live nation revenue in USA for 2025 was $25 billion.
even a billion dollar fine will have no discernible impact to them. They will just recoup it from the fans.

Live nation will still control those 100 plus venues across America including exclusive arrangements for all those massive arenas and stadiums. Big artist will have to go through live nation.

They will still get worldwide deals with artists to cover usa, europe, Oz etc
Ticketmaster will still have exclusivity deals with all major venues/stadiums as well.

the truth is no other ticketing operator will be able to compete. TM have all major venues stitched up and has billions to offer attractive rebate schemes to artists/promoters/venues.

Only a year late, hopefully no face punching related cancellations this time.

You believe the fine will be as low as $1 billion? I'd suggest getting a new source of information. For starters they'll be paying $1m for every breach of the anti-retaliation clause in the DoJ 2010 consent decree where they were prevented from threatening any venue selling via other outlets. There are (at minimum) thousands of such instances. It's the biggest anti-trust case in music industry history and the fines could be matched by a parallel (or later) EU case.

And TM have the venues 'stitched up'? Have you no grasp that this is entirely what the case is about and that this will not continue? What did you believe the case entailed?

They will be forced to sell off some (many?) of those venues and you have to assume there are buyers waiting in the wings for the finale of this case. Possibly all of the venues complicit in anti-trust activities. Thus the vast majority.

The exclusivity deals will not continue as usual due to the anti-retaliation clause. That will be retrospectively enforced (as above) and stringently adhered to in the future. The venues will be given the option of selling via several operators and there's sod all TM will be able to do about that. They'll need to approach these venues with better deals.

Swallowing the LN/TM line wholesale is a little naive at best. If both you, and they, are burying your collective heads in the sand then there's a rude awakening coming. US (& EU) courts don't go easy with fines, punishments and future restrictions. Read Billboard, the WSJ, NYT and WP for a clearer idea of how bad it'll actually be.

if you think the trump administration is going to fine a corporation billions on anti trust you are away with the faeries.
The us government is not going to destroy Live nation by getting them to divest from all their venues or cancel their lease agreements with major stadiums or arenas.
live doesn’t even own the majority of big venues, it’s football or basketball teams.
even if venues have the option to sell through many ticketing partners there is many reasons why they will stick with TM for majority of their sales. TM offers great rebates and is a known “reliable” operator.

Merrick Garland who brought the case says he aim/goal is to split the companies. That’s the height of what will happen, add in a fine which isn’t massive given Live nation revenue.

Why would Trump have anything to do with fining LN/TM? It's a judicial matter and is long out of the hands of a federal ex-AG.

It's a DoJ case in the NY District Court joined in by 29 state attorney-generals.

and who is head of DOJ - Pam bondi one of trump main acolytes. The DOJ will be ones who ultimately decide on the settlement for this case.

So, in terms of governance, you don't understand separation of powers? Trump will have absolutely nothing to do with the court's decision and it's astonishing that you'd even think that.

    Again, head in the sand.

Yes, having similar issue for Oasis in Cardiff. Put them up 2 days ago and no sign of them. Also, I'd be happy to sell at face value to get my money back quickly. Judging by tickets seated near mine, TM are going to add £400 to the price making a bit less likely they sell. Bloody hate that company

I thought the price was whatever the seller wants to sell at? Didn't realise TM could add to it. Who gets this additional cost, presumably TM

No option to dictate price unfortunately, it says "the price will be slightly higher to cover ticketmaster's charges", you'd expect 2/3% not 500%

Trump is strongly anti regulation, in direct contrast to the Democrats.

He is also in bed with the Saudis who had a big share in Livenation untill recently.

Its a dirty business and Livenation are rotten to the core, they have their tentacles and lobbyists in so many areas of influence.

Id like to see Livenation broken up but I dont think it will happen.

Ticketmaster take a chunk from both buyer and seller, if you buy a hundred euro ticket and try to sell it for 100, you get a notice saying you'll only get eg:89 and if you want the full 100 you have to charge eg:113. They then base the sellers service fee on that price......

Probably out of his hands now. If the DoJ pull out that still leaves the Attorney-Generals of 29 states to continue on with the case.

I presumed the charges was just the usual they are unreal. I have seen resale as higher than TM prices and thought is that not just touting maybe it is TM price

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 2,329 ✭✭✭Mucker46

I put a ticket up for 40 previously, less than normal price, and ticketmaster sent me 40. Price to buyer was higher due to TM charges

it’s the vat element, so either seller gets its net of vat or vat passes onto buyer who pays €100 plus vat

All in response to an article posted by @Stillill42. This could be the most significant development of our gig-going lifetimes. We've consistently, and pretty unanimously, complained here about the costs associated with seeing bands. There are changes afoot, whether good or bad, and I believe it's up for discussion here. Any dismantling of the assets of LN and TM is going to create openings that will hopefully benefit us. After circa five years of egregious profiteering we surely deserve some good news.

Ya, I had been doing same. But some accounts can be hacked, making it look like they are members for a long time, and have positive feedback. I got stung for €100 few weeks back. Everything seems legit. I'll be very careful in the future when using Adverts.ie - will look to meet up if possible, or to have a phone call before transferring any money. I will know then if it is legit or not.

Folks there is a separate Ticketmaster-related thread, all the discussion about that company should really be put there.

I was on Toutless earlier and there's lots of interest in them, if you post there someone will take them gladly

Still nothing on Lana Del Rey support (for Dublin or the UK/I tour) which doesn't sound right to me. She was supposed to have an album out that was delayed and don't think there's a new date for it so maybe she's scrapped it.

No concrete reason to think it will be cancelled or postponed but wonder if it will be as it's then gonna be pretty much same tour as last year that she also performed in UK/I…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 1,369 ✭✭✭Shakyfan

That's bollocks! You can ask for a maximum of what you paid including fees. And that's what you get! Ticketmaster will add on their fees which is where the person buying the resale tickets gets fleeced because TM seem to add on excessive fees.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,062 ✭✭✭Fanirish

2 -1 weeks before for local supports seems about right. I’m sure something will get announced in next few days.
Would be only expecting locals supports not anyone big.
albums delays always happen, she never announced a release date
