I think the OP is somehow getting the wrong end of the stick here .

I am in favour of people giving their personal opinion , but know why the no anecdote rule is important on a thread like this . The amount of anti immigration stories and myths that were circling that thread before the rule was imposed were overwhelming it , and could not be debated or argued against . And yes it means that both sides now get warned for this and that's fair enough .

I think the whole anecdote should be removed because leaving what might be total nonsense on thread defeats the purpose of the rule if people still can read it .

That would probably be a lot more work for the mods though to separate it out , delete it and also put a warning up on thread . Too much .

I suppose it's assuming that people will recognize it's just a story potentially and discount it .

However some posters will still take some of these "stories " on board , judging by the thanks feature .

Help keep Boards going , subscribe or donate if you can.

Because you accused me of being 'anti Irish' when what I said was anti-crime …… and talked about domestic Irish crime as being dominant which it is because this is Ireland where most people are Irish! ….. and most of the victims of domestic Irish crime are domestic Irish people for the same reason ….. and I didn't even mention all the rural burglaries committed not by city gangs or migrants but by locals from the area up to no good ….. again go get some newspapers and read the court proceedings …… and go talk to some victims of this plague …. I was always polite, made a point that can be backed up by the media and courts ….. you are the one who accused me of being something I am not ….. and you are the one who has a bias towards blaming immigrants above domestic Irish when it comes to crime ….. plenty people like bus passengers, bus drivers, train employees, train passengers, people dining outside during Covid, etc. can back up my points about out of control anti social behaviour and who is at it …… it is constantly talked about in the media, it is constantly clogging up our courts and there is film evidence for it all ….. and it is not 'anecdotal' and you know it ……

Your post was quite rightly adjudged to be anecdotal by the mods, you disregarded the rules but you continue to demand to be treated differently from everybody else, you need to let it go.

Btw I absolutely refute your insinuation that I blamed migrants for criminality,I did not make any comment on criminality in that thread, beyond pointing out that not all crime is perpetrated by Irish people and I did that because you and other posters stated that all crime was carried out by one section of the community.

I merely called to task your insistence on using anecdotes and highlighting the contempt and disdain you appeared to have for sections of Irish society, low life scum was the term I believe you used.

And I am sick of the Irish criminal class carrying on the way they do and then blaming immigrants ….. and shouting the loudest at anti immigrant events with tuneless versions of You'll Never Beat Da Oirish ….. anyone who burgles, who rapes, who murders, who intimidates others, who loots property, who sets fire to police cars and buses, who deal drugs, who operate as pimps, who commit acts of terrorism, etc, etc. are low life s..m ….. and need to be removed from polite society and imprisoned …… and there is nothing anecdotal about it …… it is well established ….. the events of November 2023 in Dublin epitomise what I mention …… Can you tell me if burglars, rapists, violent thugs who carry out vicious assaults, pimps who imprison innocent women to become prostitutes, murderers, dealers of coke and heroin, terrorists who plant bombs that kill innocent people, etc, etc, bring anything but misery and destruction to their neighbourhoods …… and saying people who call these out as using 'anecdotes' is an insult to the victims of these heinous crimes …… as I said first day ….. THINK before you post !!!

You are on the help and feedback thread and the feedback is quite clear, you are in the wrong, you used anecdotes in the immigration thread and were sanctioned for it.Hepl has been offered in that others have urged you to accept the decision and move on,Your continued discomfort in accepting this decision is not nice to observe but I urge you to move on.

You are not going to convince the mods or anybody else to change their minds, also can you refrain from shouting and attacking me on a personal level.

So even if your anecdote was allowed, it was not about immigration in Ireland?? Aren’t off topic posts not allowed either?? Can’t figure out what the issue is in this case.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,158 ✭✭✭kabakuyu

It appears to be an unwillingness on the the OPs part to accept the adjudication of the mods. The no anecdotes rule on the immigration thread is quite clear and unambiguous.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,135 ✭✭✭lumphammer2

Why is it off topic ?? … far right types blame immigrants for crime and pretend domestic Irish criminals play only a minimal role in crime in Ireland to suit their agenda ….. very much ON topic ….. and the millionth time …. NOT an anecdote ….. calling it so is a total insult to the victims of crime ……

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,274 ✭✭✭jackofalltrades

"most crime in Ireland is done by domestic Irish criminals". Most of the people in Ireland are Irish so I'd expect that. It's an obvious and IMO weak point. They're are too many comments like this, "most of…", "the majority…", "nearly everyone…" then some vague, unsupported comment supporting/criticising migrants or Irish people. A better point would be to show crime rates adjusted for the size of a group in the population. Make your point with statistics.

I personally think it's a terrible rule but from a mod side it makes sense.

You will have people complaining about which anecdote got a warning for.

Terrible rule but makes life easier for mods, who have a rough time already.

I think the inconsistency is the most irritating issue.

A mod warning was posted the other day to stop discussing a certain topic and we still have the usual suspects posting about it and no action being taken.

I've been personally called out by one user multiple times on the topic after the warning was issued and they're still at it today. There's already threads to discuss those topics but they're clogging up the immigration thread with it just to have a go and start an argument.

    Glazers Out!

Apparently pointing out most terror attacks are carried out by Islamists got me a one day ban of Islamophobia? You might want to look into what was said about the church on this forum over the years.

You are being warned for the following post:

Islamophobic, a one day forum ban will also be applied.

All forum bans in CA, except permanent bans, are now lifted and moderation will be limited only to anything illegal, abusive/threatening behavior or matters before the courts.

Just a question for the mods regarding the use of AI and ChatGpt to create posts, not only on the immigration thread but also site wide. Is it permitted now? This particular thread has gone to the dogs since anecdotes were allowed but if AI/ChatGpt can now also be used, that is going to make it even worse.

And to be clear, I am fully opposed to the use of anecdotes and AI from both 'sides'.

The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the LORD your God.

So ChatGpt and AI generated content is permitted?

    No idea.

Moderation is now light touch as people demanded so put them on ignore if you don't like it.

Hi Daithima, it's a valid question re: the use of AI, and we the mod team are going to bring it to the admins etc and will update here and the charter(if needed) when that discussion ends.

    Thanks for highlighting this

Pretty sure it's a big no to AI generated posts

AI content is not permitted, could you please send me a PM with details of the post?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 801 ✭✭✭maik3n

That was then and this is now, lol.
The mods/admins are more hands off and apparently have a more laissez faire approach now.

With that said, I would prefer if we avoided using AI, if only to save ourselves from the walls of text/nonsense.

AI is not permitted and the charter has been updated to reflect that.

As we have the AI issue resolved can the link dumping thing be clarified? Is link dumping now allowed?

For example posting an off topic link to the Daily Mail etc. with a tagline of X country is right with no explanation or further comment.

    Edit typo.

Awwwwwwwwww no, is this place going to close down and die is it? Too bad ye banned everybody who didn't hitch their star to the fool suicide wagon of destroying the indigenous Irish cultural nature, y'know, the same cultural nature to what made the likes of this forum so popular and successful, isn't it? Ahh well, maybe ye might get 2000 human trafficked "subscribers" to keep ye going. Do they even speak the same language? Have they got any disposable cash that isn't solely for their own ends? Are 80% of them even allowed speak unless their speech is dictated to from some lad that died over 1200 years ago 7000km away in the sands of the middle east? Doubt it. So good riddance B.
