Congrats! Same with mine, it arrived at the dealer this week . They sent me some photo and VIN. Picking it up next Thursday.

Same; white in Drogheda. Collection next Tuesday.

I drive a Tesla M3H so will now become a two EV household.

We'll be seeing more Inster on the road from July onwards. 🚗

Trying to get my head around the total purchase costs for the Hyundai Inster ‘Elegance’ (49 kWh) in Ireland.

I noticed that Carzone are advertising this model at €4,364 more than list price. So I googled “why is Carzone's price for the Hyundai Inster 'Elegance' €27,209 but the Hyundai list price for the same model is only €22,845?”

    image-e74d503c0eb7a-1e8f.jpeg

    Google AI response:

“The discrepancy between Carzone's price and Hyundai's list price for the Inster "Elegance" likely stems from the inclusion of additional costs and dealer markups on Carzone's platform. While Hyundai's list price is the manufacturer's suggested retail price, it doesn't factor in things like dealer delivery fees, optional extras, or even the dealer's profit margin. Carzone, as a third-party platform, aggregates these costs and presents the final price a customer would pay. Here's a more detailed breakdown:

    • Hyundai List Price:This is the price set by Hyundai for the base model "Elegance" trim. It doesn't include any additional costs that a dealer might add.
    • Carzone Price:Carzone displays the price as offered by individual dealers. This price often includes:
      • Dealer Delivery Charges: Fees for transporting the vehicle from the factory to the dealership.
      • Dealer Handling Fees: Costs associated with preparing the vehicle for sale.
      • Optional Extras: If the car on Carzone has any optional features, these would be added to the base price.
      • Dealer Markup: Dealers may add a markup to their selling price to generate profit.
    • Regional Differences:Prices can also vary slightly by region or country due to taxes, import duties, or other local factors.

In essence, Carzone's price is a more realistic reflection of what a customer would pay to drive away in that specific car, while Hyundai's list price is a starting point for negotiations.”

    Is this correct?

That is correct. Dealers will always have markups whilst the price from Hyundai's website is only MSRP inclusive of any grants, VAT, etc.

Wow! That’s a HUGE difference. Hyundai UK list prices (for all manufacturers I think) are “on the road” (see attached) just like when you buy a bag of gobstoppers and walk out of the corner shop 🤣

Makes comparing what you actually pay to drive away quite difficult (Ireland +UK)

Edit to add: I cannot see how to attach a file or post a ‘click link’ - the icons bottom left don’t seem to allow this ☹️

The dealer margin is €950 on all models; I think that individual Carzone advert has misled you somewhat. Check out this page; select your model and it will show you a realistic price post dealer markup being added: https://inster.hyundai.ie/products/inster-elegance-49

You obviously pay more for certain colours, etc…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 83 ✭✭EV01

US pricing also isn’t what you pay - in shops, everywhere

So, a new ‘Elegance’, no fancy extra paint just the “free” ‘flat Ivory’ (mine, which I love!), no extras just the plain ole top-of-the-range ‘Elegance’ - you walk in, sign the paperwork, pay the man, and drive out the proud new owner. Car fully paid for. NOTHING MORE to pay - to the dealer, to the taxman, to the State, to vehicle registration. Nada, zilch. You own it and the right to drive it 💯% 🎉 🎈

How much has gone from your bank account?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15 angelraven08

A new 'Elegance' Unbleached Ivory will cost (less grant of €3,500) between €23k - €24k.

So splitting the difference, €20,000 is the TOTAL COST FOR A BRAND NEW Hyundai Inster 49kWh ‘Elegance’ “on the road” in Ireland i.e. €20,000 has gone from your bank account and nothing more to pay - but without the govt discount/grant it would be €27,000

So in pound sterling that’s £22,950 (without discount/grant) and just £17,000 with the grant compared with UK “on the road” list price of £26,745.

So yes, a much better deal in Ireland. But, interestingly, I’ve seen quite a few complaints on YT vids that the Irish spec is missing things like heated seats, heated steering wheel, auto-dimming rear view mirror, cordless phone charge pad. OTOH, Ireland options include a sunroof which UK doesn’t offer.

    So you can’t please everyone😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,821 ✭✭✭Bacchus

    Elegance with grant ~€24k
    Elegance without grant ~€27.5k

Those numbers are going up in July AFAIK.

W.r.t. the Irish spec… I don't think you have that fully right. Yes, the UK spec has more but that will be the "Cross" model coming later in Ireland. However, the Elegance does have most of the things you mentioned….

heated seats, heated steering wheel, auto-dimming rear view mirror, cordless phone charge pad

The Signature model has most of these features too. The main thing missing that you mention is the sunroof, which will be on the Cross model. The V2L adaptor is the other big thing that will only be on the Cross model.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15 angelraven08

Yeah, lots of options that aren't available in Ireland. Heated seats and steering wheel, and wireless charging are included in Elegance and Cross. I believe the sunroof is only an option for Cross.

As far as I know, the following are not an option in Ireland:

    • V2L (Vehicle to load), both internal (socket below the dashboard) and external (charging port)
    • Surround View (360 camera)
    • Blind spot sideview cameras
    • Digital key
    • 2-tone color options

I've got heated seats in Elegance…. June date

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 83 ✭✭EV01

thanks for the posts - prices aside, the different specs chosen by the UK + Ireland importers is interesting

    Confirm UK specs 02 (‘Elegance’):

Included as Standard: keyless - I had no interest until I tried it. Now I really like it!

