We did overpay a bit for MU for sure but overpaying by €10m or thereabouts is not what I'd consider being ridden. Antonys transfer automatically springs to mind when I think of that. That was a proper saddle and whip job🤣🤣🤣

We have a lot of players we plan to definitely sell. Rashford, Antony, Sancho and Garnacho are definites that we want to sell. We would offload Casemiro if we could, and also Maguire imo.

It'd be nice if we could get some movement on some of these players sooner rather than later so we can get some certainty for our transfer budget.

It's highly unusual that a club tries to offload so many high priced assets in one go, but it speaks to the extent of mismanagement at the club prior to INEOS.

To be fair to INEOS, I don't see many of their signings being anywhere near as poor as the previous regime and they have a massive mess to clear up.

The INEOS signings to date have roughly retained their valuations and haven't dropped like a stone, so even if you wanted to sell a couple of them you wouldn't be making a huge loss. This is critical and a point the casual fan overlooks imo.

I think it’s too early to say on INEOS signings, certainly too early for credit. It usually takes time for a flop to become clear. New signing optimism holds for a while with most.

I’d be willing to call Ugarte as a flop at this stage.
Zirzkee and Dorgu are flashing Amber.

De Ligt some seem to fancy as solid but I would wager will be one of the players fans will be most calling out as needing replacing next year.

Mazroui looks a solid signing but not much more.

Yoro and Heaven (given his fee) the only ones I’d confidently call a good acquisition at this stage.

I wouldn't think Ugarte has been anywhere near bad enough to call a flop. but I am higher on him than others.
I think MDL will be a solid signing, not the elite CB people thought he would become 4 years ago.
Zirkzee and Dorgu will be good squad players at worst - which would save them from being flops.
Mazraoui, solid player. 15million. absolutely not a flop. Will be impossibly for him to be a flop at this point, imo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,666 ✭✭✭DataDude

I think Ugarte not making the spurs game despite us having one of the weakest midfields in the league says it all about what Amorim thinks of him. He will be moved on (at a hefty loss) as soon as a replacement can be found/afforded.

Dorgu at €35m is approach top 10 most expensive LBs of all time. A squad player is absolutely not a good outcome here. Early days but underwhelming would be kind.

Zirkzee at €42m granted is not too expensive these days for a striker, but he was also booed off the field at OT within about 5 games which I genuinely thought impossible. He’s shown some improvement but I suspect the club would snap your hand off to send him back to Italy for €30m. He could become something, but it’s hardly a dead cert.

    Agree on Mazroui

While I really like Mainoo, it's clear the coach has big doubts about him in a 3-4-3.

He lacks pace and doesn't quite have the athleticism you would like from the CMs in this system. And as you say, the defensive side of his game has some room for improvement.

My fear is we could see him moved out this summer which long-term would be a real mistake imo.

Some of the other posts here suggesting Ugarte is a flop seem very premature to me. I would say he had a "mixed" season. Room for improvement, yes, but hardly a flop.

Good No.6's are hard to come by and his fee wasn't in the crazy Antony/Hojlund bracket.

arsenal moving on gyokeres. the only real chance we had was to move quickly or to have a (relatively) free run at him.

Nuno Farinha, CNN commentator, released exclusive information from CNN Portugal , and states that Gyökeres' agent met with Arsenal's owners this Wednesday to expedite a transfer to the English club.

The commentator also mentions that the " gunners " have always been the preference of Sporting's Swedish forward.

I would suggest we already have Goykeres. Wouldn't worry about Arsenal.

Why do you think that? If given the choice at this moment in time Arsenal are a better team/club.

I'd be hoping it's tactics to sway RB Leipzig to accept their Sesko bid. It's only been leaked this morning that similar to Lisbon they want a high fee

Amorim mainly. We want a striker. Probably been agreed ages ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,953 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

I would normally have said that because of the relationship between Amorim & Gyokeres, it would be known long ago by the club whether this was likely to happen or not.

But the again I thought the same about ETH & De Jong but we saw the saga that turned into.

