The free in did seem very harsh. Was it really much longer than the Down goalkeeper was for quite a few of his? Basically awarding a team a point for some hesitation on a kick out is a silly punishment - tell them to kick it and let them at it unless someone is deliberately time-wasting imo.

agreed the down keeper took longer on kick out after that and no free awarded and plus the point that was wide. I always find it amusing that Galway always seem to get the best game out of the opposition, especial this team. Meath on sunday will be the meath of old reincarnated. hopefully we will get the 2001 version😁😁

You wouldn't know how valuable an extra day could be for knocks and niggles. Probably the best timeslot we could've hoped for.

No excuse now, got the best draw we could have got for the second week running in Meath, plus getting the 7 day break too ( Donegal should be playing on Sunday too if fair was fair). We are capable of beating every team left on our day, but, equally capable of losing to all teams left too including Meath, don't think I could say that about any of the other teams left.

We are becoming like Mayo, every match going down to the wire, drama filled regardless who we play. Seem to be making everything much harder than necessary, even going 10 points up and yet looked like we were in trouble with not much time left. It's thrilling to watch but, would love to get a match where we win pulling up.

Steady on, they did batter Kerry. Although how in God's name they lost the Leinster final to Louth is bizzare. Louth looked a limited outfit yesterday

Tbf, Louth winning Leinster was probably more than they thought they'd achieve this year, so I'd say they've taken their eye off the ball since. Objective more than achieved for this year and knew full well they were not going to win the AI, so hard to get them motivated, plus Donegal are probably the most dangerous team left in the championship.

We conceded stupid goals which meant what should have been a commanding HT lead was only a point. I think if Shane Walsh plays we're probably fucked but you never know.

Team is out, Walshe starts, expect to see a change before throw-in

    Gleeson??

Tbf PJ's been about as honest as anyone with playing his team as named but the one time he did swap out the keepers it was a late change also

We should beat Meath, but, they have beaten both Dublin and Kerry, so probably better than most people think, also have had a rest and while we were probably all hoping to get Meath in the draw, I suspect that they were also hoping to get us from the teams they could have drawn and will fancy their chances against us, but, if we have any aspirations of winning an AI we should be putting away a team like Meath.

    McDaid is a massive loss

Edit: seems to be just a switch so he is on the bench, thought he was out

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,294 ✭✭✭threeball

We need to be in control of this by halftime. Leaving Meath in it with 20mins to go and a week extra rest in the legs will be dangerous.

These first games in double headers are notorious for favourites under performing. Look at Kerry last year's quarters, how teams that were hot favourites didn't get out of the blocks at all. Seems to be a psychological thing.

We are miles the better team here, just looking tired. Will surely see it home second half.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,294 ✭✭✭threeball

Saving the legs for a 20min spurt in 2nd half I'd say. All teams playing fairly conservatively this weekend, then 10mins to drive on to close out the game. Donegal left themselves with alot to do but still won comfortably.

I'm happier with our defensive set up. They're getting someone back in the D, normally Tierney so we're not coughing up easy scores down the middle.

More pace in the attack 2nd half and we should see it out comfortably.

The goal chance was really butchered on the replay Dylan who had a poor half considering all the ball he was seeing just had to give it to Shane he had an open goal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,288 ✭✭✭Girly Gal

Very poor performance, too ponderous, Meath played well and deserved to win, mush more direct, but, will get no further and probably get well beaten the next day. Galway realistically should be beating Meath everyday out. PJ's race is run, has a squad capable of winning AI, but, wasting their talents, new manager needed for next year.

Total disaster. Meath will get demolished in the semis. All over them for the first half but nothing to show for it. A 5 min kick in the 2nd half and then a collapse. Don't know what's wrong with Galway teams. Football, hurling, camogie, doesn't matter, we always manage to lose to teams we shouldn't, throw away All Irelands to lesser teams.

Another generation with no All Ireland.

Commiserations Galway. I thought you looked like a team on a mission after sinking that second goal and looked like having Meath on the racks. Poor goal to concede coming into the final stretch. I hope Padraig and the likes of Conroy stick around for another year and you can keep Comer and Walsh injury free. It's wide open and Yee are as good as anyone out there. Unfortunately didn't see it for the majority of the game today.

Too many lads more worried about TikTok and Insta over football

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,294 ✭✭✭threeball

Mayo lads or Galway lads? No one this side of the Shannon is covering themselves in glory. Maybe we should divert it out round Enniscrone and things might change.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,288 ✭✭✭Girly Gal

Not with the way they are playing too ponderous, turning back at the 2 point mark, passing back and over with no end product, holding on to possession endlessly, but doing nothing with it, the few times they went direct yielded results, but, didn't do it enough. A change of manager is desperately needed, didn't learn the lesson of last year's AI final to be more direct.

Thompson is a double edged sword in that respect. Big plus when he kicks ball inside like he did against down. A big negative when he receives the ball and goes in to his slow ambling solo before going lateral. Takes all the steam out of attacks that go through him. I'd say he drives Maher mad.

Too much shytetalk about semi-finals for the last week, I heard some eegit texting gbfm before the match asking when the draw for the semis would be

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 463 ✭✭SeanJ09

I think he landed into the Galway thread thinking he was on the Mayo one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,288 ✭✭✭Girly Gal

I think there was an element of taking Meath too lightly, it was the draw Galway were looking for even if they didn't openly admit to it. Needed to start well and put Meath away early, the longer Meath stayed in the game the more they grew in confidence, as the match wore on, you could see the belief grow in them, had a 5 min wobble when we scored our goals, but we handed the momentum back to them with that soft goal. Short kick outs are so dangerous late in games, at least if you go long, you have time to recover any mistake.

Not good enough and better off out of it as wouldn't trouble any of the teams left based on our performances of late.

I think that's such a valid point. Galway haven't clicked this year and wouldnt stand a prayer in the semi finals. They looked so tired today.

The lateral play Galway persisted with all game was division 2 stuff. Louth would have given them a game today.
