trim door height

Looking to fit a new back door. Door is just 75 inches tall so will need to trim any standard door. Would it be ok to take 3 inches off this door? Presumably I would take 1.5 off the top and bottom. Just wondering would it damage the structure of the door doing this? Thanks.

You might get away with it. You need to check how the bottom rail is attached how thick it is and where it is. If you are lucky it will be something like this door https://wiki.diyfaq.org.uk/index.php/Making_a_framed_ledge_and_brace_door in which case you can take it all off the bottom.

In that case I would take more off the bottom so the bottom and top rails end up about the same size. Maybe 1 inch off the top and 2 off the bottom. You also need to think about how it will look with a thinner top rail from the front.
