He just tries to hit as hard as he can with his body. Use his power. 30 years ago no one would even mention one of those tackles.

The game has gone very non contact now, you could go a full game without a proper shoulder. And if there is it has a good chance of being blown up as a free.

Big powerful men like Murphy should be using their strength for their advantage. When I think back to how much softening up Brian Mullins, Gerry McEntee etc got through in a game.

Possibly the fastest transitioning team in the country.

    Slow?

    Predictable?

Meath are getting better and better. People don't seem to realise Meath are one of youngest teams in country, if not youngest team in the country. The age of this Meath team leaving Menton and Keoghan to one side. It's the youngest Meath team of last 50 years. The Captain is 21 and vice captain is 21.

    Hogan 22, O Halloran 21, Coffey 22, Caulfield 21, Gray 21, Kinlough 20, Duke 20, Frayne 21, Curtis 23, Flynn 24, Morris 24, Walsh 25, Costello 25, O' Neill 23, Moriarty 22, Brennan 22.

This means they are improving. They are only year and half together. The players only came on panel at end of Tailtean cup campaign in 2023, rest in 2024. While players like Conor Duke are only on panel this year. You look at the Dublin game and compare to the kerry game. They improved on the Dublin performance. Since leinster final they have got better and better. Listen they could struggle in q final v Donegal or v Dubs looking for revenge. But in 2 or 3 years time when Frayne Caulfield Duke kinselka is 23 24 and Costello Morris Flynn 26 27. Meath should have serious team. And currenty they are developing into serious team. Meath team that lost to louth in league this year compared to quality of football they played v kerry yesterday is like completey different team, its like chalk and cheese.

And Meath still have talent to come through from All Ireland winning and leinster underage winning teams huge prospects like Brian Stafford nephew Rian Stafford who at 19 hit 16 pts at club match last weekend. But currently this Meath team have played some brillant football all year, cleaning teams out at midfield and kicking 2 pointers for fun against Roscommon, Cavan, Down, Cork, Carlow, Offaly, Dublin, kerry. Even in first half of leinster final they were blowing Louth away only for louths goals.

Look at what Meath have done this year. Yes no trophies but significant eye catching results

Meath are first team to beat Dublin in leinster championship in 15 years

Yesterday they gave kerrys worst defeat in championship in 24 years. A defeat that is in top 5 defeats kerry have suffered in championship in the last 70 years.

Kerrys worst defeat in championship since 1950

    1 Meath 2001 15 pts

    2 Cork 1990 15 pts

    3 Cork 1971 11 pts

    4 Meath 2025 9 pts

    5 Offaly 1972 9 pts

    6 Cork 1973 9 pts

    7 Down 1960 8 pts

it's actually kerrys 5th worst defeat in championship against team outsude Munster ever. Kerry 5th worst defeat in championship outside Munster teams in last 140 years

Here are kerrys 10 worst defeats in championship ever to teams outside Munster

    1 Meath 2001 15 pts

    2 Antrim 1912 12 pts

    3 Dublin 1934 11 pts

    4 Mayo 1948 10 pts

    5 Meath 2025 9 pts

    6 Offaly 1972 9 pts

    7 Down 1960 8 pts

    8 Down 1991 7 pts

    9 Dublin 1976 7 pts

    10 Dublin 2013 7 pts

    11 Tyrone 2003 7 pts

Meath are first team to beat kerry and Dublin in same championship in 18 years since Tyrone did this in 2008

Meath are only 5th leinster team to beat kerry and Dublin in same championship and 9th team in history to beat kerry & Dubs in same championship in same year.

Meath are now youngest team in GAA history to beat kerry and Dublin in same championship.

Meath have scored the most 2 pointers in the championship so far. Meath are eitheir 2nd highest scorers of 2 pointers are top highest scorers of 2 pointers in the championship.

