You're all over the place here.

I hope it is a diverse casting now just for the meltdown you and others will have.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,611 ✭✭✭✭MrStuffins

Sure. But the black female actress didn't play James Bond so your point does not stand.

Also, it was all explained and made sense within the plot of the movie.

Seems like you just want to have a moan about it years after the event. It's boring. There are threads about Covid masks, cyclists not using the bike lanes and people with multiple genders elsewhere on Boards if you want to have a moan in those ones too.

This one is about the future of James Bond however.

So disingenuous it is then. "When i saw the black female 007 i knew the world had turned" and "The last 007 was a black woman-Any chance of a white male 007" both imply that the lead Bond character and star of the movie was a black woman. Which obviously was not the case.

It's totally disingenuous to take an in-world scenario — where Bond retires, with his number being reassigned to someone else, before then being given back to him when he comes out of retirement — and then conflate that with the real world casting discussions for the next movie. A white man has been the star in every single Bond movie so far, and the last one was no different.

I said the black female played 007-

Never said nothing about her playing James bond-

    She played 007-

Your opinions are all over the place-

    I just mentioned facts-

007 was still played by a black woman-

I was right- U were not-

Nobody is disputing that the number 007 was, for a period of the movie, reassigned to a black woman, but rather your disingenuous outrage over it. So, feel free to point out whatever it was I said that was supposedly incorrect.

And I'm kinda scared to ask but, given that we have established that James Bond was still a white male and the star of the last movie, and that the plot machinations around his number being briefly reassigned were entirely explained in-universe — why did you "know the world had turned" simply because the agent the number was reassigned to happened to be black? Sounds pretty dodgy…

I really hope they don't go down the tech-bro villain route.
Or AI, or anything too 'techy'.

A villain with a giant bomb or laser, and maybe a cat will do.

I don't think they can really go down the AI route. For now anyway. Will just be accused of copying the Mission Impossible formula.

    Freakin sharks with lasers!

I dont see them going down the tech bro villain route as James Bond is now owned by Amazon which is owned by a bona fide tech-bro.

Ah Christ. Here we go again. "Oh the world's gone woke" (Definition pending).

I actually thought that she was great. Was fun seeing her with all the flair and budget and cars and stuff as 007 while he was slumming it. Thought it was a funny contrast.

But yeah, won't someone think of the poor white males. My God, only 26.5 of the 27 James Bond films had a white male as 007. Madness I tell ya. MADNESS!

I actually thought that idea that was floated about (Before Skyfall) that even the name "James Bond" was an alias was interesting. And before Skyfall, it actually worked out:

James Bond was 't any of their real names but was like 007, handed out as needed. Would explain the change in actors:

Connery: Got too old. Retired (Or locked up in Alcatraz :) )

Lazenby: Had breakdown after loss of wife.

    Moore: Got too old. Retired.

Dalton: Went off the rails. Fired/locked up

    Brosnan: Got too old. retired

Craig: Dead (Oh come on folks, it's been out years)

Didn't stop them going the down and dirty Bourne route with Casino Royale. Hard to know what angle to take. They'd have to go something time neutral. Can't go tech-bro. Can't go AI/techy. These things date very badly. Will prob just have to go good old fashioned bioweapon: Bioweapon > Destabilize governments > Insert Next Step Here > Profit.

Anyway, I'm not holding my breath on it being anything more than filler

I can't really remember too much about Lashana Lynch's 007 in No Time To Die but I thought she was terrific as another MI6 agent in The Day of the Jackel.

I watched Zulu / Zula dawn again on Prime recently- i don't expect a white acter to be in the Zulu charge- but all of a sudden the male role is being female-

What's wrong with being male and interested in a woman-

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,085 ✭✭✭Rocket_GD

007 isn't a male role, it's a fantasy code number for an imaginary MI6 agent.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 36,143 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Who's saying there's anything wrong with being male and interested in a woman?

And what male role was suddenly female? James Bond was still a man, and still very much the star of the film. Or are you saying there should never be any female MI6 agents in the movie? Or are you saying that within the world of the film, the specific number 007 should for some reason be only for men?

