I want to see how CFTrump handles the JE files accusation..

He has to take a defamation case if he wants to clear his name, if not, he looks guilty

If he takes the case, surely the files finally have to be opened in court as evidence for all to see

Or he can just open the files to everyone

  • Registered Users, Subscribers, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,200 ✭✭✭wanderer 22

Not particularly, being 'mentioned' in the files doesn't really mean anything, especially when it's well known the two were close. Do Trump's supporters seem to care about the accusation? They don't seem to at this stage anyway…whatever the upgrade of Teflon is, that's what Trump is covered with.

Nah he'll just pass it off as Musk being a little b*tch, say he's not in the files or he did nothing wrong, then if asked about releasing the full Epstein files, say "We'll look into that" and then never do anything about it.

Trump won't care about looking guilty. Half of his Presidency is doing stuff that makes him look guilty of something or other (even if it's just defying court orders). He doesn't care about looking guilty, because he knows the effort and collaboration for any group to actually do anything about it is next to impossible.

Guilty men don't care about looking guilty. They care about being found guilty. Unless Musk through DOGE has actually obtained a copy of the Epstein Files and they have something incriminating in them, Musk's tweets (while pretty funny for how petty they are) about Epstein are utterly meaningless. Everyone already knew Trump was in them in some way or form (even if it's just flight logs). Trump's supporters don't care and without Musk showing any proof of anything further there's nothing new.

This pile of steaming 💩 just gets better and better with age, he gonna tear apart the the republicans armed with data he stole from US govt

They'll reconcile quickly and pretend yesterday was nothing. Elon has already replied to a tweet (or whatever they're called now) saying they should make up by replying 'you're not wrong'. The fun is over I'd say.

I am not seeing Musk starting a new party - he was never particularly popular, he was accepted by the Trumpers when Trump was using him but I don't see that he had any significant personal support.

If his aim is to destroy both other parties and he doesn’t lose his billions, third party would be the way to splinter both even if don’t win

The US Treasury must be run by economic illiterates. Ireland is on a watch list for currency manipulation vis-s-vis the US$. No mention from Reuters or the Irish Irish Indo that Ireland does not have its own currency to manipulate. Apparently the Treasury used 3 criteria to add Ireland and Switzerland to the watch list: a trade surplus of at least $15 Billion with the USA, a trade surplus of 3% of GDP with USA and persistent net Dollar asset purchases.

    https://www.reuters.com/world/china/us-finds-no-currency-manipulation-2024-ireland-switzerland-added-monitoring-list-2025-06-05/#:~:text=June%206%20(Reuters)%20%2D%20No,nine%20with%20the%20addition%20of

    https://www.independent.ie/irish-news/ireland-added-to-monitoring-list-of-countries-watched-closely-around-us-dollar-manipulation/a1670465334.html

Neither Reuters not the Indo seem to grasp the absurdity of all this.

They'd buy tickets if it were on pay-per-view, which it would be.

He'd more likely split the right than the center. That's assuming of course he'd have the follow-through or sobriety to actually run a political party…which he doesn't…

Unfortunately I suspect they'll patch this up and be best buddies in no time

@Quin_Dub: You're right on if the Big Beautiful Bill would have to revert to the House for a second vote if Senators made changes to it while it was being debated and then voted in the Senate. This from an article in The Independent 10 hours ago.

Trump has faced challenges getting the bill through Congress. It narrowly passed in the House in May, and The Hill reported Thursday that it is “losing momentum” in the Senate. If the Senate makes any changes to the House-passed bill, as expected, the House will need to vote again on the legislation.

On Tuesday, Greene admitted in an X post that she didn’t read the full text of the bill, missing a section that “strips states of the right to make laws or regulate AI for 10 years.”

“I am adamantly OPPOSED to this and it is a violation of state rights and I would have voted NO if I had known this was in there,” she wrote, adding, “This needs to be stripped out in the Senate.”

Greene went even further with her opposition to the bill on Thursday, saying she will not support it when it comes back to the House for another vote.