They wouldn't win a trophy this year, but they are a team with real potential. And a dangerous opponent for any team in the quarter final. In my view some of these young Meath footballers are as good as footballers ever to come out of Meath. For me Ciaran Caulfield at 21 is the best wing back I have ever seen play for Meath in terms ability. Jordan Morris is a better corner forward than Ollie Murphy was at 24. Matthew Costello in my view is right up there with Graham Geraghty in terms of ability and could up end better player than Geraghty. They could struggle in quarter final v Donegal r Dubs looking for revenge. They are very young and very inexperienced. But if they play like they did against kerry yesterday, they will beat any team in country. The Sunday Game clearly didn't watch the match. It was all Meath worked hard from pundits. Yes Meath did, but quality of football Meath played v kerry was brillant. The kick passing, the skill, control, movement, the 2 pointers were all outstanding. Absolute top notch long range point scoring. Yesterday was Meaths best performance of the year and it was against the bookies favourite for the All Ireland. Meath are improving game after game.

He is, but he is not incorrect, and in fairness to Silke007 he was predicting this for the 12 months on the Meath thread, and again he was correct.

Why can't rte ever show some respect to people and just do the fcking draw on time at 8:30?

Always late by about ten or fifteen minutes.

Why isn't it on Sunday evening?

Biased opinion but from the replay behind the goal the ball looks to be rising. Don't know why he didn't just use his foot, any touch on it and it was in off him or the two Monaghan players to his right.
Don't think Monaghan would have been beaten yesterday and were way and far the stronger team finishing.

    Donegal v Louth

    Down v Galway

    Dublin v Cork

    Kerry v Cavan

Down V Galway would be the only one in doubt based on form.

Hoping for Kerry Galway as a game with real jeopardy. Hard to see any upsets here. Down only likely upset.

Meath beat Dublin not so long ago and Cork took Kerry to extra time. Yes Dublin favourites but not overwhelmingly so. Think Cork would much prefer this draw than going to Ballybofey anyway.

A lot of my Donegal friends were hoping the Cork bus would be heading their way, but they'll be more than happy with Louth.

If Donegal, Dublin, Galway and Kerry win:

Depending on the interpretation of the proviso about "where possible", that would mean that Armagh can only play Kerry in the QF's? They played Donegal in the Ulster Final and Dublin and Galway in their group.

"Quarter-Finals 28-29.06.2025 (Sat/Sun) The four first-place teams from Round 1 (Group Stage) shall be drawn to play against the four Preliminary Quarter-Finals winners, subject in the first instance to the avoidance of repeat Provincial Final pairings and where possible repeat pairings from Round 1 (GroupStage)."

I think so - possible opponents I believe:

    Kerry : Armagh.

    Donegal : Meath, Monaghan.

    Dublin : Meath, Monaghan, Tyrone.

    Galway: Meath, Monaghan, Tyrone.

So two of Dublin, Galway, Kerry, Armagh or Tyrone will fall at the QF stage if my understanding is correct. Also, given that next week goes as expected.

I looked at the betting before the draw this morning, and at 9:30.

    Paddy Power: Armagh 3/1. Donegal & Kerry 4/1. Dublin 5/1. Tyrone 6/1. Galway 7/1. Monaghan 18/1. Meath 22/1. Cork & Down 50/1. Louth 70/1. Cavan 90/1. Nothing changed.

    Boyles: Armagh 3/1. Kerry 7/2. Donegal 9/2. Dublin & Galway 6/1 (Galway was 7/1). Tyrone 13/2. Monaghan 16/1. Meath 28/1. Cork & Down 66/1. Cavan & Louth 150/1 (Cavan was 100/1).

yeah looks like it has to be Armagh-Kerry if the expected teams win, can’t see how the other 6 teams can’t be fixed to play within the stated rules. A few upsets would suit Kerry.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,303 ✭✭✭overshoot

think you’re right, and Donegal can only play Meath or Monaghan. Already played Monaghan but back in Ulster/not a final

Which means one of dublin/galway v tyrone

I bet you Meath won't go beyond the quarter final stage in 2025.

Cork have no chance next week. Only beaten them twice in championship.

If it was at home we might have had squeaky chance.

    No chance in Croker

Galway and Kerry lucked out in the draw... They drew the weakest team from the other pot.

Don't see any surprises, just maybe Down at home could turn over Galway, but the other three games look nailed on.
