I think one was used in Afghanistan at some stage. But yes, not really used all that much.

Reports on several sites say that hypersonic missiles have hit sensitive sites in Israel ie. intellegence/satellite bases and Mossad. Is this likely or just bluster. If it's true and they are 'blinded' then the US will be called in to save the day.

Can you dodge the question some more please?

If you were an Iranian with the ability to leave Iran, would you do so or not?

Yes, in 2017, what was at the time the "Mother Of All Bombs" was used against an ISIS-K complex.

A few were used during the Gulf wars to detonate large minefields.

The Israelis have neither confirmed nor denied having nuclear weapons. They have a policy of strategic ambiguity - a policy known in Hebrew as "amimut". They put a greater emphasis on superiority of their conventional forces than NATO ever have. If the Cold War had become hot, NATO would've used tactical nukes to stop the Soviets from getting beyond West Germany - if you believe the plot of the 1983 film "The Day After".

Israel's nuclear weapons are pretty much an open secret. They've had them for decades and more than likely stole the technology off of the US. There's few anywhere around the world who'd say with a straight face that they don't possess them and they come down hard, VERY hard, on those that are open about it. Look at the case of Mordechai Vanunu, an Israeli nuclear technician who was open about Israel's nuclear ambitions. He was arrested by Mossad and spent 18 years in an Israeli prison. Over half of which was in solitary. He is still subject to many restrictions, even though he was released in 2004.

Also, the policy of "strategic ambiguity" is one that was suggested to them by the US. One of the reasons being that under international law selling weapons to a nuclear state is very difficult to do and usually frowned upon.

Article on wall st journal Israel is running out of interceptor missiles the need to end this war soon iran has 1000s of missiles they need the USA to get involved America is the only country with 50ooo bombs that could destroy Iran's underground nuclear base bombs and missiles that Israel does not have access to .

Iran is ruled by religious fanatics they will not stop the war unless there's a peace agreement or they have no choice also some of Iran's missiles are still getting thru . If we go back to world war two. There's no way the Germans could win America has the industrial capacity to produce weapons to a greater extent than any other country Iran will run out of bombs and missiles long before America does

I don't see why Iran having a bomb would be such a catastrophe. NK has had the capability for decades, without major issue. If it's ok for Israel to have them, I fail to see the moral justification that Iran ought not to be able to have their own. Might actually do something to promote peace in the region if Israel was forced to respect someone else.

I get the parity sentiment, but the world really doesn't need more nations with nuclear weapons..be it Iran or anyone else.

Only 9 countries have the capability at the moment. If you add Iran you're increasing the number globally by 11%.

    Interesting quote;

'The Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) reports that the expansion of nuclear arsenals and the number of nuclear-armed states elevate the potential for escalation and accidental use, especially with the ongoing modernization programs and geopolitical tensions.'

"Promote peace in the region" … LOL that's funny. 😁 Oh wait, were you serious? Have a look at the s*** stirring that the Ayatollahs' regime have been doing and tell me how them having nukes would "promote peace." Because I guarantee that "promoting peace" is not what the mullah's are interested in.

While the above may be true, Iran having a nuclear deterrent makes sense for Iran, irrespective of who is in power over there (and I say that as someone who has no truck with the current leaders). However, someone else in the region having a nuclear capability brings a certain balance to the area. Israel has shown itself to be a mad dog, attacking all and sundry and willing to degrade itself to the point of ethnic cleansing an entire people from a region of territory it covets. It currently occupies a lot of land it has no rights to and is intent of occupying more against international law. Quite rightfully, her neighbours are viewing her as volatile, and that's quite an understatement.

Likud led by Bibi arent interested in promoting peace either. By the way you said previously Iran supporting Russia was endangering Europe. What hoop will you jump through to defend Israel doing business with the Russian military. Will you deny it or will you run away as you usually do when you are asked questions you'd rather not answer. With this in mind I am still waiting for you to explain why Russia is committing genocide in Ukraine. I mean to use your own argument it's a poor attempt at genocide given how the nuclear armed Russia could kill far more Ukrainans if it really was intent on committing genocide.

Is this some attempt at a defence of the Ayatollah's regime by whataboutery?

For one thing, there was no Ukrainian equivalent of the 7/October/2023 attacks. Russia was not defending itself against an "Axis of Resistance" the way Israel and the Sunni Islamic countries are. Russia was 100% unprovoked.

But fortunately for Russia, they had the Ayatollahs' regime on hand to provide them with vast quantities of drones, missiles and expertise in same. I highly doubt Israel has been collaborating with Russia to anywhere near the same extent.

I have also read that, but I think that is because they are explicitly designed that way, not because of some intrinsic characteristic. So you could expect a prototype nuclear bomb might not have such protections.

(As I said, I don't think this is a realistic scenario anyway. I do think there might be a risk of radiation leaks if they bomb reactors as part of attacking their nuclear programme.)

