Yeah I agree. Small overspends to get a player in early are not the reason why we're in the situation we're in - it's because we spent stupid money on players that didn't warrant it.

But, unfortunately because of our recklessness in previous windows, our financial situation is very tight and we have less latitude to overspend a little here and there. Other clubs like City have the headroom to do it.

As you allude to, I think our window is very complicated because of the sheer amount of players we're trying to offload or would like to offload (Rashford, Sancho, Garnacho, Antony, Onana, Hojlund). It's a highly unusual position for a club to find itself in.

I'll take Arsenal as an opening fixture. Their first 5 fixtures are worse than ours and Arteta will be under massive pressure to start well. That club and that manager don't handle pressure well, so it'll be interesting to say the least.

Amorim will have the first 10 fixtures to prove himself. He'll have the preseason he wanted, hopefully the players he needs and the deadwood offloaded. That and the all new singing and dancing structures the club have brought to ensure success will give us the best platform to succeed in a decade.

Either that, or we're a busted flush by Christmas and looking for a new saviour by new years.

    Football... It'd test your sanity.

TThere's an international break after the first 3 games which will need to be factored in as well

The issue would appear to be we have 3 players with delusions of grandeur we are trying to shift. Until we offload Sancho, Rashford, and Garnacho I feel our window is completely stalled.

    It sure yes.

But we have beaten City, Arsenal and drawn away Liverpool last season but could not back it up. Funny we do better against better teams.

We got great starts to seasons and flattered afterwards.

Are you saying you have not seen, read, or heard any chatter about needing to get his own players in?

Priorities to upgrade over the summer would have to be 1 - Hojlund, 2 - Onana, 3 - Amorim

Ehm ok .. So our priority is to upgrade the squad and sack the manager? Who's your upgrade for him?

Don't hold your breath for any solutions from the perpetual sack brigade.

Fans pay too much attention to what the start of the season is like, I don’t really buy into these fixture “nightmare” scenarios myself, a lot of is media outlets just trying to generate something to discuss during the summer.

But as you pointed out, I do often pay attention to what December and January holds, because that can provide a slight edge, if things go your way.

The first few weeks is just a lottery regardless of who you play, between late signings, late preseason and everything else. Not everyone is primed and ready to go from the off, like it was maybe 10/15 years ago.

i presume he is talking about nico williams, so rashford may wake up from that dream.

i really dont know where he will end up….i think the teams he will want, wont want him and vice versa.

Barça president Joan Laporta: “We can sign players normally and are in the 1:1. We are about to make an imminent signing and are working on another”.“We currently have a flexible relationship with La Liga, I believe we will be able to announce new signings soon”.

The only good thing Onana will do is persuade Mbeumo to sign for us.

Nick Cox leaving to become technical director at Everton, on top of lawerence leaving at the end of the season. Two big losses in the academy structure.

Will be interesting to see who, and how quickly, we replace them.

We were linked with the academy director from Chelsea not too long ago. Wonder if that will become a reality.

Rashford clearly has poor advisors around him if they really think he's going to Barca.

Does anyone else find it interesting how Chelsea flop Mudryk has been found to have a banned substance taken, with probably 6 or 7 years left on his contract?

They'll be able to sack him now.

If I was a Chelsea player on a long contract and not in the team, I think I'd stay away from the club canteen to be honest.

I don't think he was that much of a flop where they'd be seeking to offload him for nothing to get out of the long contract they had with him (if he hadn't been banned for doping offences).

It's a huge blow for Chelsea - at least £60m of a transfer fee down the drain and maybe more depending how easy the add ons were.

Guardian say we are in for Kudus, that one doesnt make sense to me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,566 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

probably on a lis of alternatives if we don't get Mbeumo.

It makes some sense in terms of the R10 position would be a perfect use of his abilities. Had a good first season, more ineffective last season which would be a red flag, and his price of likely 50m+ doesn't make him a great alternative.

I'd say it is more likely to be agent talk, or United trying to sew some seeds of doubt with Brentford to aid discussions on Mbeumo.

Ah come on if United had signed him he would be considered exactly the same as Antony. I think most people would consider Antony a flop.

Just saying, I wouldn't put much past Chelsea in terms of creative ways to save money.

I remembe reading that Chelse would be able to just write off the debt on him as a bad debt so it wuld be like it never happened from a PSR scenario

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 341 ✭✭17togo

Hhmmmm.... Maybe they could put sancho and Rashford on a "special" lunch menu!? 🤔 😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,566 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

there is no way you could convince anyone that Sancho had deliberately taking anything performance enhancing.

Manchester United are interested in Tolu Arokodare, a striker recommended by scouts and appreciated by Christopher Vivell and Jason Wilcox. [@GraemeBailey]

6'6.....We can use the Zlatan song for him 😅

Feels like a signing you make along side a 'proper' striker, and if we have also sold Hojlund. An interesting signing, but not one i think we could hang our hopes on.

Given the state of us last season, the fact that manager has been there since November and will have had his much vaunted "full pre-season", and the fact we don't have European football next season allowing for more rest compared to the top teams, do you not think we should be primed and ready to go from the off?

I could get losing to Arsenal, City and Chelsea, but if we're heading into 9/10 games on less than 10 points and a minus goal difference, surely there would be no excuse for that?

I want Amorim to succeed, I do. But I want United to succeed first and foremost, and if we're heading towards 8/9/10 with something similar from last season, then he would have to go. If the first 5 games are a disaster, say 1 point and -5 goal difference (and given our form last season under this manager, that's possible), do we need another 5 games to make a call?

It might be the first 5 games are a tough draw, but bar the promoted teams, no team in the Premier League is an easy game. Any group of 5 games is going to have a few tough games in them. And I think having been there since November and having the worse form in living memory since he came in, having a full pre-season, having a few signings and no European football to worry about, I'd be fully expecting Amorim to have them primed and ready from the off. If he doesn't, then it'll be clear that he isn't up to the job, simple as that.

A good start, or at the very least a solid start, is an absolute must. More of the same, and it's Ten Hag Mark II, only without the trophies.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,566 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

Whether you can or should judge him on the first 5 games, the reality is we ended the season with 1 win in 9 (iirc) PL game, the very last one, and lost in a cup final.

If we follow that up with a poor start in the first five games, almost regardless of any context, Amorim will be under huge pressure.

Hell, if we go into the first interenational break off a loss to Arsenal and draws vs Fulham and Burnley, the knives will be out for Amorim. Follow that up aginast Cheslea and City? The writing could be on the wall and death waarrant signed by Liverpool in the 8th game.

Amorim has, imo, zero credit left in the bank with a lot of supporters - he simply has to have the team firing from the off.

They could just selling another car park to themselves to cover it.

@100% Would have to be a cheap signing alongside another.

I read Dortmund and Stuttgart are looking too.
