But Israel attacked Iran out of the blue on Friday - that's where the major breach of international law took place (not that international law even exists any longer mind you, the two rogue states of the US and Israel decided to end it forever…..we're now in a free for all).

I don't think you are aware of the step-change in tyranny that the Ayatollahs brought. Second only to the Taliban.

Clearly, you have no understanding of the oppression of women in Iran.

So any Middle Eastern country is free to start bombing Tel Aviv this evening if they 'feel' Israel poses a threat to them, correct?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,380 ✭✭✭Suckler

I do. You're just content to use levels of tyranny to be extremely selective.

Your "tyranny" remark shows a real lack of knowledge; you just want us all to focus on the bits you choose.

"If you don't accept that…." is the usual from you. Your selective argument or else it's de facto support for the opposite.

    Nonsense. Revisionist historical nonsense.

Easy to say when you don't understand it.

Higher economic and societal status was based on the religious differences.

Higher economic and societal status was (largely) based on the historical plantations and takeovers etc. But that is not what the Troubles were about.

If you were in any way correct, then poor working class Protestants and small farmer Protestants would all have joined the PIRA. They did not.

Which is why religion was a tool used to sow the distrust and eventual hatred

Which is why religion was a tool used to sow the distrust and eventual hatred

You simply don't understand the history of how it evolved to become violent conflict. It started as civil rights, those in power could see the writing on the wall that would come with having equality. They would lose power and influence.

Reading over a number of threads recently and there are some really sick people on this site. People for whom atrocities are hand waved away because they're carried out by people they find politically favourable.

    Really disturbing.

Let's one realise just how easy it is for tyrants to flourish if there's so many willing to turn a deliberately blind eye.

Do you really think Israel or US cares about women in Iran? Do you think women are happy in Syria, Iraq and Libya that were "liberated"? How about women in Saudi Arabia? Up until recently they weren't even allowed to drive. Maybe Saudi Arabia should be next for liberation.

Agreed. Maybe Saudi Arabia should be next. It is difficult to choose which of them is worse for women - Afghanistan under the Taliban, Iran under the Ayatollahs, Saudi under the Sauds, Gaza under Hamas or one other. Maybe you would pick liberating Gaza from Hamas next.

Some people including myself hate Israel more then the other middle eastern sh*tholes they call countries because Israel pretends to be something they aren't.

A genocidal backwards religious sh*thole full of backward barbarian savages (practically all of the middle east) is not as bad as the one who pretends they are not which is Israel.

Both are as bad as each other.

It started as civil rights, broadly supported, but when the men of evil in the PIRA turned it into a sectarian war, the broad support and any chance of progress was lost. But that is for another thread.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,380 ✭✭✭Suckler

Ah I see you're content (as usual) to append the violence to one side only.

As I said, you simply don't understand it. Nor do you want to.

I’m sure you’re delighted with the ‘regime change’ in Syria where al-qaeda/al-Nusra are now in power after all the atrocities they committed in Europe, Bataclan, Madrid train bombings to name just two. Al Jolani has gone from terrorist to statesman by putting on a suit .. just like that!
If you think western sponsored ‘regime change’ is all about womens rights, LBGT rights and ‘democracy’ you are deluded.

Where did I say western sponsored regime change is all about womens rights??

That's a gross oversimplification and as someone who's life was directly shaped by this happening on their doorstep, offensive to boot.

Well I'm sure glad that Israel are helping to stop that brand of Islamic extremism from spreading to Europe by decapitating and incinerating children in Gaza. I mean its best to stop it at source right.

The US and the UK have thoroughly made a complete **** up of the Middle East. They overthrew a democratically elected PM in '53 and paved the way for the Islamic Republic all cause they wanted their oil. Benjamin Milejkowski has been calling for regime change there for 40 years. Have they had one successful regime for the people who live there as opposed to the powers that be?

Reminds me of the meme, if you ever want to feel useless, just remember it took the USA 4 presidents, thousands of lives, trillions of dollars and 20 years to replace the Taliban with the Taliban…

With two lunatics in the form of Netanyahu and Trump, it's anyone's guess where this is going.

I see Katz has warned The Ayatollah that he could share the same fate as Saddam did for opposing Israel. Is he implying the Iraq War was really for Israel? We know that was all based on lies. You would think some posters who believed those lies should at the very least have some skepticism this time around but instead they are happy to believe a proven habitual liar in Bibi. The very same man who was happy to pedal the WMD guff about Iraq being a imminent threat to Israel and the world.

Trump seems to be firmly in the Israeli camp:

Donald Trump says the US knows where Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei is "hiding".

("We know exactly where the so-called 'Supreme Leader' is hiding," the US president's latest post says. )

The president called him an "easy target" but said the US would not kill him - "at least not for now".

"Our patience is wearing thin," he wrote in a series of posts on Truth Social

The whole thing is nuts though. Looks like Netanyahu is pulling Trump's strings and telling him what to do. Relations between the US and Iran were okay last week and it seemed like the nuclear talks were going quite well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,533 ✭✭✭combat14

now JD rows in - looking like it is t'ing up US involvement

Donald Trump may decide he needs to take further action to end Iran's nuclear enrichment efforts, JD Vance says.

The US president has said he wants to see a "real end" to the Israel-Iran conflict but also warned that if US troops were harmed by Tehran, then the "gloves are off".

Show me where I said I support those things.

Israel is committing atrocities in Gaza.

The Iranian regime is also committing atrocities.

However, if the Iranian regime didn't encircle and threaten Israel with well funded and trained terrorist groups, then Israel wouldn't be committing atrocities… because those terrorist groups wouldn't be hiding amoung innocent civilians, nor would Israel feel like their back is up against the wall.

It is a very ugly, complex situation, one which we here in a safe country can not envision... it is so far removed from our daily experience of what life is like. The leaders of one of the major powers in the region calls for the ethnic cleansing of the Jewish people, and constantly provokes Israel.

The Israeli regime are committing atrocities in Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon and Iran

The Iranian regime are committing atrocites in Israel

However, if the Israeli regime didn't attack all their neighbours….

Well the Iranian regime was messing around in post war Iraq and helped add to the body count, they are also meddling in Yemen. They may not be directly attacking other countries, but they have added to the misery that is the current middle east.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 339 ✭✭2Greyfoxes

Places where the terrorist groups funded and trained by the Iranian regime reside.

If the Arabs stopped attacking Israel, Israel wouldn't retaliate. If Israel stopped retaliationg, there would be no Israel.

Again, those terrorist groups use the populations of those countries as human shields, so they can weaponise the human catastrophe. Remember how Hamas suddenly found their uniforms during the hostage exchange. Yeah, so they could distinguish themselves from the everyday Palestinian, but that would lose them their most crucial weapon against Israel, appeal to emotional outrage.