Optional: V2L - I was very interested BUT the pre-reg offer I spotted last month was too good to pass. Now, having read the infamous ‘ICCU’ issue is affecting Insters with V2L maybe I ‘dodged a bullet’?**

Not available: sunroof (Cross only); 360 camera (Cross only); blind spot (Cross only) - I wanted this and several YouTubers said it was in the 02 (‘Elegance’) spec. They lied ☹️

    _______
**V2L needs an expensive +bulky adaptor (which is listed online somewhere as an accessory for around £530?) - but is the V2L ‘option’ merely to have this adaptor included with the car? (in which case the adaptor would work with all Inster models?) or is different/additional V2L hardware/software needed to be installed in the car?

Keyless entry? I keep the key in my pocket and press the button on the door handle to unlock, is that the same thing? That's on Elegance at least. No digital key support though on Elegance.

The ICCU issue that's cropped up a few times on the Inster is very different to the one well known in other Hyundai cars, as far as I'm aware. It relates to AC charging failure, not DC-DC (12v) charging failures. It doesn't affect driving unless you run out of battery due to only having access to an AC charger, at least in my experience (drove to dealer for repair, albeit with 10% battery remaining, but the dealer was about 10-15minutes away).

My Inster's ICCU, non-V2L, was replaced under warranty when it failed (after seeing intermittent AC charge speed throttling for ~1 month) at about 5100km, when it finally stopped AC charging at all, and tripped charger's breaker.

There are different model numbers for different ICCUs that do, and do not have, V2L support. That is to say, unfortunately you do need different hardware for V2L, specifically a Cross trim level car with the correct ICCU - simply having the adapter isn't enough. This is indeed a hardware-level distinction. My Elegance trim Inster does not have V2L, confirmed by trying to use V2L adapter, but also my car's specs indicate the ICCU is the "11KW+NONE V2X" variant on Hyundai's system.

There's been a service bulletin / software update to improve the AC charging control since then which has hopefully resolved the issue - I don't think I've yet seen any reports of the issue developing newly after the update was applied.

For anybody who got their Inster earlier this year, you can check your Inster's VIN for outstanding service bulletins (in German). The new batch of owners should have this already installed.

I very much hope that the issue is different from the Ioniq and other KIA EVs ICCU issue, given they have different architecture 800v vs 400v.

I think the Inster ICCUs failing even after the software update may already have been damaged even prior to the update.

On Cross variant only: these are standard:

V2L, interior 3 pin plug socket + also available externally via extra cost adaptor

    Sunroof

    Blindspot monitoring

And they would want to be as Cross is a €2,900 price bump on Elegance 49 kWh,

Why would anyone want that silly green sticker ? It serves no function whatsoever in Ireland.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,017 ✭✭✭Buddy Bubs

I think I'll get it Joe. Green R5 same green on the reg plate.

I wouldn't be retrospectively fitting it to my existing EV or anything

absolutely stupid idea! As you say it means nothing, in the UK it serves a purpose, but the Irish version is just to show you drive an EV, embarrassing!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,081 ✭✭✭xboxdad

The ICCU issue on Ioniq 5/EV6/etc… is two different issues with the same unit:

    1. AC charging stops working (same as Inster)
    2. Big bang while driving and 12V battery stops getting charged ⇒ stranded

This is going on since 2021 across all Hyundai and KIA models.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,925 ✭✭✭User1998

I don’t think it serves a purpose in the UK either. They use ANPR for pretty much everything over there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 177 ✭✭Ir3

maybe so but I mean EV get access to certain areas etc so it identifies them. No such exclusions in Ireland.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 309 ✭✭Qaanaaq

Is this not just a joke about green stickers? Also surely it would not be compliant with our number plate rules.

I don't understand why people feel they need to copy stuff from the UK.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,278 ✭✭✭Meesared

No, they are bringing this in here now, as an option for EVs starting with 252 registered cars

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,858 ✭✭✭PGE1970

Folks, what is the charge limit on the Inster?

My Tesla M3H can charge to 100% but it's predecessor is 80%.

Don't want to charge to 100% if it damages the battery.

    TIA!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,925 ✭✭✭User1998

Hyundai Inster uses an NMC battery therefore 80% would be the recommended charge limit. Charging to 100% frequently is fine as long as you drive the car soon after

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 83 ✭✭EV01

thanks for this. It’s a worry that the issue extends to all Inster models and, much worse, that Hyundai haven’t pulled their fingers out to sort this and explain publicly why after so many years this is happening and continues to happen, and what they are doing about it, and what (if anything) owners should be doing / not doing (especially given the dangerous potential outcomes in the event of a failure - 12 volt battery? - say on a motorway at night). What does this tell us about Hyundai? - that they don’t care about their customers their safety. Silence is simply unacceptable in 2025.

You also mentioned a “service bulletin”. Are these trade secrets? Doesn’t the EU require car manufacturers to publish all their “service bulletins” for both customer awareness and independent specialist garages (customer choice / free market)? If they don’t they should.

Likewise “servicing schedules”. My 2016 Fiat (owned till I bought an Inster) had DETAILED pages and pages in tabular form setting out all the servicing required for each +every service (by age + distance) as did all the cars I have ever owned. Hyundai? NOTHING (apart from some “narrative text” hidden away in the 500+ page Owner Manual). Has anyone approached Hyundai or a dealer to get these service schedules for the Inster? (the warranty explicitly refers to these). I believe in openness +transparency - I WANT to know every required and advised action from a schedule so I can check these against an itemised service invoice from the dealer. Not just to protect the warranty with a “rubber stamp” in a flimsy booklet but also to satisfy myself that my car is always maintained to the very highest standard.

Lastly, I inputted my VIN using the German website link you kindly provided and it showed negative. But is it possible non-German registered cars are not covered? Indeed, why (if Hyundai considers this facility sufficiently important for the German market) does Hyundai not provide (and publicise) this facility for all non-German markets? Again - because they just don’t care about their customers?
