Aligator Alcatraz - from the link above:

CNN reported in June that less than 10% of migrants booked into ICE custody since October were convicted of serious crimes like murder, assault, rape or robbery. More than 75% had no conviction other than an immigration or traffic-related offense, according to ICE data from October through the end of May.

Trump inspecting a facility of immigrant dewtainees in Florida

Wow he's really going old-school right-wing there. Plenty of 'dews' in Florida who originally came from elsewhere in fairness…

So Vance had to use his casting vote to get the bill over the line for a return trip to the House. It seems to have been a close call but I expected the GOP cast to give Trump what he asked for even though it caused changes to the bill since it moved from the House to the Senate. Excellent staged performance. I expect there will be more changes to the minutiae of the bill, as Vance put it.

It's now up to those who'll suffer from the cuts who should apply the whip to the backs of the Senate and House GOP members: dig, baby, dig, when the GOP script gets the bill over the House line after a fine performance of members "reluctantly" changing their voting positions.

Sorry, it was just a typo on my part.😁 You can blame it on my outrage at this obscene policy.

The Trump performance on Truth Social should be good for the next week with the EU trade negotiators meeting him today and Netanyahu meeting him on Monday.

Very few people have read the full bill the guts of a thousand pages of legalese. There's a lot hidden extras. It's not just a tax break for the very rich funded by the very poor.

At least the 10 year moratorium on states regulating AI was blocked.

Notably, Senate negotiations reduced the proposed moratorium from 10 years to five, and added exceptions for state rules that protect kids and copyrights, so long as the rules do not “unduly or disproportionately burden” AI systems and models.

So not blocked and no doubt the AI companies will ignore this until prosecuted and will drag their heels in court over and over again.

Section 70302 of the legislation— would severely restrict federal courts’ authority to hold government officials in contempt if they violate judicial orders. This will embolden "government officials" in spite of 170 rulings against this government.

But don't worry - the reconciliation bill would require anyone suing the government to pay a bond before the court can use its contempt power to enforce injunctions or restraining orders meant to halt illegal actions. Rich people won't be affected

The Lancet did an article projecting the effects of defunding USAID:

    "Forecasting models predicted that the current steep funding cuts could result in more than 14 051 750 (uncertainty interval 8 475 990–19 662 191) additional all-age deaths, including 4 537 157 (3 124 796–5 910 791) in children younger than age 5 years, by 2030."

Scumbag is too polite a word for the murdering Nazi.

At this stage America and the American citizens deserve everything they get from Trump and his puppet master billionaire buddies. They the American voters had their chance to stand up but the large majority sat back when Biden got elected and said they did their job then. That was when Trump and and his puppet masters really started their job.

They wholly deserve it. All those lies about taking care of their own people first are well and truly debunked at this point.

Apparently the site has/is a landing strip, useful if you're transporting prisoners by air. As for the site, I can guess spreading the rumour that it's surrounded by alligators would have an effect on future inmates, as in: bef***ed if I'm going to be eaten by them, I'll be a good inmate.

It would put a different slant on Trumps (they're eating the….) quote, thought Ron DeSantis might not appreciate the electoral effect if it turned out the locals wildlife were doing that.

He’s a fascist pig - there’s no other word for him - stick a semi-tash on him and he’s American Hitler 2025- this time the Jews get a reprieve (while it suits him)- the Jews have been replaced with pretty much every other ethnic minority - that’s the only difference between Trump and Hitler - I’m surprised he hasn’t proposed feeding the illegal imigrants to the alligators of Florida at this point on a pay per view channel and make some money out of it - but I wouldn’t put it past him to propose that sometime soon

Not just a landing strip, a 3200 metre runway with ILS, full taxiway system and an apron big enough to handle 747s. The site, Dade-Collier Training Airport, was originally aimed to be the first component of the planned Everglades Jetport, a massive airport up to five times larger than JFK and designed from the start to house the US Boeing 2707 supersonic airliner. When the 2707 project was cancelled, the whole airport project collapsed, leaving only the rump facility there today. I presume that the site was chosen specifically for the availability of that large runway. It’s remote and thus ideally suited for deporting people without scrutiny.

Good luck trying to figure me out. I haven't managed that myself yet!

Trump has stated today that the price of gasoline is less than 2 dollars per gallon in 5 states. No state has an average price of less than 2 dollars 75 cent. Trump stated that the price per gallon in California was 7 dollars 70 cent.

Everyone knows he is blatantly lying, no one challenges him. Bizarre

That's what I really don't get with the reporters in the room. Just someone please shout "BULLSXXT" at the top of their lungs.

But they're afraid they'll never get back in the press room so they all keep their mouths shut and listen to the crazy and then afterwards go back to their echo chambers like CNN and NBC and talk about how stupid Trump is.

"Deputy State Secretary Christopher Landau confirmed Monday that the State Department had revoked U.S. visas for members of the band Bob Vylan over comments the group made at the Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts."

    Free speech, yo.

It seems like he didn't say anything about the average price in the 5 states. That doesn't necessarily mean he's telling the truth, but you never know, he may have paid 5 gas stations to lower their gasoline prices for the day ;)

Free speech does not equal freedom to say whatever you want. People often confound the two.

If this bill passes will it hurt the republicans in the primaries or will not matter a bleep no matter how much it impacts ordinary people?

"He's a Communist!" - The sitting president of the USA. It's not that this type of rhetoric hasn't been bandied about before, but sometimes you have to stand back and remember how far the US has fallen in its discourse when this type of thing is coming out of their highest office.

People say all politicians are as bad as each other. I wouldn't say this is true. Donald Trump is as bad in the category of previous presidents' bad tendencies, plus he is an outrageously corrupt (show me the Obama scam coin that netted Obama a whole other fortune) person with the emotional age of a 12 year old. And the best part is that his followers love him for it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,587 ✭✭✭PropJoe10

I don't personally think there will be primaries/midterm elections. Trump will stir up some civil unrest close to the date, deploy the military again, and say that it's not currently safe to hold elections so we'll cancel them. It would be right out of his playbook.

But the constitution says reps are limited to a two year terms and senators to a 6 year term. At the end of the current term, all members of the House and about a third of the Senate will see their terms of office expire. Their terms of office doesn't just carry on if there is no election. If there is no midterm, there will literally be no House. So an election every two years is mandated by the constitution. Trump can tweet and shout and threaten all he wants, but the presidency doesn't have the power to cancel them.

Also, the states administer elections, not the federal government.