Oh and since you accused Israel of helping Russia, I thought it might be a good time to mention that Israel provided a Patriot air defence system to Ukraine (although that's disputed, but it might have gone back to the US and then to Ukraine)

It's believed to be an RA-01 drone, of Israeli manufacture.

Different type of bomb entirely. MOAB is an airburst thermobaric with about 8.5 tons of explosives out of a 10-ton bomb. MOP is 2.5 tons of explosives out of a 13.5 ton bomb, most of the weight goes into the penetration capacity of a thick steel case.

Some big strikes hitting Israel now, including a hospital. A "criminal act" the Israelis say, completely deaf to the irony.

Either way, looks like all out war and I suspect the Iranian regime is finished now

Tulsi Gabbard also said that American intelligence (oxymoron) reports said that Iran aren’t making nukes.

The war hawks argument (that this will be a short war where Israel can achieve their goals in a few weeks without leading to a wider escalation) is based on 2 completely contradictory arguments

    1. That the Iranian regime are so bloodthirsty that they would guarantee their own destruction by destroying Israel the minute they get a nuclear bomb
    2. That they would not dare lash out and attack American or Oil facilities because that would cause others to crack down hard on them

If Iran are so unhinged that they would do an unprovoked nuclear first strike on Israel, then why do the pro-war contingent think they wouldn't try to take out US bases or sink an Aircraft carrier if it looks certain that they're going to lose everything anyway.

The Iranians just need to say it was hiding a mossad bunker underneath it and it will be OK.

And it probably was. Israel have a huge underground tunnel network

(By Israeli logic, every underground bomb shelter is an 'enemy command centre')

The person videoing this this morning better watch out from the Israeli military as the genocidal state has banned coverage of any strikes on Israel being reported

They have not helped Ukraine much if irc. Have been following it for a while as it interested me a fira bit (googled a few of the stories I remembered below) and the Israeli record is not stellar to say the least, especially in context of what they or their arms industry could have done for Ukraine in another, much better, world e.g. if allowed to even sell Ukraine a portion of their outputs or help with weapons development for Ukraine, as we can all see its products are very impressive.

The govt. of Israel prefers to sell these to the dictatorship of Azerbaijan (more money, and won't annoy Putin). Turkey, also a bit of a fence sitter on it despite its own NATO membership, has probably done more overall to help Ukraine IMO.

If IRC the Biden admin. requested for those Patriots (originally theirs) to be sent and it was blocked for a long time I think. Don't think Israel was using them.

Bibi was a friend of Putin and he certainly wasn't going to anger both Putin and MAGA for nothing by giving Biden a big win and providing serious firepower to Ukraine at the time. He's waited till Biden is out of office to do it quiety when his (maybe now former friend after Oct. 7th) Putin/Russia now seems an utterly broken reed in the ME, and less able to do anything to harm Israel in response.

The US requested some even older Cold war era US air defence systems in Israel (Hawk) which are obsolete in context of Israel's Iron Dome, and impressive modern air force be sent and if irc. Israel blocked that too.

    https://www.timesofisrael.com/israel-said-to-rebuff-us-request-for-old-anti-aircraft-missiles-to-give-to-ukraine/

Germany (I think) requested to be able to send spike anti tank missiles which I think development of might have been cofunded with Israel (?) by a few European countries who manufacture and use them, and Israel blocked that as well. As we know Germany doesn't exactly have a load of weapons sitting on the shelf to send Ukraine so inability to send its main modern anti tank weapon must have been a bit of a blow but shure they are Germany and they have to take any and all kickings in the bollox from Israel quietly for ever more due to the history.

    https://www.axios.com/2022/05/25/israel-rejects-spike-missile-ukraine-germany-russia

Also, there is the fact that Israel never sanctioned Russia, and has provided safe haven and escape-port for any money and oligarchs that had to flee Western countries that implemented the economic sanctions. I mean even likes of Switzerland and of course all the EU member neutrals fully implemented these but not Israel, beacon and caped hero of Western Democracy etc. (more like "Homelander" from the Boys in my mind - lol).

I understand and even sympathise with self interested and selfish path they took on Ukraine given Russia's more serious involvment in the ME back in 2022-2023 and possible ability to hurt them badly somehow, but presenting Israel as this great assister of Ukraine and defender of democracy there in your posts is just wrong at best and a lie at worst isn't it?

I am not the person who is seriously saying that everyone in Iran is going to leave the state.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,662 ✭✭✭✭markodaly

A nuclear arms race in the Middle East is not a good idea, no matter who you are.

If Iran gets a bomb, other nations like Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Egypt will want one. Then nations like Qatar, UAE, Bahrain wil want one. It would be a cluster ****.

”And this is the one which troubles me. If your ambitions are entirely peaceful, why are you accumulating a load of Uranium that is at near weapons-grade? Do you need 60 percent enriched to power a reactor? I don't believe you do.”

Reactor fuel is only about 3-4% enriched, and only about 2% of energy contained in that gets released after a year

One only goes above that for bomb production

The waste itself can be reprocessed into likes of plutonium to be used for more weapons
