In the case of older " Wincor Nixdorf " ATMs you will need to add on an additional TWO MINUTES

The people at the coffee machine in service stations.

Make the actual drink, but don't move to the side, instead proceed as follows:

    • Add a drop of milk, give it bit of a stir.
    • Open a sugar, give it bit of a longer stir.
    • Take a quick sip.
    • Add another drop of milk, and another stir.
    • Think for a second.
    • Decide maybe another sugar.
    • Then a good long stir.
    • Now for the lid. Which size? Pick the wrong one first, then get it right.
    • Secure and take a sip. All good?

Step back from the machine and let the person behind get their coffee.

A woman of that age actually skipped me in the queue once in Lidl, I said nothing because I thought she must have been in front of me and I hadn't noticed but the guy working the till said did she just skip the queue? unreal.

I think some of these get more entitled the older they get. Never worked outside the home, ruled the roost there, and their word was law. Bring the same attitudes to the outside world.

This is a pure pain. I’ll go into the supermarket to pick up one or two things and I’ll know before hand exactly what I’m getting and where it is in the shop. Every time without fail there’ll be someone with a trolley having a “does not compute” moment staring into the shelf or a fridge for ages like they’ve never seen a carton of milk before in their lives.

How slow people are at self service machines is another bug bear. How does it take you 8 calendar years to order a Big Mac on the machine? you can almost see the buffering sign over their heads.

As well as the damage that will be caused to a pavement not designed for heavy vehicular traffic to move or park on it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,397 ✭✭✭✭pgj2015

No is a word they hate. I deal with them in business, they will insult you and fight with you if you cant give them what they want. Not all of them but the ones who as you say are used to being the boss at home.

I always give them a minute or 2, it's a country road not a motorway, it could be someone having a chat that hasn't met anyone in a day or 2 and wants a little human interaction or 2 farmers trying to organise a man to stand in a gap or move a few bales. It's nice to see a slower pace of life in country areas and not be rushing around like worker bees

I might be missing something here. If you are walking your dog do you expect me to move to the other side of the footpath to avoid inconveniencing you?

    Well, yes and no.

Of course it's irritating when you want to get in and out asap, but I'm of an age to remember when there were two people at every checkout desk, one to put your stuff through and another to pack it for you. So now we pay to do that work ourselves - and the people behind get cross if someone is a bit slow or confused. And more of the already rare jobs that don't require specialist training are removed from the economy forever. Mostly to the loss of students and mothers who aren't available for a high-skilled specialised job that requires her to be available full time.

More generally, I have to say all this blaming of older and infirm individuals for not being very effective at carrying out services that shops could perfectly well provide for us if they weren't so determined to screw the consumer out of every single penny gets on my nerves.

I have a dog and I wouldn't have thought of that either, except when I have my own dog with me, in which case I do take care. Just in case the two dogs take a dislike to each other.

Concerning pedestrians though, IMO it's up to the owner to train the dog not to react to people just walking past calmly.

(And I know some dogs are reactive, but I still think it's up to the owner to adapt to that and act accordingly - not to blame the rest of the world for not knowing it.)

Not so much inconveniencing me, it's just good situational awareness and anticipation. I always pass someone on the no-dog side even if it means changing sides.

I’ve dealt with them too over the years and my daughter who has a part time job in retail says the same. I’ve a neighbour of the same vintage who has been horrible to people who say no to her.

I think it's always been like this but as more people communicate over sm we start to realise we're not the only one putting up with the gormless 🙄

BBlocking doors, stairs, staring at oriduce as though never seen before,,realising they have to pay after putting away the messages in alphabetical order🥺😁

The ones with the full trolley in lidls who have to organise their shopping into separate bags to convenience unpacking at home. Yes I know it suits do many and the unfortunate shop assistant is too afraid to say anybut hardly fair on others.

I could go on, but am currethrowing the ball for my spaniel in our garden and this post will only rise my blood oressure😉😁😁

I hate that. The escalators are so painfully slow too. It feels like you're on it for an eternity.

Noticed in holidays recently that tourists particularly Asians stop anywhere, in a door entrance, on top of steps and, end of a stairs, often in a dangerous spot and start posing for photos with their latest iPhone or fancy camera.

Also when waiting for a bus, you see some old biddy start rooting through her bag for coins when she gets on the bus to pay, despite waiting the last 10 minutes for the bus, she then holds up everyone behind her as well as the poor driver.

Also when the plane lands, there's these people who delay everyone else because they're not ready to get off the plane when the plane door opens, they start fannying about then to get their crap together, when they could of done that the previous 15 minutes.

Lastly, when going through security, have your stuff ready, liquids ready, belt ready to take off, stuff out of your pockets, and don't act like this is all a surprise.

I queued for a coffee a while ago. Guy in front of me arrives at the counter and starts pondering on what pastry and coffee he wants.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,991 ✭✭✭✭volchitsa

    So?

Maybe they should change the system of payment, or just have more people behind the counter, if it's really that much of a problem for someone who maybe hasn't been there before and doesn't know exactly what's available?

The other day I was buying petrol at a motorway service station where they've changed the system since I was last there: now you prepay for your petrol and then go back and serve yourself. Grandd, except that it was the same queue where people were ordering coffees, pastries etc, and it was clearly breakfast time - there were at least 6 of them. All I wanted to do was hand my card over and get back to the petrol pump: 10 seconds? It was so ridiculous I wondered if I'd misunderstood what I was meant to do, but no, that was it.

Still. I didn't blame the people in front of me. They're entitled to order their breakfasts.

It should be socially acceptable to boot people like this up the hole.

It is socially acceptable, it's just not legal😅

People who show up at a railway station, maybe half an hour ahead, faff about, buy a coffee, have the earphones on or face buried in their phone...then realising they have seconds to catch their train, make a bolt for the barriers only to miss their train.

Of course it's the station staff's fault they missed it and proceed to give them dogs abuse.

This won’t go down well but it’s practically always older women that do these things, rarely young people or men.

People parking right up next to your car and then dinging your door as they try to squeeze themselves out of the tiny space they've created. And there could be 50 other free spaces in the carpark.

Your example is completely different to mine. Of course you can't simply skip the queue because you're getting petrol and others are getting food when there's one queue.

Taking my example, I think it’s more practical to decide what you want before reaching the counter while waiting in the queue. It makes life easier for the server and for those waiting behind you. As I said, it doesn’t enrage me, it’s just inconsiderate. But of course, being inconsiderate or rude isn’t illegal.

Very very common for men of all ages to block traffic whilst having a chat, not taking off when the lights are green, parking badly etc… most of my opening posts examples were actually men.

This is the dog walkers fault, always walk with the dog on the inside of the path, and if you have to, let the dog in front of you so both of you are on the inside of the path.