Hopefully he goes to Arsenal, I just think hes not as good as we think he is. Would much rather Osimhen or Ekitike ( prob 20m more but 5 years younger )

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,350 ✭✭✭FrankN1

Definitely don't want Osimhen. Seems like he just wants a load of cash and doesn't seem like he has a good attitude.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,953 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

Keep hearing the attitude criticism but haven't seen anything to explain why.

I'm cautious of him because of his injury record and his apparent salary requirements, not because of attitude concerns.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,201 ✭✭✭Jofspring

If Oshimen was just about wages he surely would have accepted the Saudi deal. No one in Europe is going to give him the apparent wage demands. He probably wants to be one of the highest paid strikers but can't see it being 450 or 500k like reported. I'd imagine closer to 300/350 is what he wants.

I also think it's way too early to call it on Ugarte and Mainoo. Anyone remember Rodri when he first came in at Man City? Was seen as a poor man's Fernandinho and most thought he wouldn't last long there.

Hopefully with a season under his belt we see and improvement in Ugarte. If not he will be for sale next summer. Kobbie is still very young and has plenty of development left in him and he can always work on his strength. His fundamentals are excellent.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,953 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

Maybe so, but £350k seems to be the upper limit for United. Bruno, Casemiro & Rashford all on or around that.

I just don't think that anyone coming in should go onto that number without proving themselves. Osimhen is probably as close to a guarantee of goals as we can get. But he might (unlikely) flop. He might be a sicknote if he's had a sketchy injury record before and then lands to the Prem to get booted all over the place.

He should be getting an above average base (say £250k) with added incentives based on goals. If he delivers, he'll get what he asked and maybe more. If he doesn't for whatever reason, then he doesn't hit those bonuses and we haven't lumbered ourselves with another unsellable player because of their mental wages.

We know for sure that Rashford and Sancho would be long gone if they weren't glued to their massive United contracts.

Bruno has been consistently one of our best players for years. He earned that top pay bracket. Rashford was given it after one great season and has been living off it ever since. Casemiro was given it based on reputation and has scarcely earned it aside from that first half of a season and the last half of the one just gone. Sancho got close to that top level because the club was run by idiots.

I can't think of any INEOS signing that has tanked in value. Even Ugarte, who I don't agree is a flop, is worth at least 30m. We only paid 42.5m for him, with potential add ons.

Zirkzee and De Ligt still have roughly the same valuations. Yoro is probably worth more - maybe 75m because he showed he's at a high level at only 18 and can cope with the PL. I feel he's over performed relative to what was expected of him in his first season. I really haven't seen many CBs as good as him at that age in a long time. Extremely astute signing.

Dorgu was 25m and I feel he's still worth at least 20. He's unspectacular but solid and versatile and has strength and pace, attributes we're sorely lacking in our squad.

Obviously Heaven was signed for peanuts and is probably worth at least 10m now, if not more.

Overall, the business INEOS have done is light years ahead of what was happening under Woodward/Arnold who were specialist in failures when it came to transfers. Maybe a bit harsh on Arnold given he only oversaw two Summer transfer windows and was put under immense pressure after Ten Hag lost his first two games, but we're still paying the price for those Antony, Casemiro, Onana and Hojlund signings.

    Watching him for two years.

It's funny you question me, but not the lad saying he WILL be one of the best in the world.

One is talking about his potential. Speculation about the future

You are saying he has a poor work ethic. Commentary on his actual character.

they are not th same. so yeah.

Id not be asking the same if you said you didn't think he would make it cause he isn't quick enough, isn't good enough defensively. but saying he wants everything handed to him easy and won't put in work is different.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,035 ✭✭✭kowloonkev

I didn't mean to question his character per se. He might be working as hard as he thinks he can but it still might not be enough to be a top player. I think you can't talk about potential independently of attitude unless it's on a Fifa video game. Otherwise everyone in the united academy can be a top player.

Already seeing the "just signing for the money" comments, he could get the same elsewhere and challenge for Europe.

Probably BS. Price rumoured to be north of £80m so unless we have some serious outgoings happening, I can't see that we can afford this fella.

I assume depending on structure of payments any signing is a possibility maybe? Not 100% on the ins and outs of PSR but say £80m paid over 4 or 5 years is doable if the selling club is happy.

Also this could be a bit of showing Sporting they are looking elsewhere also.
