Hi all👋, due to the nature of my job role and previous depression spells, I've been on extended sick leave since March due to anxiety and depression and likely to be still for a few more months according to GP and company doctor. My husband suggested it would be good to enrol in a course I would like , to try help my mental health. I've enrolled in a QQI vet assistants course but now thinking if I would be in trouble at work or my illness benefit payments stop, if they have a way to know about this course? I had to provide my PPSN to enrol. Thanks in advance🫶. I know....do shite first, ask questions later 😖

If your course is full time or significant part time hours then you will be ineligible for any social welfare payment unless you have obtained permission from the Dept. In the case of IB (If you are on it more than 12 months.) and some other long term schemes can apply for permission; however this needs to be done before you take up a course.

In any case I'd say your employer would want to know too so you'd be wise to ask them too.

What does your GP think of the idea of you doing a course, You need to ask them before anyone else.
