I didn't have a great experience at BTP back in 2022 (and vowed never to return!) but I was lured back somewhat reluctantly by the TV on the Radio / Broken Social Scene combo on Sunday. It turned out to be one of the best festival days I've had in a long time. Just a great selection of acts performing all day long, no boring gaps, everything sounding fantastic - from Glasshouse doing Sigur Ros, to the kids of Kabin Krew, through Zero 7, the mindblowing And So I Watch You From Afar, Róis in the class little Puc Fada barn and so on, great act after act until the end of the night. They have fully sorted out the previous sound bleed issues and the compactness of the site was a huge benefit in the slightly muddy conditions. The food selection was excellent, the facilities were perfect and there were just lovely vibes overall. The early main stage finish is still a bit annoying but it meant we were on the bus home by 12.30am. I will return for the full weekend next time for sure.

Sounds like a good day alright. How were TV on the Radio?

Really good, first time seeing them live and they were sounding excellent. I wouldn't say one of the greatest gigs ever but definitely worth making the trip for. They didn't play a couple of tunes I'd love to have heard which took the shine off ever so slightly, but that was my problem not theirs! Kinda the same for Broken Social Scene - they played a very short set so missed out a good few of my favourites!

What a weekend! Best festival since the dreaded days of Covid - please please please let it be on again next year.

Friday was a nice warm-up with a great set from Krystal Klear but Saturday was simply amazing and Sunday wasn't all that far off.

As others have said, the crowd were a huge part of what made it special including there actually being a decent number of people at almost everything I went to. I've been at some fairly grim early afternoon gigs at the Picnic…

Getting to Sugarhill Gang and the Furious 5 for 2.15 on Saturday was an effort but so worth it even if it came with a generous serving of cheese. Sofia Kourtesis → Halina Rice → Thee Oh Sees was 3 top quality gigs back to back. Some kicking techno from Cailin, then Kiasmos a little chilled but still very enjoyable, and more back to back excellent gigs from Roisin, Jeff Mills and Booka Shade with a little bit of Al Gibbs before calling it a day. Wow!

3.30 for And So I Watch You From Afar was even more of a struggle than the day before but even more worth it. Best gig of the day and contender for best of the weekend. Did some random wandering and sitting around eating, including a lovely 15 minutes at Zero 7 before an enjoyable gig by Broken Social Scene, more excellent techno from Sama Abdul'hadi and a most excellent round-off to proceedings courtesy of Mano Le Tough.

Thanks everyone who went for contributing to a really special weekend.

This is going to be somthing special for sure. (I put a thread up on it).

I've seen alot of classic crossover gigs, hip hop, dnb and of course the LUSH! Classical... but never a rock one let alone post rock. Couldn't think of a better band to make it a genre first for me.

They are putting on a comp for four camping tickets for next year so thats one thing at least.

Also can please someone explain why so many are pissed at Marc Rebillet. Why was he late?

Looks like not a lot of people got the message he was pushed back to 10.40

Tent was packed by 9.50ish from what I could see so would imagine a lot of waiting around had people annoyed to begin with.

So these investors came in at the last minute for………..?

They haven’t invested money yet. They are owed over €300k so saw it as way to leverage that loss into ownership stake.
I think they are misguided in believing that a festival can simply skip away from paying artists/agencies and production suppliers €2m and everyone will be happy to work with you in the future.
it’s a small country and a small number of artist agencies. They owe CAA,wasserman, WME, ATC live a good chunk of money and want to wipe it all.
BTP will be or have already been blacklisted by those agencies. If those key agencies won’t work with you who can BTP book.

maybe they will be to a book a few acts for 2026, but anyone decent who can sell tickets won’t go near it. Ticket sales will be slow and unless investor wants to dump millions into it which I don’t see happening.

Last years first announcement came in December. The process of examinership can take up to 100 days, apparently, bringing it up to mid September. It'll be aaaages before we hear anything. Just loads of speculation in the mean time. Wishing them the best of luck in the process and hope it all works out. If I had won the euro millions, I'd be sorting it all out for them 😃

Also @bodhrandude lovely meeting you early on the Friday 👊

If that's all true, they won't get out of the examinership process, as the examiner has to establish that it's a viable business.

Great that it went ahead and everyone posting here had a great time.

Leaves a bad taste in the mouth though that they want to just walk away from their debts.

How far would a punter get if they only wanted to pay a proportion of their ticket?

    I'm partial to your abracadabra
I'm raptured by the joy of it all

your assuming that the examiner will have some industry knowledge that not paying artists/agencies means that a festival will have limited big name artist options, that big name acts drive tickets.
I personally wouldn’t be recommending anyone buy early bird tickets.

I am assuming the examiner is competent, yes!

Just a question, on Sunday afternoon about 1 - 2 PM I heard a very similar artist to Rachael Lavelle on around the same she played last year, really powerful soaring stuff. Was this the Glasshouse Ensemble with a female vocalist?

Glasshouse were on 12-13 Sunday with Lucy Rice of Last Apollo as one of the vocalists.

It might have been Olive Jones who did her own set early in the day before stepping out with Gotts Street Park on the main stage ?

Caught the last 2 tracks of Olive, she sounded very nice. Was just getting into it and it she was done.

A bit of a random question, but does anybody know why Samantha Mumba only played for 20 minutes?

It was actually a good set and we were just getting into it then it was over 🤔

Great weekend was had by all, just wondering!

^ She released one album which was 42 minutes long - playing the hits / singles and other than stringing out covers, not much else to be done.
