It’s not really an issue that affects the affluent classes of South County Dublin so it’s no surprise they can’t or are slow to join the dots on this.

There was a feature on the RTÉ news on Friday night about a new housing development in Dublin - I think it was in the broad area known as West Dublin (Lucan/Clondalkin etc.) The development sold out within 2 hours. The RTÉ correspondent there (a lady I had never seen before) interviewed about 10 people for soundbites. It was quite stark that only one was white Irish. They similarly showed a large queue of people waiting to get in to put deposits down/buy - I didn’t see any white people in this queue.

I want to be very clear on this - this is simply a statement on what I saw on the news. It should not be construed as criticism of immigration. I feel sad that I have to go above and beyond to point this out btw.

I would not single out South County for being particularly affluent. All the council areas are a mixed bag.

I’m pretty sure you’re aware that when people broadly refer to affluent areas in Ireland that South County Dublin is the first area they think of and mention.

Tony something. Introduced as a famous DJ. I'm sure most people probably know him.

He was on as the pride contributor.

Hanafin, Lucas and Fitzpatrick must have some sort of contract as a team this year. Coghlan is no longer a Friend of the Earth, and I don't know whether to blame RTE for spelling his name wrong, or if he changed the spelling himself. Second appearance of 2025 for Hanafin and Fitzpatrick, and fourth for both Lucas and Coghlan.

    The Newspaper Panel 06 OCT 24 • Brendan O'Connor

Joining Brendan to discuss the stories of the week were Scott Lucas, Professor of US and International politics at the Clinton Institute UCD, Oisin Coughlan, Chief Executive of Friends of the Earth, Former Fianna Fail Minister for Education and Councillor Mary Hanafin, and journalist and broadcaster Alison O’Connor.

    The Newspaper Panel 09 FEB 2025 • Brendan O'Connor

Joining Brendan to discuss the stories of the week were Mick Clifford, Special Correspondent, the Irish Examiner; Lorna Fitzpatrick, Public Affairs Accounts Director at Instinctif Partners; Mary Hanafin, barrister and former Fianna Fáil Minister for Education; and Scott Lucas, Professor of US and International politics at the Clinton Institute UCD.

    Newspaper Panel 29 JUN 2025 • Brendan O'Connor

Joining Brendan to dissect the Sunday Papers are Mary Hannafin, Barrister and former Fianna Fail Minister for Education; Scott Lucas, Professor of US and International politics at the Clinton Institute UCD; Lorna Fitzpatrick, Communications Consultant, and Oisín Coghlan, Public Policy Advisor. (Hanafin's name spelled wrong by RTE, they will want to watch out when she is President).

This slot on the show has gone from strength to strength.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Who manages to make two REALLY bad investment decisions in a row? That should rule him out for the presidency anyway, on grounds of bad decision making capacity.

That would be an awful decision for Labour , and an awful decision for Duffy. He certainly doesn't espouse traditional Labour values. And if he was going to run (which I don't believe tbh), he'd need to be the FF candidate, not the Labour one, to have any hope.

Hanafin brought in presumably in response to Saturday's article about her Presidential intentions. So did they have someone else booked in who got bumped at short notice?

Everyone in the whole country can see what is going on, and she will lose millions of votes for that stunt. It's the quiet ones you need to watch out for. When there are actual candidates with enough Councils and/or Oireachtas members nominations, RTE is obliged to give them all an equal chance. As can be seen from the panels, she started her run back in February.

I wouldn’t say MH was brought in at short notice as it’s been rumoured for some time that she was putting her in the hat. The article last week only confirmed same.

I personally don’t believe the pension story btw. I think it’s all part of the manufactured salt of the earth brand - I mean he has (according to some) the best agent in the country and surely this super agent would have access to only the best financial advice for his clients? It’s funny how it always came up in the run up to new contracts - sounds suspiciously like a crude negotiating tactic tbh.

    pressnier… 🙄, BOC loves her

Isn't "pansy" a slur. Suprised BOC didn't call him up on that and apologise.

This fella sounds like the heavier one of the Two Johnnies. Just waiting for him to mention junior B and chicken fillet rolls.

And the income from the dole...

    He’s just following orders caller.

Will we get sad Brendan this morning now that Joe has officially dropped out? We should be celebrating - I honestly cannot think of a worse candidate for President of this country. McGregor was never going to get nominated so I’m not counting him btw.

Hate speech / incitement to hatred case against protestors who shouted “Death to the IDF” outside the American Embassy last week. It’s not like the IDF are shooting, bombing, maiming, and killing innocent men, women, children, medics, aid workers and journalists or anything - but people shouting “Death to the IDF” is the real crime here.

    Trump bashing section now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,642 ✭✭✭Peter Dragon

Presidency talk now. Joe Duffy first up, despite saying he’s out on X Brendan says he’s still in.

Before anyone says it wasn’t equivocal he followed up a direct question on X with a firm confirmation that he’s not running. And Joe would never tell untruths…..

David W. Higgins not happy with President Higgins. Nothing to do with the fact that the President isn’t a FG’er like David of course. 🙄

Licence Payer, The great Joe has not said he will not be President of Ireland. He has only said he is not seeking a nomination:

As per my original post, someone followed up with him further post this tweet and he confirmed fully he is out.

Then joe needs to tweet it himself. Musk has banned non Xers from seeing comments/replies.

David W. (The FG-er) thinks it’s a great idea to reduce the minimum size of studios, 1, 2 and 3 bed apartments. Quelle surprise!

I’m not on X but it’s there on the comments. I saw it last night, it was posted in one of the papers too.
