    Cracking colour.

I absolutely love the green, its whats drawing me to the car as much as anything and I'm still not sure I made the right choice.

A potential issue to be aware of if using scheduled charging with OHME and I see elsewhere Hypervolt home chargers.

The Renault goes to sleep and the charger can't wake it up when it's time to charge.

Not sure what the wider implications for Irish users.

Just putting it up as FYI/Something to be aware of.

I myself am thinking of both buying a 4 AND getting an OHME home charger so watching with interest.

If there was a problem id probably be letting the car dictate charging times rather than the charger, set it up using the infotainment. Wouldn't that solve it?

I dont schedule charge myself I do all my charging in work but thats the was i have my dad's EV6 setup, did it all on the car and the Kia app rather than the zappi which he finds the screen of very hard to see, its a poor display really.

Have Ohme and Megane etech. I use the schedule charging on the Ohme with no issue.

Had a test drive a few weeks ago in the 5 . Very impressed with it. Does not feel like a small car to drive at all, it is very composed. Really like the interior. Not at the same power for over taking as my Megane but it matches it up to 80 and below 60 is actually a touch quicker. Really hope my wife will consider it, would actually prefer the 4 for practicality but she doesn't like the look of it. At least in the pics, maybe in the flesh she will warm to it.

I prefer the yellow tbh, but I love bright colours on small cars. If the yellow didn’t exist I’d still happily have this green

I like that colour. Its a lovely car and I like that it has referenced it’s heritage in its design.

Nope, it’s called an opinion, I love the car and the design. I just think thats a horrendous colour.

There’s better ways to voice an opinion. You just come across as an ass.

I had a bit of hassle convincing herself that the 5 would suit our needs but like you, we have another bigger more practical car so its not expected to be a load lugger.

Id say the 4 is much more practical but from what I've seen from pics so far im not a huge fan. I love the look of the Megane BTW.

Was in Kinsale at Easter time when a yellow R5 drove very slowly past (our walking tour was in the way 😀 ) so got a good look at it. Looked absolutely stunning in the sunshine…

    I'm partial to your abracadabra,

I'm raptured by the joy of it all.

    Mine arrived at the dealers.

    Will be ready next week.

Mine has also arrived. Six weeks early.

Did someone here cancel a yellow Iconic in the last few days?

Seem to be plenty in the country awaiting delivery to customers, could become a common enough sight pretty soon, along with the Inster. I reckon there are plenty ready to go but people holding off for the 252 plate next week.

I have only ever seen 2 on the road, one after the other, a green and a yellow near where I work which isn't near any dealerships.

2 other dealers that I called into before I placed my order have called me this week offering me a car for 252, so there are some available.

    #MEGA MAKE EUROPE GREAT AGAIN

I saw a SMART one today - like a slightly inflated MINI- looked well on the road - certainly a serious competitor to the 5-im thinking there may well be a price reduction over coming year

I saw one at the Nevo show in Curragh racecourse, impressed with it.

I suspect the one there was high 30s pushing 40k but it was lovely.

Not a small car really it actually looked quite big. Very viable alternative to the upcoming 4

I've driven both, the SMART is a bigger car. Faster and for the price its a better spec'd car.

How do you do that trick to get a county reg? Im giving some thought to getting a RN reg plate. Hopefully with a 5 after that !

    252-RN-5xx

Only problem there is there's only 700 odd cars registered in Roscommon on a 251 plate so getting a 5 might be tricky, not like I could just wait until they got into the 500s. Maybe 55. Or somewhere in the 50s.

I believe my car will be ready to go from next week onwards.

5 would obviously be tricky to get so quickly.

I think when my dad got his EV6 he wanted a Dublin reg even though lives in Kildare so gave my Dublin address then changed it when taxing it online or something, can't remember the exact sequence now.

My brother also has 2 D reg cars even though he lives outside Dublin the dealer helped him out on that.

Im not bothered about any resale implications, I just think it would be a cool plate to have if I could pull it off.

I've actually seen quite a few on the roads already, including a yellow one with N plates on around the corner from my office, white and black ones near me, and a green… in Spain. No blue ones yet!

You need an address in that county, and reserving a reg costs a grand (and it has to become available in sequence like you've described). I had reserved one for my existing car but found that the distributor had registered it already - got a fairly significant discount as I'm the second owner.

As far as I can tell, the car doesn't come with a granny cable. I don't have a charger installed yet, but I do have an outdoor socket on the front of the house. Can anyone confirm that it doesn't, and recommend a third party one if there's decent ones available?

The wiring is there for a charger but it's not on the board, nor an actual charger installed - house was rewired in 2022 and I decided to get the cabling put in to cut the disruption a bit!

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 10,587 Mod ✭✭✭✭5uspect

If the house is wired for it wouldn’t take more than an hour to get a charger installed. I got my Zappi installed awhile back because the electrician was in the area. I don’t think the car comes with anything other than the CCS cable.

Try get proper charger in before car arrives and save the money. Unless you've solar save yourself a few more quid and just get a basic one, let the car do the scheduling.

I've never had a granny cable nor have I wanted one, unless you regularly stay away from home in another house or something I dont see where I'd use one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,772 ✭✭✭✭L1011

I do have two houses, but the other one doesn't have an outdoor socket; has mid 90s wiring, a huge expanse of due South facing roof, and is probably on a 40A service, so I'm leaving that one down the list for a more major new board+solar job

    1000058112.jpg

Just bought this from a French lad on Facebook. Think its just a nice little touch having a metal plate with French on it. Size of a credit card.

Im going to put it on the black part of dash where the iconic has the Renault 5 light up logo, the techno is just blank there.

79 euro so not exactly cheap and ill let you know late in the week if it arrives and I haven't been scammed!

I must say Renault have hit the nail on the head with the Renault 5

Granted its much larger than the original but it's still a hatchback, not one of the those obese SUVs

It's one of the best looking motors in a long time

Anyone else moving from an older car or a diesel to a new 5? Currently driving a 2008 diesel. Have always been wary of electric cars but tempted by the looks of the new 5.

no coming from another electric but its a decision we all made at one stage to make the move. Now that there are genuinely interesting cars in the sub 30k bracket and everything is a fair bit cheaper than it once was then I expect a few more to make the jump. The used market is struggling through a bit, most buyers do want new.
