The night rate, day rate and peak rate are lower, just no EV rate. My usage worked out better without the EV rate even with an EV.

While you can revert back to your previous supplier within the 14 days, I think you need to then wait 20-21 days after you cancel with the new supplier before you can switch again.

Works out at 3 euro a week dearer which will soon be eaten up if electricity prices go up and they will.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,011 ✭✭✭bren2001

and the flogas unit rate can go up as well. It's not fixed in the same way as before, there are rules which allow it to go up.

You appear hell-bent on making the same point. For some people, the EV rate will suit them more. For others, FloGas will suit them more. People should upload their HDF files to EnergyPal and make an informed choice.

What are you basing your assertion on that electricity prices will go up?

I think prices will go higher - but not for the reasons you think I suspect.

Wholesale electricity prices saw decreases in early 2025 (e.g., a 6.4% drop in March 2025 compared to February 2025). The average wholesale cost also fell steadily from €167.51 in January 2025 to €111.11 in April 2025.

Reports I am reading suggest wholesale electricity prices will continue to ease across the year. Again these are forecasts and are based on current economic conditions. If things changes so will the forecasts.

So is whole prices fall, Flogas BWG users will miss out, along with paying higher network charges.

Fixed charges (i.e. network charges) are probably going to rise. However the Flogas fixed rate discount applies only to the unit cost portion (which in turn is affected by the wholesale price). If network charges increase, Flogas will bump those up accordingly.

VAT will go up. But again, that will affect everyone equally regardless

Show me where it says unit rate can go up. All I've seen is that S/C can vary .

Not hell bent on anything yet but you've not made a decent argument to show I'm wrong.

As I said, the difference is €3 a week between plans based on energypal

    Bullet point 2:

18 month minimum term applies, unit rate and standing charge are variable and are subject to change

They've actually changed the wording since February. The previous wording was: "This is a fixed energy contract meaning that the energy component of the unit rate and standing charge are fixed for the duration of the contract, but regulated pass-through charges may change. If we need to adjust these rates because of regulated charge changes, we will write to you 30 days in advance of the change"

Its not fixed unit rate at all.

Not hell bent on anything yet but you've not made a decent argument to show I'm wrong.

You're not necessarily wrong, you're just giving bad advice about a product you don't understand. Whats cheapest for you isn't necessarily the cheapest thing for the next person. Someone with solar, a heat pump, and an EV has a very different energy profile to someone with gas heating, a petrol car, and no solar. For very low users, Yuno may work out the cheapest because of the €200 sign up bonus (not that'd id recommend them). It not just about who has the cheapest night rate or how long it lasts, someone with batteries can charge up during the EV rate, predict their usage during the day to ensure discharge during peak hours, and use solar if needed.

There are other people in the thread with a bit more knowledge of the area that, it appears to me, you're being needlessly confrontational with.

Everyone just wants to find the cheapest rate for themselves and help others find theirs too. Thats what this thread is about.

Just because I disagree with you doesnt mean I'm being confrontational.i just disagree just like your free to disagree. I'll check out the point you made regarding the variable rate. It's false advertising if that's the case.

FYI..I've been on the bwg plan 2 years. Have solar and an EV

Ive also never even implied that what suits me suits everyone. You're believing it doesn't make it so.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,011 ✭✭✭bren2001

A post 6 minutes later to outline how you're not confrontational but you don't actually look into the point thats being made about the FloGas. Ok pal, you're not being confrontational…..

Ive also never even implied that what suits me suits everyone.

Cool stuff buddy, read back your own posts and you'll see what I mean or you won't, I don't care.

You're believing it doesn't make it so.

Same applies to your own posts. Just because you don't believe you've implied something, doesn't mean you have not.

    Im out buddy!

Yeah given that you couldn't even read the terms and conditions of the plan you're pushing I'm really not going to take your word for that.

Ok so not sure if anyone can advise here but I recently signed up to the BWG duel fuel offer with flogas on an 18 month contract. I will be getting Solar installed in about 5 weeks and was wondering can you sell back to flogas and do they do an EV rate, or would I be better biting the bullet and paying cancelation fee and looking elsewhere, any advice?

Getting a smart meter in next week and buying an EV then. What is the best supplier and tariff for the EV night rate? Thanks

Is it normal to take 2 days or more to get a call from companies if you use switcher.ie ?

I didn’t receive any calls, the switch went through electronically. (Might have been bonkers).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,664 ✭✭✭lucalux

Trying to make sense of the plans on offer to me

I'm with prepay power and my rates are 37.22 day and 18.38 night. Standing charges are €457.54, and prepayment charges are €164.86 yearly or €1.80 daily

Have to stay on a D/N plan as I have storage heaters

    Have smart meter installed but

    activated

Bonkers keep showing me smart meters. Also when I filter by fixed plans with my info, switcher shows me one plan?!

Are all plans variable lately or what?

Annual usage is high ish, 5500 kwh or so

Trying to read back through the thread but wanted to just see if anyone could point me in the right direction please, thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,286 ✭✭✭✭OmegaGene

if you have switched then I doubt you will get a call, the only time I’ve gotten a call using a comparison website is when the only option was to request a call back

    The internet isn’t for everyone

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,286 ✭✭✭✭OmegaGene

Have you tried using energypal to see what they advise

    The internet isn’t for everyone

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,664 ✭✭✭lucalux

    Did you mean me @omegagene?

I've done that yes thanks, all the plans it suggests seem to have peak use unit rates, and even when I filter by standard plans it's showing those peak rates with the day and night rates if the plan has them

I can't use a lot of things at night so it's the immersion and the storage heaters mainly, the day rate I'm on is so high and that's come down from where it was

Basically don't know if I'm snookered trying to find a day/night plan with lower unit rates or do I have to go with a smart plan

Also trying to do this on a phone is torturous, tables like that are just really hard to see and manoeuvre so I'm losing patience

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 977 ✭✭✭antfin

There are some smart plans without peak. The Flogas BWG Smart Day Night plan has peak rates but its the same as the day rate. Those rates are 25.94c for Day & Peak, 12.79 for Night and €331 standing charge.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,890 ✭✭✭Gooser14

If you have registered with ESBNetworks.ie you can download your data file & upload it to energypal.ie or bonkers.ie to see the best plan for your usage profile.

The first thing I would do is get away from prepay power.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,490 ✭✭✭John arse

You need to get away from that company, they're robbing you- energia much cheaper!👍
