Better yet put him in goals and it'll be a huge improvement lol

Rumours of Barcelona wanting Rashford on loan, without a loan fee and with us topping up his wages.

They can feck off with that nonsense. But he'll down tools and refuse any other clubs in the hope of forcing it through so we're screwed.

Only way I'd consider it is if there was an obligation to buy and an even stiffer penalty than Chelsea-Sancho if they back out.

fine with an obligation with no get-out.

if not, leave him train on his own for the year with no football. he'll find a move then, especially if tuchel gets in his ear.

Genuinely wouldn't be surprised if those rumours were started by Rashford's camp to save face after how we was ridiculed earlier in the week on his Yamal comments.

"See? They do want me, I swear...."

A loan with a full obligation to buy doesn’t exist, as there’s no guarantee that terms will be agreed between the buying club and the player. There’s always a get-out fee (even if it’s not publicised) to cover that eventuality

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,065 ✭✭✭✭billyhead

They can go and do one. Let him rot in the reserves. It's either 40 mil or piss off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,380 ✭✭✭CantGetNoSleep

That can be agreed in advance and often is - it is the Sancho type obligation that is rarer

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,946 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

If he had a year on his contract I'd be tempted.

But he has 3 years. So that's £45m or so in wages that we'd be dumping in the reserves. We just can't afford to do that.

Plus it would mean he's still a United player. Still hanging around the training ground. Still friendly with other squad members. Still poisoning the atmosphere.

Not to mention his sale value on top of those wages, you could be looking at an £80m hit just to put him in his place.

Nope, we must find a way to shift him. Sell, preferably. Loan with a stiff penalty obligation, better than nothing.

then make the exit clause as punitive as possible.

one thing is for sure…..they cant accept a crap loan offer from barce, even if its rashfords dream.

if it is his dream to play there, let him take a big fat paycut.

i'd rather he is kept training on his own for the year with no football, than bowing to his demands. gotta set a precedent with these players.

If player terms are agreed in advance, then it's actually a transfer - just with the payment deferred for PSR purposes.

If player terms aren't agreed up front, then there is always a break clause.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,655 ✭✭✭Hodors Appletart

has there ever been an example of any club just letting a player "rot in the reserves", apart from Winston Bogarde, who it seems self-inflicted the situation rather than the club purposely deciding to impose it on him

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,560 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

In most cases the contract is agreed prior to the loan being signed.

Sancho having not agreed a contract, thus needing the get out, is unusual. Partly that was due to it only happening on the last day of the window I think.

Whether there is a buy out clause in general for other reasons (Club goes into Administration, is relegated, player suffers career ending injury etc etc) I don't know. I would suspect there is such clauses, but I don't think anyone has confirmed it is actually usual.

Chelsea had 3 or 4 players in the b squad last year that was let no where near the first team stuff as far as I remember

So I think this is, again, a different situation, although I can see the point you are making.

Chelsea had a whole shadow squad that weren't registered for the PL but I think most of them were used in the Conference League first phase. Not an option for us obviously.

Kepa gone from Chelsea to Arsenal for £5m.

I know maybe staying in London suits him but we'd have been able to offer him a real shot at being first choice rather than Raya's backup at Arsenal.

Rashford has a chance of going to the WC next summer. Club should tell him that no deal is happening unless it involves him permanently leaving the club come July 2026.

That he can forgot about his dream move unless Barca are willing to make any loan permanent. And they won't because they already have better wide players than him and are chasing Nico Williams.

If Rashford wants to go to the WC he'll find a new club. Think they should be willing to let him sit at home until January if a deal which suits them doesn't happen this summer.

Think we did it to Schweinsteiger when he was here. Got completely isolated from the main team and had to train with the reserves.

Lucas Perri wouldn't be a bad pickup as new #1/back up.

Barca can have Rashford for free loan this year with an obligation to buy him for 30m and a 50m fee to NOT buy him.

That 50m would be a great boost to next years transfer kitty.

Probably just Rashfords camp begging a "come and get me" again, supposedly Barca are closing in on Ronny Bardhaj from Copenhagen aswell as Nico Williams so I dont see why they would even want Rashford for free!

20m for Rashford, no obligation for United to pay the rest of his contract and cut his wages at Barca. If he really wants to go there then see how badly. That's the door opened for him and up to him whether it's his dream or money.

United happy with the few bob and not owing him loads of money

Barca happy to get him for a reasonable price and not have to pay huge wages

Rashford gets his fresh start at Barca where he apparently really wants to go.

i know there's lots of variables, but you gotta be envious of the efficiency:

5 hours ago: Arsenal exploring deal to sign Christian Norgaard from Brentford. #AFC proposal for 31yo midfielder ~€11m & awaiting #BrentfordFC reply. Denmark international contracted until June 2027 but keen - among options amid potential Partey exit

31 mins ago: Arsenal close to agreement with Brentford for Christian Norgaard. Deal not done but heading in that direction after ~€11m offer. #BrentfordFC midfielder wants #AFC + main target as experienced & PL-ready option amid Jorginho/Partey exits

The biggest thing with United is the amount of media, ITK, X accounts that will mention United linked with players then it gets rinsed out so days on end so fans may think we are going for this player and when nothing happens its "United are terrible at signing players"

Looking at City, Liverpool & Arsenal for example, most their deals they can say yes we can give x up front and rest in installments but United seem to break it down to a point its low base fee then installments with higher money.

TW closes 1st Sept and as long as RA has got who he wants & rid of who he wants then I be happy.

Depends who you listen to in the media I guess. I don’t doubt that they’re in for Mbuemo and it’s just a matter of time. It’s been slow for whatever reason and will probably be done before pre-season anyway.

What is good about this one is that they agreed with the player early and aren’t under any real pressure to get it done asap.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,946 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

Not under real pressure re Mbeumo, but we doo 100% need new players in before the start of pre season.

I don't want to be hearing about new players struggling because they missed pre season etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,716 ✭✭✭✭y0ssar1an22

that all may be true, but we still dither when it comes to transfer. 1st bid for mbeumo was weeks ago. still no deal.

it took arsenal a few hours.

i would say zero chance we have a striker (or whoever else we wanna sign) in for pre-season. i would say like a 1% chance we have a striker in for last preseason game 9th august.

i dont want amorim (or his fans) to be able to use preseason as an excuse if this tactic of slow walking everything backfires.

I did read it’s due to PSR & end of year accounts but again that could be excuse or truth. For me it Ornstein being the main man, Ben Jacob’s seems to have inside knowledge this summer also but that be maybe it. I hate how Romano constantly retweets the same crap daily

That's because outside of their respective fanbases, in the main nobody cares what the above or other teams do. United = clicks and ad revenue.