And because you ignored this question before — given that we have established that James Bond was still a white male and the star of the last movie, and that the plot machinations around his number being briefly reassigned were entirely explained in-universe — why did you "know the world had turned" simply because the agent the number was reassigned to happened to be a black woman?

I watched Zulu / Zula dawn again on Prime recently- i don't expect a white acter to be in the Zulu charge- but all of a sudden the male role is being female-

    What???

What's wrong with being male and interested in a woman-

I don't even know where to start with this. How did you get any of these comments from what I posted?

Honestly I am genuinely baffled. Honestly. It seems that EVERYTHING is now "woke". They are genuinely giving out in the US about Superman being a nice guy because that's considered "woke". Are upset that he is referred to as an alien even though he stands for "Truth, Justice and the American Way" (How can a non American stand for good things like Truth and Justice. They are trademarked American). They can't even agree why they are p1ssed

As stated. James Bond. STAYED as a blonde, blue-eyed white male. Sure, he's not perfect. He's not American :). But he is the epitome of Aryan.

A valid, described, justified plot point BRIEFLY assigned his number to another person who just so happened to be a black female. I personally found it an interesting idea to remove/reassign his number. Thought it was handled in a fun way: Given all her resources, she was always just one step ahead and in better style. The EXACT same way Bond had the same resources and style when HE was 007

Yet you ask: "What's wrong with being male and interested in a woman-" THAT'S your concern? THAT? What makes you think I have a problem with men liking women?

    Weird

Mod note: OK think this particular conversational thread has gone as far as it’s going to go (though frankly I’m not even sure where it’s gone with some of the recent posts). Let’s leave it there and get back to reality-based discussion and speculation of future Bond films please.

Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight has signed on to write the next James Bond movie.

Knight promised a "better, stronger and bolder" Bond storyline for fans.

"It has always been on my bucket list and it's fantastic to be invited to do it - I can't wait to get started"

you'd have thought the previous writers and producers might have considered this issue when they decided to kill the dude off, and maybe left some notes or suggestions.

I don't think even Dr Who could regenerate from how they killed him off!
Sure let's push the envelope on scifi and have an AI mind dump taken before missions…

take it back to the 70s maybe - the last couple of movies were pretty dull anyway.

or just carry on as normal and ignore the last movie.

Just seems to be overthinking on the writers part.

Or not realising that the filmgoers have been perfectly happy to suspend belief with this franchise from the start, via multiple actors playing the same role from Bond to M, Q, Blofeld, Felix & Moneypenny, often changing skin colour and sex.

They could literally slot a new actor into the same core cast yet continue as if nothing had happened and I don't think too many would complain.
Wasting an hour of the next film on a tortuous and unnecessary retconned explanation would be so much worse.

It's simple really just have the opening scene start with Bond in a shower and bring back a former Bond girl from before Craig's films calling his name.

Or better than a Bond girl just get Judy Dench back for one scene to do it

This tactic could open the door for Pierce Brosnan to return, the icing on the cake

I always thought the whole concept from the start was to be a humorous consolation in the time of imperial retreat, especially after the Suez canal crisis. Brute imperial power could now be repackaged via humour, cocktails and gadgets.

Graham Greene's Our Man in Havana had been made into a film a couple of years before Dr No and its plot was a complete farce with no pretensions about arresting decline, just slap shod espionage on the cheap. Greene's plot had been based around a true story from Estonia during WWII but he wisely chose to set it in a country removed from the still recent war in Europe.

I enjoyed the Bond movies up to our own Pierce Brosnan, but maybe it was the post 9/11 mood infected the franchise with an earnestness that sacrificed all humour. There's a seriousness about the Daniel Graig movies which just bored me to be honest.

Bond movies were always meant to somewhat pantominish, and they mostly were, up to the last Brosnan flick.

The should just cast a new bond and get on with it… set it back a few decades if they want, but just get over his death from that awful Dr No movie…

you don't think Bale Batman asked Joker how he is still alive from when Keaton Batman threw him off a cathedral roof.

Reuse (or remake) the Bond funeral scene from You Only Live Twice and when the body is taken into the submarine have the new guy come out
