They are not that loyal if they are not going tomorrow

Exactly. Easy to be "loyal" when you're winning all round you.

Will the Leinster final ever match that intensity?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,588 ✭✭✭MfMan

It might surpass it in terms of quality and be less error-strewn.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,134 ✭✭✭kk.man

They are just fed up of losing. I'm going no issue there. This debate needs to gain traction because everyone knows its an all ireland or nothing. Leinster and second best don't cut the mustard that's the plain truth of it.

Great intensity but the referee although a good game was playing for the maximum.

Doubt they'd ever ref a leinster match that lightly in case a match breaks out, but the intensity is hard to replicate in a cavernous mostly empty croke Park anyway.

You boys need another 10 year's in the "doldrums" to start appreciating hurling again.

The Leinster championship badly needs a Wexford V Dublin final to freshen things up. Not your fault you keep winning it but it sucks the life out of it especially for us neutrals

Just to be clear, I support every Kilkenny player and management and make no apology for that.

You will hardly find a hurling pundit out there who expects it to be anything other than chapter three of the trilogy on All Ireland final day , so you should be spared the embarassment of choking on your apology.

    Enjoy the game.

    Fair play to you

Best wishes to KK players today

For the third time in 12 months Cork and Limerick have provided entertainment to rival anything that has gone before. Incredible physicality and spice along with outstanding individual performances. Some show of bottle from the rebels after the trimming a few weeks ago. H

Looking forward to the game today. I hope the ref does something similar to yesterdays game let a few hardy but harmless tackles go the majority of hurling fans won't be too upset apart from J C . I do believe Galway are going to be extremely hard to beat today but I hope there's still a sting in the wasp yet and we show character and pride in the black and amber and take the bull be the horn and show aggression and hunger it's badly needed .

The notion that only the ‘loyal’ will be in attendance today is terribly ill judged. There are many of the most die hard and loyal Kilkenny Hurling people overseas, people with young families or work commitments, people in care or elderly or way outside the county boundary that just physically cannot make it to Croke Park today for one reason or another. Branding them unloyal in anyway cannot be further from the truth.

The truth is that it has become terribly expensive to be at absolutely everything. Be it Senior league, Senior championship, the same for our Minor/U20 teams and supporting our beloved clubs the money that is spent per year attending matches, fuel/transport and food/drink is ridiculous. I do not want to complain too much as I know I’m personally in a privileged position whereby I can afford to do it currently; but I can fully understand why others cannot afford to attend the amount of matches that warrants being branded ‘loyal’ in this forum.

The sheer number of matches in the League and Leinster especially has diluted the product further, with most matches light on entertainment and competitiveness I am afraid. Munster papers over the cracks where there is fierce competition (although I felt the round robin in Munster this year was average enough) and crucially the venues are just the right size to create the atmosphere needed. Added to that is large populations who have seen their counties somewhat starved of success throughout my lifetime that is a serious contributor to the furore surrounding Munster at the moment.

I don’t particularly agree with the idea being in Leinster is detrimental to our chances of All Ireland success either. The truth is there should be a serious intensity and competitiveness in training matches internally to replicate anything the likes of Limerick, Cork or Tipp throw at us but that seemingly has not there within our panel over the last number of years… I do think it is improving but whether it is at the necessary speed to deliver success this year I am not so sure.

Anyway, best of luck to our lads today!

Agree 100%.I am sure that as many Kilkenny supporters who are able to attend Croke Park today will do so,and the idea that somehow being outnumbered lessens our chance of victory is simply untrue I have attended m9st All Ireland finals since 1972(including non Kilkenny ones)and we have always been outnumbered.Going forward I would like to see Counties having to announce official panels say in January and if for some reason a player has to leave panel and anyreplacement announced, also would be great if updates (official not rumour)on injuries etc could be conveyed to public so we know who is/is not available for selection

WWhat's The story with Eoin Cody?? Not involved at all today.. injured??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,100 ✭✭✭kksaints

That goal could be crucial as it was a fairly dire performance from our forwards before that. The two Donnellys haven't been in the game much at all and Billy Ryan and Mullen have been quiet. Some of our shooting has been bad and we need to improve our choice of shot. Kenny and Molloy have done well in midfield and Lawlor has been quality. I'm not sure a four point lead is enough as we've had the wind in that half and while it's not a gale it could be crucial.

Decent last 15 minutes in fairness and a decent crowd too. All lower decks would be full if laois and kildare lads stayed in the ground. Must have 8 or 9 wides I'd say. I think mossy, tj and Billy Ryan will get chances 2nd half. Galway full back line can be got at. Tjs catch was super but there was no one on the run in ti take the pass from him when he got swallowed up.

Kenny needs to be careful on the yellow

They’re absolutely shocking , we should be ahead by more than, except for a bit of wayward shooting, the ref is giving Galway handy frees to keep them in it.

No point from playing for 30 mins! And still counting

    Kildare would beat Galway

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,363 ✭✭✭blackcard

The first thing Derek needs to do is give a kick up the backside to every single Kilkenny player. Stopped playing for the second match in a row. You could see them standing off their men and giving away handy points. Then being asleep for the Galway goal.

Kilkenny had a great third quarter and turned over a lot of ball. Huw Lawlor outstanding again. TJ not the force he was but still important. Billy Ryan, Mossy, Cian Kenny played well. Adrian Mullen improved. I think Shane Murphy and Blanch should be pushing for a place the next day.

I think it is 4 weeks until the semi final probably against Limerick. Eoin Cody should be back then. Outsiders definitely

Well done to the lads. Great to get through to the AI Semi-final. A sixth Leinster title in a row is no mean achievement, regardless of the level of the other teams.

Really worrying though is the drop off in performance when closing out matches. It's happening far too often. Galway got 1-6 without reply between the 59th and 68th minute.

Well done to the kk team and never mind the negativity that's been tossed about.Hugh lawlor. Billy Ryan. Cian Kenny and Tj well done 💪

The lie of the land, Kilkenny semi Sunday the 6th I believe

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,777 ✭✭✭Speak Now

Yeah looks like we have Sunday semi final this year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,363 ✭✭✭blackcard

Forgot to mention Mikey Carey having a good second half.

The 2 outstanding plays for me were Huw Lawlor's catch of a high ball and his drive out with the ball whem Kilkenny were 4 points ahead, his pass to Billy Ryan for a score. Also TJ catching a puckout and pass for Mullen to score

If that shot from Donnelly after flicking the ball off Whelan's hurl and catching it had went over it would have been close to point of the year.
