At least Viktor is kicking up a fuss and could force the transfer

    It sounds promising

    Happy cheery positive position:

The fact that the "Gyokeres unhappy with Sporting" stories have appeared less than a day after the "United have made initial contact" stories may not be a coincidence. Perhaps the latter was true and that has inspired the former.

If we landed Cunha, Mbeumo & Gyokeres within the first month of the window that would be most encouraging. All we'd need then is a keeper (Donarumma) and we'd be in heaven. Yes I know a midfielder would still be on the shopping list but hey, those 4 would be a hell of a window.

    Miserable gloomy negative position:

It's been a week since Mbeumo allegedly said "Man U only", and it's still not done. Now his former boss is likely to take the Spurs job and might want to bring him along.

We should have had sufficient funds to lock up Cunha & Mbeumo without any outgoings so shouldn't this have been wrapped up quickly especially if there effectively isn't any competition?

And if funds are restricting our move to finalise Mbeumo, we definitely don't have another £60m+ floating around for Gyokeres until we shift some of our problem children.

    Reality:

It's just over a week into the window. We have 1 excellent signing and encouraging noises about 2 more. Patience is required. I just don't have much.

A keeper would be great but Donarumma is never happening. Not a chance.

We really should be getting a MF and GK. This is after our worst season ever and it can't be acceptable to not be in the CL next year or at worst , the EL.

Lack of goals the last few years has been our biggest downfall imo. A no.9 is a must without a doubt.

Yeah he sounds like another great professional.

Simon Harris is monitoring the situation...

In fairness it's been well documented that there was a gentleman's agreement for him to leave in the summer in a straightforward deal for a reduced fee to whomever... Now sporting appear to have gone against it to make more money

Genuinely, I think there's a lot of agent spin about Gyokeres at the moment as the huge expected interest in him just hasn't materialised. It wouldn't be the first time United were used in that fashion.

It's silly season, 99% of what you read is gonna be garbage!

I dont think Mitten is the ITK that he likes to sell himself as anymore. In Ole's time he definitely had those connections but in more recent times he seems out of the loop, or his sources are no longer in the loop. I would hope it indicates a less leaky ship because in fairness its a terrible sign of an organisation when information on the inner running of the club is propagating freely on the media.

I say this as someone who likes Mitten and enjoys his United content.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,593 ✭✭✭brick tamland

Of course hes ITK. I actually think its the other way, he knows more than he lets on but doesn't come out and say everything as he's not really a transfer journo and he protects he sources in club.

Click bait nonsense. Has Osimhen actually said this? Lol.

Last Season at Gala was his best in a while but yeah there is a slightly worrying trend here:

    image.png

    image.png

Missed 6 games to muscle issues. But that's not an issue, his most recent and best season fitness wise.

    However…

    Season before at Napoli :

    image.png

2 "bigger" periods out. Hamstring around Oct/Nov and then looks like he misses the end of the season again.

    Season 22/23 is similar:

    image.png

    Season 21/22

    image.png

There certainly a trend of him missing a chunk of games each season with a hamstring or muscle issue / similar

Add in the cup of nations - he'll be gone for a month there and it becomes a lot less attractive.
It's not hard to see him missing a lot of time next season.

Unfortunately Utd don't have that luxury. They need someone to come in and be there each week.

No point us being say here next summer and saying "oh we looked great when Osimhen played but he only played 15/20 times in the league

Well it seems Talk sport may have click baited....Not like me to post something without looking into it 👀

Mitten was at OT last week and they only mentioned 10s (Mbeumo) there was no striker talk.

Ya that quote from Mitten is from a interview a few days before the links to Gyorkeres started to ramp up. As you say he also mentioned it was the week before that he was in old trafford and his name wasn't mentioned.

I reckon it could be United want him. They aren't willing to cough up the now apparently higher transfer fee so unless Sporting drop the price back to around the £55m it's dead in the water. They will need to sell players to fund it but I'm sure they are confident of offloading at least 3 players. Garnacho, Antony and Malacia. The rest could be trickier.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,350 ✭✭✭FrankN1

It seems it will happen anyway which is good. Now to GK or MF after that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,795 ✭✭✭Robson99

We need to get the middle of the park sorted. It would have been easier to sort if we had gotten the 100m for Bruno. I don't see Bruno and Mainoo working together, nor do I see Bruno and Ugarte working. Casemiro just won't have the legs. So what do we with Mainoo and Ugarte. To get the best out of Bruno or Mainoo you would want to get the likes of Onana from Villa or Tonali. Basically someone athletic and comfortable on the ball. Ugarte simply not good enough. To me it will be either Bruno or Mainoo. It's possible Mainoo will be sold when it should be Bruno given his age

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,955 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

If Mainoo is (as alleged) insisting on £180k week though, sell him.

He hasn't come close to earning it and we can't afford to let him run it down and leave on a free.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,847 ✭✭✭AidoEirE

Mainoo is best just on the cusp on the outside/inside of the opposition box. He's brilliant and getting that setup touch and shoot in tight time.

He'd be wasted in the middle and should be played a bit more further.

The 10 positions are stacked though with Cuhna and the likely signing of Mbeumo.

He's young and still growing his game. Bruno, Cas are on the cresp of the hill. Cas gone next summer and Bruno stick around a bit more.

Mount although a brilliant presser I'm not to sure

It's a funny unlucky we don't have more games next season but in all, 38 games(?) next season should really get this team gelled and have it slammed down in what the manager wants.

Amorim complained about training time with the squad. With one game a week hom and the players will have plenty of time as well as a pre season.

Think we'll see a top 5 challenge next season.

I love the Cuhna signing, Mbeumo as well. Gykoeres is a signing I'm kind of afraid of.

Had a phenomenal year but he won't get the same time etc in the league.

I tried to look but anyone know how many of his goals were peno's?

Not to be a Debbie downer just wondering.

    Sorry, quite a bit there.

20 penos I read somewhere. Agreed fully that he would be a gamble but the reality is that we absolutely need a striker and we aren't going to get one that's guaranteed to get goals unless we were buying someone like Isak, Kane or Haaland, none of which have even the remotest chance of happening. If we could get Gyo for around the £50 to £55m mark plus add ons then I think we'll buy him. He'd be getting service from Amad, Bruno, Cunha and hopefully Mbuemo. After bagging nearly 70 league goals in the last 2 years you'd expect him to hit at least 15 to 20 goals for us aswell as a few assists. An extra 20 goals for us shoots us well up the table.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,070 ✭✭✭✭billyhead

I don't think we will get Gykoeres after signing Mbeumo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,795 ✭✭✭Robson99

I don't disagree re his positioning, but he will possibly have Cunha and Mount ahead of him on the left and Mbeumo and Amad ahead of him on the right 10, maybe even Zirkzee as well. I really hope he stays but it doesn't look good for him.

As I said he would have been better off if Bruno had left

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,664 ✭✭✭Hodors Appletart

I think given the signings/links Amad will be predominantly a RWB option

Possibly, but even so Mainoo's game time could be very limited
