Lazy both-sides arguments are a pound a penny on this thread.

There's a real disturbing trend emerging from certain quarters of targeting journalists.

The US Regime must have been taking notes on how the IDF are able to get away with it.

It’s ok when journalists start falling out of windows or getting shot in apartment block stairwells or just plain disappearing

We will still have slow boiled frog croacking noises along lines of “but but checks and balances” and “wait and see”

No doubt the president's example of banning journos who ask awkward questions from the White House has filtered down to street level.

Remember it started as far back as 2015 when Trump started calling the press "The enemy of the people"

unfortunately Trump seems able to do as he pleases, he is surrounded by political acolytes, who are trying to get as close as possible to him.
courts are fobbed off as enemies of the elected government.
I didn’t think I’d ever say this, but come back

Newsome to sue Trump, that will be fun.

People were calling for the Irish defence forces to be deployed to crack skulls when O'Connell street was up in flames a couple of years ago, all those supposed far right agitators needed military action according to most people on this forum.

LA is in the grips of violence and fire bombing, local government can't get it's act together to deal with it so of course federal government will intervene.

Trump is a wind bag and lots of negative things can be attributed to him but not wanting one of the biggest cities in America to burn isn't exactly a display of totalitarianism.

    @nullzero

Trump is a wind bag and lots of negative things can be attributed to him but not wanting one of the biggest cities in America to burn isn't exactly a display of totalitarianism.

When a whole tonne of those 'negatives' point toward the introduction of authoritarianism, people are gonna see it and call it out as authoritarianism.

As an aside, which negative things in your view can be attributed to Trump? You say there are lots, so name a few?

It's such a weak standpoint to have. "Well he's done loads wrong, but this isn't it"

That loses all meaning when it's used to downplay every single thing

All that is true, except that Trump waited when it was his supporters. He did nothing when the guys in Michigan stormed the State House. So, based on that, this has nothing at all to do with law and order and protecting the city.

What happened to the infamous "good people on both sides"? Does that not apply in this case?

It is performative nonsense, which is fueled by his hatred of the governor.

The riots started, and within hours, Trump was slagging off the LA leaders and calling in the troops. He didn't even give them a chance to deal with it.

Trump still lying that Nancy Pelosi refused his offer of the National Guard on Jan 6

THere are probably lots of Covid-era facemasks going spare. I would be great to see a huge peaceful crowd giving the 2 fingers to Trump by turning out 100% masked. And while they are at it, use thuse blue masks 😁

As Leroy said, no one asked Trump for help. You are basing his actions on the premise that he gives two sh1ts about L.A., which he doesn't, so that makes a mockery of your point.

    Secondly

"People were calling for the Irish defence forces to be deployed to crack skulls when O'Connell street was up in flames a couple of years ago, all those supposed far right agitators needed military action according to most people on this forum."

Right wing racist arseholes looting for sh1ts and giggles isn't the same as people protesting fascist actions of deporting people illegally without due process.

You are the third poster here defending attacking the protesters. Every single post is devoid of context. Is it a prerequisite when defending Trump?

Trump is a wind bag and lots of negative things can be attributed to him but not wanting one of the biggest cities in America to burn isn't exactly a display of totalitarianism.

If Trump was actually a competent leader, he would use his words and be in LA to diffuse the situation. Instead, he was at a UFC event and sent the national guard in, and posted a few tweets.

Spare us the idea that he doesn't want anarchy. This is EXACTLY what he wants in order to use heavy handed tactics.

Has any other US president ever got sued in their life, even pre- or post-presidency? Can't imagine there have been many.

You have to hand it to Trumpster, setting unprecedented records

There was one car set on fire as far as I saw on news, I didn't see much sign of LA going up in flames. No one has reported looting, again as far as I saw. It appeared to be a relatively peaceful protest until the police and ICE started getting heavy. I don't think there is any doubt that Trump has been stirring it up, he is mad about a whole lot of things at the moment, he has some rage to expend.

Oh, I think we understand perfectly: rioting while waving a foreign flag is good, but rioting while waving the flag of your nation is bad.

He can call for those in masks to get arrested, but if they haven't broken a law it'll be wrongful arrest and get sued up the wazoo.

The Felon says it would be 'great thing' if Homan arrests Newsom: 'I would do it'

The fragile little baby hates Newsom for the same reasons he hated Obama…they're better looking, smarter and more popular than him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,142 ✭✭✭✭kneemos

I dunno, but if the cops and national guard weren't there firing rubber bullets and tear gas would it just be a peaceful protest?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,386 ✭✭✭✭billyhead

Why is there criticism of Trump sending in the national guards. Like everyone else I'm no fan of the man but if ICE are rounding up illegal immigrants and deporting them and people of the same nationality are rioting and looting etc what is Trump meant to do. Stand by and watch?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 30,977 ✭✭✭✭looksee

Can you find us a news report from a reasonably independent source that shows rioting and looting?

Yes, leave it to the states. Wait for the Governor to request the national guard, that's what the law states. This is why he's being sued by the governor of California.

Uhh, how do you determine that the same nationality are being detained illegally are the ones protesting? Like, really? Do they wear signs or barcodes or something.

Plus, small nit, but this the national guard, not guards like they have here - unarmed. Nope, these are guys with serious weaponry, but not a lot of training, and tend to be selected for brutality. You have seen the photos, right?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,274 ✭✭✭✭Leroy42

Buts it's OK. You see, he hasn't actually done it or broken any law so simply saying he would like a political rival to be arrested for no reason other than he doesn't like him is fine.

    1) Like everyone else I'm no fan of the man but

    Doubt

    2) "if ICE are rounding up illegal immigrants and deporting them and people of the same nationality are rioting"

The next part of your sentence is based on that being true. Where are you sources for this hypothetical?

    3) what is Trump meant to do. Stand by and watch?

Why must Trump do anything? This is a State problem which the governor has to deal with. The governor can ask for help, but he specifically didn't. Trump's intervention is making things worse.

While you're batting for Trump, can I ask...

    1) when there were people attacking the Capitol and the police, why didn't Trump send in the National Guard? Remember when he said it was Pelosi's job... And this proves that to be a lie.

    2) are you okay with Trump calling for the Governor's arrest?
