded. Never mind that the two combined would barely raise enough to sign a single player.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,881 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Chelsea didn't pay money to avoid signing Sancho. Chelsea wanted to sign him but couldn't agree on wages. They didn't pay us a loan fee to take him last summer so the £5M you could say was like a loan fee paid at the end of the loan rather than the beginning.

Yes I don't really disagree with any of that, I'm just more patient than most seem to be because it's highly unusual for a club to be looking to sell 4 senior players who are all worth between 20-45m (maybe more for Garnacho). All these players were given contracts under the previous regime.

I think in previous Summers there were less excuses for slow business, we usually weren't trying to sell so many and our financial situation was usually much healthier.

Basically I think the people running things now are a million times better than Woodward/Arnold but they operating in far more difficult conditions at the moment.

Leaving aside the current discussions about who's in and who's out, it's depressing to scroll down through just how much the club has spent in recent years and got - relatively speaking - not a great return. And yes, it's transfermkt, but still.

I wouldn't be so down on Kean as a signing, he was too young and raw similar to Hojlund at United.

But he's gone off and rebuilt himself and is coming off his best ever season at 25, it might just have all clicked for him and he's the next guy (the next guy is who many thing we should be signing)

He has obviously always been very talented, breaking into the Juve first team at 16!

Hes also a signing that allows us to keep Hojlund too and they can compete and rotate.

Our 3 most expensive outgoings last season (McTominay, Wan Bissaka, Greenwood) made us €73million and each of them went on to be stars at each of their clubs (McTominay and Wan Bissaka were their respective players of the season) while we had the worst season in 30+ years.

While players are hardly tearing up trees at United, we don't do a good enough job getting the best money for departing players.

Benfica pulling a fast one and including a player from Madrid as part of the deal so any sell on will be significantly reduced i assume. If that's the case we should just activate the buy back clause and s3ll him to Madrid ourselves.

Don't think it works like that. The clause will operate based on his value rather than the difference between the 2 players. Could be wrong, but that's what I read.

An old reddit ITK saying Mbeumo tomorrow.

I never believed him until tonight 👀

I don't have twitter it's from a comment on reddit, he's an awful source I wouldn't get excited.

Well it had previously been stated that Mbeumo was due back to training with Brentford on Monday past, as he wasn't involved in the June internationals for Cameroon.

It appears though that he's been told not to come back til next week. No reason given but presumably it's due to the ongoing transfer talk.

Even aside from transfers in and out, the players should surely be getting more accustomed to Amorim's system. I would expect an organic improvement, even with the same players.

It will be a very interesting start to the season.

Last season we "wrote off" the league so could persevere with off-form players.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,665 ✭✭✭keeponhurling

A huge positive of this window is that United are taking a harder line on Rashford, Garnacho, Sancho, Antony and Malacia. We shouldn't underestimate this.

Amorim is clear they are not in his plans, for various reasons, and the club are backing him. Of course we will lose money on them but this is the type of open-heart surgery needed.

In the past, players like that would be allowed to underperform year after year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,995 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

Reportedly that goof Rashford turned up to Carrington yesterday despite being told he wasn't needed. He trained alone.

If true, it's good that he's not being involved with the team but it can't make for a good atmosphere either.

Mod Edit: Warning issued for player abuse

I made the effort today to learn how to pronounce Bryan Mbeumo's name.

It's not m-bway-mo, or m-berm-o like I've heard many commentators and transfer news folks say.

    It's M-Boo-Mo.

I feel that my uncertainty was the only thing holding up the deal, so today is the day it gets done. Can feel it in me water.
