    George Costanza from Seinfeld

    Jenna Maroney from 30 Rock

    Niles Crane from Frasier

Del Boy from Only Fools & Horses

Sir Humphrey Appleby from Yes Minister

    All brilliantly written and acted

Tom & Barbara were the lead characters in The Goode Life but if you were to ask I think most people would choose Margot as their favourite. Penelope Keith who played her then went on to ‘The Manor Born.’

His stunt work was absolutely insane and probably taken for granted in those days, its michael bay level!

Richie form Bottom, Eddie was great too in that show. As mentioned before Al Bundy was very good.

    Correct.

In fact, RIP to most of 'em. Alan Alda, Mike Farrell, Jamie Farr and Gary Burghoff are the only ones left, and all are between 86 and 91.

M*A*S*H is the best TV show ever made.

    Bob Sacamento for me.

Don't think Seinfeld would have worked otherwise

OFAH musical was brilliant. Loved that they included Uncle Albert at the end. "During the War..."

For me it has to be Del Boy.

Also love the Office, both versions and the leads David Brent and Michael Scott.

I was a huge fan of Bottom in the mid 90’s, I was a bit reluctant to rewatch it as I thought the crude, childish humor may have aged badly. Did it f***!

Ross in Friends….his sarcasm was great.

    Robert in ELR….ditto

It is hard to pick, I watched Seinfeld for the first time this year and liked Kramer and George. George was somewhat of an incel by 90's standards

I like Cliff and Norm from Cheers. I recently received 2 signed photos from John Ratzenberger in the post.

    Albert Steptoe.

    George Roper.

Albert mobilising his pensioner friends in The Seven Steptoerai and the kung fu fighting part in slow motion just like the programme Kung Fu was brilliant

I love Freddie from Vicious played by the brilliant Ian McKellen. Also love Jack from Still Game Hyacinth from Keeping Up Appearances and of course Delboy from Only Fools.

On another note there’s so much going on in Fr Ted it’s only when I look back and see a compilation and couple of reruns the insightful observation of Irish society manifested in the characters of John & Mary is brilliant

Most have already been mentioned already but here’s my 2c

I only started watching Seinfeld this year on the back of Curb your enthusiasm. Absolute comedy gold. George (& his father), Jerry, Kramer and Elaine are such great characters.

Ross from friends, I think he is very underrated but could not think of the show without him. Monica is great also. I enjoy chandlers Witt too, I very much feel that was part of is real demeaner (RIP)

    Phil from Modern family.

    Ted from fr. Ted

it’s interesting with Friends that the two most contrived or exaggerated characters Phoebe & Joey seem to be the least popular

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 247 ✭✭Put It In H

As the show went on they dumbed Joey down way too much that he basically became a child (while simultaneously being a bit of a creep around women).

They also made Phoebe very bitchy in the later seasons, particularly in the way she treats Chandler and Ross; in real life they would not want to be friends with her. Meanwhile Monica's whole personality just became being loud and obsessively clean, while Ross turns into a borderline psycho.

It's a shame because all of the characters had some great moments in the earlier seasons..

One of my favourite episodes of Friends is the one where Phoebe meets Mike's parents. Her line"Sooo, where does everyone summer?", delivered EXACTLY like Katharine Hepburn would have done it, was Oscar-worthy.

Aswell as Joey becoming insufferably stupid, I think he also suffered by almost turning into a straight man character for Chandler to bounce off.

It was when Perry died and there was various Chandler compilations I realised a lot of Chandlers best moments involved Joey's stupidity.
