Comfortable win for the ladies over a limited Tipperary side. Will definitely need to be more clinical in the semi final against Kerry as, like the Leinster final, had a lot of bad misses. Third year in a row we'll face Kerry in the knockout stages (apart from the final in 2022) but this will be in Tullamore instead of Tralee so will be more of a Meath crowd this time round having lost in Tralee the last two years.

Great to have both senior sides in semi finals though. Decent crowd at it as well.

i taught the timing of the game was poor on tipperary given the hurlers were still playing in croke park the standard of the ladies game has massively improved over the last 15 or 20 years but you need everyone singing from the same hymn sheet in order to promote the game further

Yeah thought it was odd as well. All other quarter finals were on Saturday afternoon/evening. I suppose there was never going to be a huge Tipp following, but there would likely have been at least a few more had their hurlers not been playing at the same time.

yes bad timing for tipp…. It was an easy enough win which won’t help going up against Kerry now…

Will there be any change in jersey on Sunday, do we know? I'm thinking both teams' first jerseys are dissimilar enough to not need a change (don't think there was any change in 2019), but I remember our game against them in 2002 where both sides wore bizarre versions of the Leinster and Ulster Railway Cup jerseys.

Looking like it'll be a near sellout on Sunday. Don't remember the last time we were involved in a near sellout game in Croke Park, 2009 Leinster quarter final against Dublin perhaps?

Donegal wearing white, Meath wearing that GK yellow kit they have.

Meath asked to wear the navy kit they worse against Offaly but apparently denied by the GAA

Just had a look. Only Nally tickets left and still 5 days to go. It'll be a spectacle for sure.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,172 ✭✭✭rpurfield

Any idea why it isn't allowed? The Donegal kit is white so it would make more sense than a light yellow surely.

Actually buzzing for this now. Its been so long since we got here I think its important to take it all in.

Robbie Brennans interview on newstalk tonight was interesting.

Really Looking forward to Sunday, great chance, nothing to lose, young team with no fear.

Can't understand not being allowed to wear the navy one. We played in the navy jersey against Offaly and their second jersey would be very similar to Donegal's. A sunny day (which it's looking likely to be) will make it very difficult to distinguish the white and bright yellow jerseys.

Back to home kits for both teams now according to Fergal lynch. Just as an aside to it I remember years ago clashes were resolved by teams wearing their provincial colours instead. That resulted in the trim on the Meath jersey being white instead of gold!

Gonna be an absolute scorcher on Sunday apparently. Has to suit us more we'd be a lot younger on average I reckon

I remember that 2002 game and no one on the Hill knowing who to cheer for when the teams came out before throw-in.

Its going to be heat melting in Crokers! I bought a portable neck fan to help 😂 cant wait for the game now. If we're there abouts in the last 20 I think we could win it 🤞

No change to the starting 15 from Galway.

Absolutely bricking it. Not confident at all but if we can get a run on Donegal, I think we'd be in a good position to see it out in the second half. Like the Galway game, all the pressure on our opposition whereas our season can be classed as a success already regardless of the result!

I've found a lot of lazy analysis throughout the week. So many putting down the wins we've had this season so far this season. Against Dublin, it was because we had the wind in the first half. Kerry, well they were without 6 starting players (ignoring the same situation for us) and Galway have been poor all year and we still only scraped by. I think very few of our games have been on TV which is probably an advantage for us. Robbie seems to be very flexible with his tactics. While in some games, we've relied a lot on 2 pointers, in our only two games in the whole season where we've failed to get one, we've won.

Just want to get Sunday over with now. I'm a bag of nerves.

Heard hickey gone with hamstring, bench looking increasingly sparse for us. Injuries have been a plague this year

Been buzzing about this match the last couple weeks ,now starting to get nervous!

I just hope we put in a performance, last 2 semis finals we didn't show up at all .

I think if the play to their best and Hogans on form with the kickouts we will be in with a great chance. Feck it I'm going for the win by 2 or 3 points.

Its Friday afternoon, it's summer time. We are in an All Ireland semi-final again. I am 53 years old. I have seen the best and I have seen the worst. It is great to be back here and hopefully I will see kids in Meath enjoy what I enjoyed in my teens and 20s.

