Surely the scouts can uncover some of the next upcoming strikers. Get one decent prem proven like Mateta and 2 cheaper ones with huge potential. Would the the same price as Gokyeres

Whoever the scout was that found chicarito Hernandez needs to be located 😂

Just the 137 goals in the last 4 seasons for his clubs and and 15 in 26 games for Sweden.......

Did you really just ask me that 😂

Didn't he score 50 or 60 of them last season? Meaning in the other 3 he scored 60 or so, would that be right? I thought his 20 penalties was enough to dent his stats last season but that would be arguably even worse 😂

I like him, but I wouldn't pay the money for him and feel is a little on the slow side for the premier league too if I'm honest. Probably just on the other side of worth it for me. We don't need a superstar anyway, just a functional striker. A Giroud type would do just fine for now and give Hojlund the year to either resurge or cement his place as not up to the mark. There is a player in there, the risk of brining him in at 20/21 on the back of not very much to lead the line at a big cost in a dysfunctional attack was always there that it would crush him and it probably has, but **** it, doesn't look like he'd be able to be moved on this year so get him some cover and see if he can surprise.

97 in the last 2 season, the rest the other 2 seasons.

    Its better than Ekitike.

I'd expect it would be yeah even without one being in their prime and one still learning. Wouldn't pay the money for him either for the record, hilarious fee. Didn't they complete his transfer from PSG last season for about 16 million like?

Oh of course yeh they arent my first choice but Id rather take a chance on a more experienced player.

He was playing in the Championship at 25. Ekitike is on of the best strikers in the Bundesliga at 22. Bit of a difference. There is a reason Ekitike is worth 80+ mil

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,237 ✭✭✭Iseedeadpixels

Vardy was even older and look at him, at least Gyokeres has English experience.

Both aren't my first choice I'd rather prem proven.

Only thing that gives me hope for Ekitike is he knows the system and Liverpool are sniffing around....They tend to get it right.

I'm hoping the €80m can be negotiated.

ekiteke last season npxg was -5.3 That's crazy bad finishing and has had a number of - seasons already. Where Gyrokes has just had two 5+ and positive in his last 3. I know who id prefer anyways.

Regardless of Ekitike or Mateta I'd be happy if we had Vardy already signed on, would be an immediate improvement.

Yes we can and should get a better striker to actually be first choice but Vardy would already be an upgrade, same way I think we should be all over Kepa's 5m release clause. Yes we could do better for a starter but Vardy and Kepa would both then be excellent back-ups for when we do upgrade GK and Striker.

do we really want £70m for garnacho? i think £50m is the absolute max we would get, and thats stretching it.

i suppose its good he's on £50k per week.

Just another reason Mainoo should be told jog on looking for 180k a week. If he doesn't work out, it'll be impossible to move him on in a year or two.

Comparing two different contract stages though.

Garnacho on 50k was his first 'proper' contract.
Mainoo on 30k was his first 'proper' contract.

We are now discussing the second contract for Mainoo, which is generally the first really big one for a player. I think 180k is too much for him, I think he should be on similar money to Amad or Yoro.

If we were discussing a second proper contract with Garnacho, we would similarly be dicussing 150k as his demand. Garnahco is on relatively little (at United) given his importance to the side over the last 2 seasons. I would think if we had kept EtH or we had gone with a 433 manager we probably would be talking 150k+ for him right now - and he might still be looking to leave as he has been doing for the last 12 months.

I doubt we are in for Ekitike due to the prices being mentioned for him. I have no doubt we maintain an interest - we have been interested in him since before his time at PSG, but I can't imagine we would stump anything like the money being mentioned for him. He needs at least another good season to prove himself, and the question marks over his time at PSG would still hang over him right now. Though PSG are a little hard to judge, and it all simply might have been too soon for him - but there were a lot of stories, fairly quickly, that they were not happy with his attitude.

On the other hand, if you are looking at strikers around the 22/23/24 range, he is probably one of the most well thought of - and IF you have signed Cunha and Mbeumo, then arguably we need to be looking at a younger player to balance the age profiles in attack - ideally Hojlund would be that guy, but we really can't rely on that now. If you sign Osimhen or Gyokeres, then your window for you first choice attackers is in the next 3 years; not the best way to build a title challanging squad unless you think you make that jump by the end of 26/27.

But I just dont think the club could take the risk on Ekitike for the money. Another club might take that risk and be massively rewarded for it, but it is a tough ask for United and where we are at.

He started a euros final at 19 and has at times been considered one of the best young players in world football.

His management team and other clubs will put his recent struggles down to a combination of injury, United being poor and a manager formation not suiting him.

Someone will give him a massive contract. United need to decide if it’s going to be them or let him go. People saying to give him €80k a week of whatever are living in fantasy land.

Lads we shouldn't be looking anywhere near Vardy, he's 38 and done. It would actually be embarrassing for us to sign him as a bench option even. I'm onboard with Ekiteke if that's the preferred ST it just galls me that we could have signed him for a 3rd of the alleged price last year when PSG offered him around 😂

As previously mentioned by someone I think El Neysri would be a good option as a 2nd striker and using Bayindir could be an option in any deal. Vlahovic on loan could be an option but id be more in favour of doing something along those lines for Douglas Luiz

    As per Simon Stone

There are a lot of rumours and counter rumours but I am not getting the impression Manchester United are concerned about their attempt to sign Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford falling through.

Tottenham are keen on Mbeumo, who spoke to Sky Sports yesterday from the pit lane ahead of the F1 race in Montreal.

Mbeumo made it clear he did not want to talk about his future but did say he wished his old boss Thomas Frank good luck at Tottenham.

That could be interpreted in many ways - but mainly shows Mbeumo is on holiday and no deal around him is likely to be done in the near future.

United are looking to beef up their forward line, and have been linked with a number of centre forwards, although Rasmus Hojlund said on international duty recently that he wants to stay with the Old Trafford club.

Everything indicates we have personal terms agreed.

The issue is agreeing the trasfer fee/payments/structure with Brentford. We don't need Mbeumo to be in the country for that. We can agree a deal pending personal terms (likely done) and medical. An EXTREMELY common thing.

It is frustrating that ~2 weeks after he made his preference know and what 10 days or so since our first bid was rejected that we are seeing no movement and simply talk United are relaxed. Get it done, it should not take this long to agree a deal unless there is a real danger we are not going to be able to do so.

Perhaps Brentford needing a new manager is taking priority for them?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,275 ✭✭✭davemckenna25

So, do you think we should just pay what Brentford want for him or do we try to get him at a reasonable price.

Because if you think we should have it done by now, then you think we should just pay what they want!

Just because you don't hear anything in the media, doesn't mean nothing is happening.

You also have to take into consideration that a lot of the people involved in transfers could very well be on holidays etc. I’d say we will start to hear more next week.

I’m not worried about Mbuemo. If he has his heart see on us then I think we’ll get it done. If not, then move on to the next target.
