I want to make sure I have everything right.

I have been considering an attic conversion and I have been told that unless it is done with PP as a bedroom then, should anything happen, if there is evidence that it is being used as a bedroom you are not insured. Is that correct?

Im not following your question. Are you saying that if you have a bedroom in the attic without planning then you aren't covered? You do know that on most occasions the attic conversions are exempt from planning.

You do have to comply with building regulations. Maybe that's what you are referring to.

No that's incorrect. Planning permission has no impact on insurance.

What you are likely thinking of is building regulations. An attic conversion used as a bedroom should met the building regs as a bedroom. If you build it as a floored and lined "store room". It may not be covered.

Financial risk aside, it's crazy that people that this risk with, usually their children's, safety. But it's by a wide margin the norm for an attic conversion.
