Respond to Alonzo, I would add the weather breaking so bad on the twenty minute mark. Our short game went and so did our momentum.

But we’ve been here before and shouldn’t be fooling ourselves about the multitude of errors and bad decisions we made under pressure.

I agree but the GAA were very close to a public relations disaster today and I'm sure they realise it too.

If Kilkenny had been just one point better off in the last play, with the scoreboard showing 2 when it should have been 1, it would have been a very big issue. Imagine going for a goal when they could have easily tapped over an equalising point.

As it was, Robert Doyle's block on the line didn't just secure the win for Tipp, it saved the GAA huge emabarrassment. We were very close to the final whistle blown with the teams level on the scoreboard, everyone waiting in their seats for extra-time only to discover a few minutes later that actually Kilkenny had won by a point.

Downey Joyce Healy all have AI U20 medals and few fringe players but they have a serious conveyor coming through but again doesn’t always convert to Senior All Irelands…Kilkennys big issue right now is lack of pace…Very static one dimensional…

I presume Deegan has been tried at fb and Huw centre back?

Yes we shouldn't make anything of it but it is wrong to say it didn't matter, who knows how it influenced players decisions.

How we played otherwise is completely irrelevant to the discussion

Isn't both Deegan and Richie Reid terribly slow to release a shot after a run, I know both are left sided but that's their natural side. Compare TJ he's at least 3 seconds faster. I don't know if I'm explaining myself well.

Canning covered the scoreboard issue well on the Sunday Game about how it would affect the players mindset.

Brendan Cummins trying to quickly change the subject.

Yes Cummins on to the corner back's save.

I wonder is there a route to a rematch in the GAA rule book. I'm not saying Kilkenny should, or will.

There's precedent from a club championship game in tipp, I believe last year. A team were a point down, but the scoreboard had them 2 down. Had a 65 with last puck of the game and dropped in into the square looking for a goal. Appealed the result and the appeal was unsuccessful.

In fairness I think we will enjoy today and not worry about munster next year just yet.

Do you know the rule book inside out? Are you an expert?

Come on Dan, you're from Tipperary 😅

Neutral here but I think that’s a huge huge mistake by GAA/Croke Park today with the scoreboard.
Not sure if anything can be done as ref has correct score but of all counties , can’t see Kilkenny persuing anything anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,822 ✭✭✭realdanbreen

Why don't you find the rule and put it up here, otherwise you're starting to sound like Trump whinging about the 2020 election.

4 weeks to the club championship. Looking forward to it

I asked did anyone know for definite. I don't. I asked the question to the thread. No whinging. Even if the option was open I personally wouldn't take it, I wouldn't imagine Kilkenny would either.

You're the lad getting excited. For a lad who's county just won an All Ireland semi you sound more like the real Dan Clancy than Dan Breen😅

Tipp seemed to get nearly all the breaks today and lots of uncharacteristically silly errors led to turnovers & scores for them, eg Mullen failing twice to lift the ball, Richie Reid trying to hand pass backward instead of using the 10 yards of space in front of him.

Ultimately though the game was won & lost on the sideline. We've been talking a long time now about our inability to work a ball out from the back, that's exactly what was needed in the last quarter to try draw Tipp out from sitting deep and open up space in our forward lines. And management have to be highly embarrassed about allowing Tipp go short when we have the extra man.

When you look at the line up for Cody's last game in 2022, the team is more or less the same apart from Jordan Molloy in for Conor Browne, who could very well have been lining out today had he not stepped away after 2022. Contrast that with the Tipp line up today vs 2022, more than half the team have been changed up.

I wouldn't be writing the obituary for Lyng & his mgmt team yet but he needs to have a serious debrief, and make (probably radical) changes to put his own stamp on things rather than persisting with Cody's team/strategy/tactics. Maybe bring in someone with a football background, like Jason Ryan, to help coach playing through the lines better.

even before they went down to 14 men.
There is so much crap been spouted as the winning factor in games now it’s a joke.
KK pulling back for the puck outs versus cork in 06, then everyone apes that idea.

Why on earth would you give Tipp clean possessions the ball from puck outs? We should have marked up and made them puck it out. Instead we give them clean possession in their full AND half back line from puck outs. Stupidity.
we go an extra man up, and we are at the same thing. I mean stupidity at the highest level.

