Is there a chance I might never get offered a position from panel?

    Hi there,

I am on the NSSO panel through Sigmar, which has been in action since I think roughly April 2024 and is running 18 months from that date. I interviewed in July and was placed 31st on the panel in early September.

Someone on here has told me that they are also taking people off the general Clerical Officer panel for the NSSO. I am now thinking that if it's already been this long and seeing how big that panel is, I may never get offered a position. I know it's a shame, having already gone through immense effort to get on the panel itself. I even paid for an interview skills course to increase my chances. I have a friend in the civil service who says they are crying out for staff, which makes me think they have cast this NSSO panel aside.

I am still applying for other jobs in the meantime and doing interviews, also while doing temporary work where I can find it. It would be some comfort to me through the Christmas period to know that I have a good chance of a position in the NSSO in the new year.

Am I being overly pessimistic or realistic in thinking that I might never be offered anything?