    COME ON THE ROYAL!!!!!

Good man Paul, 52 years old myself. Trying to explain to younger people what it used to be like, especially explaining to them what the 4 games against Dublin in 1991 was like.

Meath have a great chance Sunday... think donegal are way overrated and if there is any team capable of turning them over it is this young very hungry and very capable bunch of meath footballers... the new rules have been a godsend for the likes of meath who like to kick the ball alot... they are the opposite for Jim mcguinness and donegal though.. I think meath will be there or there abouts towards the end of the game... it will be a good game...

15 years of been 5 down with 10 to go and still seeing the fear still in the opponents.

    Yep..

Have been at most League and Champ games this year and I'm probably more happy for my teen kids than anything..they have been raised on stories of the days we had in late 80s and onwards..great days 😁

I'm absolutely buzzing. Bringing my two girls who have already witnessed us beat Dublin and Kerry. Something that I haven't witnessed since I was 13.

I always think if I was born 10 years later (I'm 37) I possibly wouldn't have been following Meath as much. My Dad brought me and my sister to games all over the country and our childhood consisted of Meath winning being a given. My sister and cousins and I would stand in our grandparents garden on the main road out of Ratoath waving Meath flags (just because) during the championship. I remember one time when Tommy Dowd happened to drive past us and rolled down his window to say hi and we were star struck! On Sunday, I'll be wearing my late father's 1999 jersey, one of my daughters will be wearing my late sister's jersey while my other daughter will be wearing her Meath cap. And despite them being iffy about it at the start of the season, they're just as excited as I am. My eldest has even gotten adept at spotting people wearing Dublin gear!

It's brilliant seeing the amount of flags around the county again.

I'm veering wildly from thinking we could be beaten out the gate to thinking we could nab a win. At this point, I'm just thinking whatever happens, happens. It's been an incredible season and as long as we build on it next season, I'll be happy.

While I'm enjoying seeing all the Meath flags and bunting around the county, i can't help but feel the year won't be seen as a success without silverware. A year likes this deserves a trophy and they fvcked it by losing to Louth. As good as beating Dublin and Kerry is in one season, it'll count for nothing in the end.

Unlucky to not win the league, very poor in Leinster final. Can they win the big one?? Anything can happen at this stage!

Buzzing for tomorrow too, it will be tough but it feels different to 07 and 09 to me. Like everyone I'm buzzing for my lads to experience the big days too. My first game was the Donegal semi in 1990 so I got in at the right time. Hopefully we can pull it off but it will be extremely tough, need a lift in performance from the last day even.

Any more news on this? Haven’t seen it mentioned anywhere else, hopefully only a bad rumour. He’s such a tenacious impact player.
I’d love to see Curtis just play with a bit of abandon and have a go tomorrow, just needs to get a shot off early and it could lead to a good game for him. Most of the attention from the Donegal backs likely elsewhere.

Haven't been this jittery since the fourth game against the Dubs in 91. 63 year old man who should have more sense.

It never leaves ya! Great times and hopefully good times to come

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,407 ✭✭✭enricoh

From a fella that'd usually have the story right unfortunately, hopefully its wrong.

Was watching the other semi yesterday, couldn't help think if we got Tyrone in the draw we'd be in the final. And yet Tyrone beat Donegal in the group stages - just saying is all!

Felt the same. It’s clear that the heat is a major consideration with the teams approach’s in match. This weather suits whoever will win the more primary possession and controlling the game at a slow tempo, letting the ball do the work and leaving the other team to chase and run themselves into the ground. I don’t care how well conditioned Donegal are, if they are chasing the ball all day their energy will be sapped. I think that Meath tried to break the ball too much against Louth, instead of attempting the cleanly field it. If we can get that balance right today I think we will dominate possession. If our attack clicks, I think we can win. No sloppy goal concessions please God! There will be goal chances for either team as the sun seemed to blind players if the ball was delivered in from the Hogan stand(sun side) yesterday. Hopefully we are the one to come pouncing on these potential mistakes