Too many KK players that don’t show up or lack of ability shows, in the big games.
We need to do what Tipp did, out with them and go with youth even if it will take a few years and don’t come out of Leinster next year.
but sticking to what you know is not good enough is not the answer.

When Cody was in it, we were never outfought, maybe out played, but never outfought. This side have collapsed in their fighting ability since Cody left. Tipp had all the fight in them today.

For the last two years, completely out fought in the semis. Losing games we absolutely should have won.
Lyng needs to go, and so do a number of players.
insanity is doing the same thing time and again and expecting a different outcome, yet we are doing the same year on year with the same players. .
Heads dropped when it mattered. Lyng is definitely NOT the man, and never was.

Tipp got 24 scores today. We got 30.
if Tipp are going to beat cork, they need at least eight-ten more scores on the board.

Lyng absolutely needs to be gone. Collapsed last year. Collapsed again this year in the Leinster final, went ahead twice today and collapsed again the second time with an extra man and we couldn’t figure out how to use it( like our minor manager).

I mean really. Not just Lyng, but others needs to go too (I.e. a number of players) , And Eddie Brennan is not the answer.

And to those on about replays because of the scoreboard , I mean really.
We were outplayed in an embarrassing enough way, without being childish enough to ask for a replay. Tipp won the game fair and square, move on.

On 68/69 mins, there is four extra mins called, and we have the ball and are three points down. Put the ball over, bring it down to 2 and back yourself to get two points in the last 5 mins, to draw it. No, We go for goals. Crazy stuff.

Fine post and I can sum it up in 3 words… Coaching is required

That was a shocker of a decision. Would have put them 5 up . Why blow the whistle so quick when they let advantage go for ages outfield?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,354 ✭✭✭Marrooned

just back from self imposed exile KK hurling is finished there is nobody put forward or no plan to put new structures in place to stop the rot. Simple facts and they could actually put all three managers in place again next year.

say what you want about young lads or whatever, Take mossy out of it who was our best forward today? I’d say TJ, between scores , frees won and 100% of freees. Be disgusted if I was him. Decent wind, man up and lost. Terrible to say if it stays 15 v 15 we win, looked terrified onde puck out. How does any team let somebody go short with an extra man? Scruff abso cat inde goal, second goal shocking, he’s saved us enough times that way in fairness but his puck outs abso cat. Tj our best hurler ever by a country mile, and we’ll never see anybody better, if it wasn’t for him be under some pressure. Mullen or Cody couldn’t tie his laces, maybe with ballyhale but never with the cats. We’ll never ever see the likes of him again and in 10 years time will be undoubted 🐐, nobody admit it now, but he’s the king🐐

Some been bit harsh. We played excellently first 20 minutes. Great movement and runs through the middle. Very accurate too. Obviously went badly wrong after that. 30 points would win most games. Keoghan what a display again. Nailed on all star.

Full back line were poor. Mikey butler is obviously a very good man marker but for me his hurling is not good enough for this level. Too much fumbling, doesn't get it in his hand quickly enough.

i dont agree , i think looking at the kilkenny bench its all young lads that are not getting a chance , even stephan donnally who has had a fine season had to wait 20 minutes to come on because adrian mullan scored 2 points in 2 minutes , on top of that the substitution at half time was a joke shane murphy got taken off because he was the less established of the 3 in the full back line and not hue lawlor

tommy walsh getting no game was another bad indictment on the management

Kilkenny in 2022 were beaten by 2 points by Limerick in their prime and in the All Ireland final till the death.

2023, year one under Lyng, back to the final, a 10pt loss.

2024: Give away a lead and lose to Clare in the semi.

2025: lose to a young Tipp team in the All Ireland semi.

So a team that should be peaking now have regressed each year under Lyng. It's all about results and Lyng himself should go.

Nicky Brennan left after 2 years in the 90s and Kevin Fennelly 1yr.

Just curious to know what you mean by the expression that @ kk hurling is finished “. Does that mean that KK no longer dominate hurling and are just amongst a group of counties that “ might “ win an All Ireland. Fair from them being finished they may instead have regressed back into the general pack from which winners emerge.
The fact that Kilkenny no longer dominate hurling and Dublin no longer dominate football is in fact a blessing for both games as other counties will now feel the they can have some success without being belittled by the media’s and being constantly bullied by the “ aristocrats “ of the sport.?

what lost the game last year was conditioning , this year is a little more complex