“When it comes to AI and regulation, when we get to vote on this bill again, I will be voting no because of this clause,” she said during a House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearing, The Hill reported Thursday.

Or Elon will have his US citizenship revoked and end up in El Salvador.

I'd say give it a week and their relationship will be back on track

He doesn't have to run it; just fund it.

But tje question is whether the kind of party that Musk would like to fund is capable of attracting the kind of support that would make it a credible third force in US politics. Musk's dream party is:

    • Fiscally responsible
    • Authoritarian
    • Pro-corruption
    • Pro-oligarchy
    • Anti-democracy
    • Racist
    • Bigoted
    • Anti-social
    • Anti-community
    • Antisemitic

It's quite a specific wish-list. He would need to find plausible frontmen for such a party but, even if he could, I doubt that the party would attract enough support to displace the Republicans. The US system can really only accommodate two parties; the rest are, at best, pressure groups more than parties

81 years ago Americans (and Canadians and Brits etc) landed in Normandy to fight Nazis

Today the Nazis are in the Whitehouse fighting each other over how to best screw the Americans, Canadians, Brits etc

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 23,829 ✭✭✭✭Tell me how

Exactly! And the Nazi salute, and the insulting people, and the killing of USAID.

If any Democrat or Liberal or Left Wing politician or group entertains Musk for a second if he looks to invest in them to hurt Conservatives, they should be reminded of what he is and judged accordingly.

I burst my sides laughing at that quote. It's like two toddlers fighting over a soother.

All jokes aside, it would be highly advisable for Musk to get out of the USA now. Trump is an absolute lunatic with a lot of power.

Remember Germany in the mid 1930s, there were a lot of opposition voices, and then suddenly there weren't so many.

What makes the lovers tiff between Trump & Musk even funnier is that Trump said the following to German Chancellor Friedrich Merz yesterday in relationto Russia & Ukraine...

Sometimes you see two young children fighting like crazy, They hate each other, and they’re fighting in a park, and you try and pull them apart. They don’t want to be pulled. Sometimes you’re better off letting them fight for a while and then pulling them apart.

Those two old ornery carpetbaggers, The King and The Duke.

Will the townsfolk finally rally together and ride these two rapscallions out of town on a rail?

It seems the management of US defence matters have plans to change the supervision of Greenland's defence from a joint US/European Command jurisdiction to one of sole US [Northern] command according to several US officials. This decision would treat Greenland more like Canada than as part of the Kingdom of Denmark, which it is as a matter of fact. It's already plain that JD Vance has his eyes on Greenland, seeing it as a necessary part of US national defence to the extent he had the Comdr of the USAF base there relieved of command on the basis of a comment by her of the Islands status as Danish territory.

How did Howard Lutnick walk himself into this? Political naivety aside, it's a pretty good illustration of how trade policy is a machine that's finely adjusted and tuned over decades, and you can't just knock it down and rebuild it with a sledgehammer.

“The opposite of 'good' is 'good intentions'”

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 445 ✭✭pjordan

Oh the irony of Trump's comments comparing the situation between Russia and Ukraine to a fight between schoolboys.

I also heard him cringeworthily suggest to Merz, who had to remind him of the significance of June 6th, that "Oh yeah, D-day was a bad day for ye guys" before Merz explained to him that actually it was the start of liberating Germany from the spell and scourge of Nazism.

Another beautiful irony there, one would hope, for a man so ignorant of history, that we are witnessing history repeating itself with the beginning of the end…

Allegedly this is a response from DJT on his website to what Musk did and said. The use of Elon instead of Musk leads me to doubt its sincerity. The threat of a massive increase in tax if the BBB is not passed is DJT waving a cudgel at the Senate and Congress without his usual "thank you for your attention" comment.

    Lol, he's such an idiot.

He said once deals are reached with countries, the tariff will go to zero ('deals' done with China and the UK and the tariffs are still there). He also says tariffs are here to stay (the base rate)

Both can't be right. The administration simply has no clue and are just following Trump's lead.
