Sure where else would they stay? No hotels available in Donegal for them to stay. Which I am shocked at, I thought Jim would have reserved us an entire hotel considering his own whinging about hotels last weekend.

Donegal game will have to be Sunday surely. Imagine the comments out of Jim if they only get 6 days rest

Logically Kerry v Armagh and Dublin v Tyrone should be Saturday, to give all teams equivalent 7 day turnarounds.

However, there is a problem as they are the 2 most attractive ties and Saturday is planned to be GAA+ with RTE getting Sunday which would be Galway Meath and Donegal Monaghan. Clearly not as good a slate (no offence intended). and might be considered a bad look to land RTE with the lesser ties.

I guess it might depend on whether a swap of TV slots could be done such that RTE get one each day.
Also there isn't any transparency on whether RTE get to make selections or whether they just get assigned their games. Under the 2010-2014 RTE/TV3 deal (years might be a bit off) there was a choice system at this stage with TV3 having #2 & #3. My guess it that no longer applies but I don't believe the tender documents for the TV companies were released.

If it's Armagh & Dublin it might sell out on Sat? And great what harm.

Have the Dubs lost a bit of enthusiasm for going anyway though?

I wonder does having the 2 GAA+ games together and the 2 RTE games together make more sense from a broadcasting logistics viewpoint? The guest analysts for the plus channel are different to RTE ones AFAIK? Not sure about camera men and support staff.

The idea of Pay TV is to attract as much money as possible. In the case of the GAA, they do this by contracting Pay TV exclusive rights to some games, like the weekend just gone by. They try to promote the Tailteann and the Joe McDonagh by making them part of their Free to Air contract. Don't expect them to give any concessions to public opinion about what should be Free to Air next weekend, they never bowed to the pressure from Munster hurling before.

They will be hoping for a big turnout in Croke Park, maybe the New Football will have that effect. Last year the two double headers were under 50,000. Will Kerry fans make the trip in good numbers?

I fancy Kerry, Tyrone, Meath and Donegal.

Think Kerry will be different animal next week. I just have hunch for Meath too. Think Galway have lot questions to answer still since last years AI final.

Don't see Monaghan being able break duck of winning important game when it really matters either.

But all 4 games will be very interesting

I can't believe Louth were asked to go to Ballybofey for this game. The nearest suitable hotel they could find was in Enniskillen, a 2.5 hour bus trip away in another jurisdiction.

It's not fair, other bigger counties always get the rub against the Wee County.

I can’t believe that the CCCC appointed the Louth bus driver.

You've picked two outsiders in that bunch, as Armagh and Galway are favourites for their fixtures.

Donegal are now the All-Ireland favourites, ahead of Galway, Armagh and Kerry, so I assume whoever of that latter pair wins will become new favourites. Q - is the draw for the semi-final an open draw?

Big time - 38k at the Armagh game and 36K on Sunday for a double header. Even around the pubs around Ballybough end the buzz and anticipation just wasn't there on Sunday.

Might be no harm as all we had during the successful years was bandwagon supporters who now have gone into hiding - no more listening to 'come on number 6' 😂

Depends on who advances. They will avoid any repeat championship pairings where possible or otherwise open draw.

LinerickV Wicklow was a good game maybe technically not as good football but still a decent game. LouthV Donegal and Kerry V Cavan were poor games with little excitement. So overall 50/50

I can't see how Kerry can beat Armagh.

After Dublin beating Limerick last week I don't have a clue though.

Are the semis open draw or are they now in brackets ?

I assume it avoids clashes again.

I'm getting real 2006 vibes off the talk about Kerry v Armagh.

In 2006 Kerry lost in Munster, then beat Longford handily in the qualifier.

Then then went in as underdogs against a good Armagh team that were Ulster champions.

And blew them out of the water.

It was the "startled earwigs" game four years early.

I'm not saying it's happening in 2025, but we have been here before.

That was an amazing Kerry team though. They were not really ever underdogs to anyone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,145 ✭✭✭RoyalCelt

    Is this confirmed?

I'd also like to know the answer to @breezy1985 question. Are semis an open draw?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 278 ✭✭Smurts

Thats the times according to Boylesports - not sure how they know before anyone else!

For the semi's I understand they still want to avoid repeat pairings where possible; otherwise its open draw

Boyles now saying 4pm and 6pm Saturday respectively, then Donegal Monaghan 2pm Sunday, Armagh Kerry 4pm

They are usually just place holders.

The CCCC will release the dates and times around 2:30pm

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 278 ✭✭Smurts

    Ah, noted!

Thought it was odd they would have the information before anyone else

A note to all those travelling, the Pride Parade is on this Saturday, the QF fell on it last year as well with the weather been shocking to boot. So keep in mind there will be traffic diversions and throngs of people in the city.

I'll be said many a time over if you're stuck in that traffic trying to navigate around the city center trying to source parking coming from Donegal or Kerry 😂

Makes sense that Armagh vs Kerry gets that peak slot. It's definitely going to be the big TV draw.
