Does anyone offer the full job, ie taking out old slats in the old low slatted sheds and putting down new slats

Local shed builders with a long reach telehandler?
Worked on a farm weekends/holidays and remember they had a 13m machine with a attach ment to give an extra 6ft reach that they had made a jig up with 4 twist-lock type set up during the nitrates building time.
Essentially place it over slat fairly centrally, drop 4 bars with a T on the bottom, twist then lift and its ready to manouver. From Wexford though.

The shed has only 8ft wide 6ft high doors at the ends so the slats have to be reached from the feeding passage and like all the old sheds the roof is low too.
You'd imagine the slat manufacturers would be setup to do it

Any of the slat manufactures will do it. Replaced two 5 bays last year with no extra cost for removing the old ones. Obviously if there are gates or walls to be removed before hand they wouldn't do this.

We replaced slats recently and the supplier would have done it for us but the access was poor for their equipment.
They lent us the jig for the slats which was handy.

We hired a teleporter with long reach and added home made extension to the boom as it just wouldn't reach. This caused it to constantly alarm on full reach but it worked.

3 of us but it took a whole day to replace 3 bays, lifting old singles and fitting gangs, yard was very tight and she's doors narrow, shed is near 40 years old.

    skid-steer?

Wouldn't be long finding the shook slats with the weight of one of those.
Probably wouldn't have to take out the old slats then, they'd be in the bottom of the tank.....along with the skidsteer

Took old ones out here using a 5 tonne mini digger from feed passage. Dropped em on to loader forks and carried em out. Slats were wider than feed passage so a bit of messing getting past the uprights alright

I replaced 30 year old gang slats with new ones last year. low shed, narrow passage. I did it myself 5 tonne forklift with a boom. Big dangerous job, I wouldn't take it on again. It's not a job for the faint hearted.
Mulleady's in longford will remove and replace slats

    A bump to this thread.

Anyone know anybody who will replace old slats and fit new ones in Galway / west area? The firm I am sourcing new ones from, are from further away and don't provide such a service. I have to go with these as they are the most suitable ones for my slat mats.

A mini digger. If one is too weak use two. If you can't get it in the shed dig a hole to lower the height of the digger.

Not really an option in this situation I'm afraid.

Harringtons in kilkelly took them out here with the lorry grab ,then fitted the new ones.Needed to have toe end cut out with consaw before hand to get them out.A point to note was that the new slats were roughly an inch higher than the ones that were down and had to make up the height difference with mat rubber at agitating slat end as this obviously stays put as shed wall sits on it.

As far as I'm told, they only fit the new ones, won't take out the old ones at all, and I doubt they'd do it for someone else's slats.

These the quarry guys? Was it their own slats they replaced?

hi mf. We had campion slatts in from many moons ago. McGraths are in Clare, we found them very easy to deal with. Competitively priced. They will come up and have a look and see what's required.

They are handy to make up a pen as they fit into the lip of girder as above.

They’re a great job under water troughs in fields as well, I used 5 or 6 for that job earlier in the year.

What size of a girder did you use.wanying to do this myself

If the slats are real bad they could break up when you lift them. Just be careful. I changed Slat above 5 years ago. Was amazed/shocked at how badly cracked they were underneath

I dread the thought of replacing mine, they'll be 50 years old in 2028
