Dept Q - 9 episodes, detective drama set in Edinburgh.

A nice twist at the end of episode 1 - draws you in. Each episode develops at a reasonable rate and overall, the 9 episodes were long enough - a very good and worthwhile watch.

Netflix sending me notifications now about how I should "replay your favourite moments or watch again from the start " and they suggested....Loverats! Lol

OOh ye I often think of those days watching the Loverats. If only I could relive them but it's not possible...oh what's that i see, a notification interrupting me from life...omg I can relive and I can relive it from the start?" Lol 🙄 thought it was bad when Temu were lovebombing me.

I've consumed every possible bit of media out there about the OceanGate disaster but I'll still give this a watch. Equal parts fascinating and infuriating how one man's ego trip resulted in the loss of 5 lives.

Happy Gilmore 2, with a few familiar golf players. July 25th.

And in November, Guillermo del Toro delivers his take on Frankenstein.

Happy Gilmore 2 looks straight out of the Dumb & Dumber To book of "Hey look, remember those jokes you loved a couple of decades ago? Here they are again, but the actors are just older!"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,027 ✭✭✭budgemook

Yeah, I am dreading it tbh. Dumb and Dumber is my favourite comedy from back then and the sequel almost ruined it - completely ruined Lloyd and some of the backstory! I just try to forget it exists.

Happy Gilmore is probably my second favourite comedy from back then.

Dept Q....now three episodes in...it takes its time but it is really excellent. The cast are really excellent, Kate Dickie is always terrific, Leah Byrne I don't know but she has bags of charisma and does a lot with not a huge roll.

    One thing I would say

Why did it take them so long to look up the bloody logo...the brother was very clear the guy with it on his hat is seriously sketchy...Google lens?

    Keep watching

Pretty sure they initially look at it but dont recognise it properly until someone else sees it later on.

Yeah great series. Main actor was good although I did think someone meaner / tougher looking would have sold the character more.

    "A widow's game" is worth a look.

Spanish drama based on a true story about a murder in Valencia in 2017.

We watched it with the English soundtrack but might be better with the original Spanish and subtitles.

The passengers just took his word for it. They trusted him. They obviously thought he was a professional and knew what he was doing. He must have thought he was invincible, had some delusional 'it won't happen to me' mindset.

IIt creeps you out though that there are all these safety measures and procedures that need to be approved for things but the actual importance of the safety and reason for it gets lost while people are trying to tick off boxes.

Just finished The Madness - solid little job, big bang of Harlen Coben from it and some things were very 'convenient' for want of a better word

    Going to start Sirens now.

You'll see in the documentary though that there was no health/safety standards that were met. They didn't have to because it wasn't technically classified as a commercial dive with paying customers. Instead, the customers were given "jobs" and were technically classed as working crew of a private dive which was far less strict.

Everybody and anybody who knew anything about submersibles reached out to him and warned him not to do repeated dives with the same carbon fibre submersible but he just didn't listen.

I know I'm late to the party but just started 1883, it's brilliant so far.

It's a podcast instead of a documentary, but Swindled did an episode on it that's pretty thorough. Season 8, Episode 120 - it's called The Descent.

Acknowledging that Swindled is very marmite because of it's host - some people love his delivery, some people hate it 🙂

Watched "The Titan Sub Disaster: Minute By Minute" last night. Could only get on Kodi. Channel 5 documentary. 2 episodes.

Pretty good but nowhere near as much detail as the podcast you posted. Enjoying listening to it here now.

I'll still watch the Netflix doc in case there's anything new in it.

3 episodes in and getting better with each one. Love the way it's done so far

Time is contagious, everybody's getting old.

As mentioned above, Dept Q is very good.

Slow paced but engaging, with excellent performances throughout.

Last time I saw Matthew Goode was in The Good Wife 😄

Just finished 1883, it's going to take me about a week to recover😭.

I hope that series won loads of awards.

    Just finished “Mercy for none”.

    Korean gangster limited tv series.

7 episodes of about 45 mins each.

It’s got amazing hand to hand fighting scenes throughout the series, and there are layers of intrigue within the relationships of the bosses, and plenty of plot twists and “reveals” to keep interest going to the end.

Just watched. Really good. Stockton Rush doesn't come out of it well at all.

The cracking sounds picked up by the "safety system" were terrifying as the sub descended. To then disregard that system and leave titan lying on the dock all winter in sub zero temps for water ingress + freezing to weaken the hull further. Complete insanity.

    Trailer again:

This looks like a lot of fun!

Megan Stalter is a real scene stealer in Hacks.

Ooh, thanks for reminding me! It had slipped my mind, will definitely tuck into it tonight.

Watched it last night. It's excellent. Stockton Rush does not come out of it well at all. Very similar personality to Elon Musk it seems. Would make you wonder whats going on at SpaceX tbh.

Just finished 1883. It is a bit slow moving at times, but excellent overall. The final episode is up there amongst the best episodes of tv all time. You do need to have watched a few seasons of Yellowstone to fully appreciate why the home and land means so much to them. Really wonderful tv 1883.
