Dún Laoghaire to Maynooth service?

While trying to figure out how to get to DCU this weekend an option of getting the train directly from Dun Laoghaire to Drumcondra came up. I didn't realise you could travel from DL to Maynooth via Drumcondra without changing from Dart to Commuter. I can't find any information about this service, how often it runs etc. Anyone know anything about it?

A quick check of the online timetable planner shows one direct train from DL to Drumcondra at 17.49

Other days might have more options (I picked tomorrow as an example)

If you look at the DART and Dublin-Maynooth timetables (it may try to download if you open from a phone) that M-F there is a 17:30 Bray to Maynooth service and a 07:54 Maynooth to Bray service.

They are supposed to arrive at DL at 17:49 and 09:11 respectively, calling at all stops between Grand Canal Dock and Maynooth, but between Bray and Dún Laoghaire only Calling at: Bray, DL, Blackrock, Sydney Parade, and Lansdowne Road.

edit: forgot to add Drumcondra times, they are 18:26 and 08:37 respectively.

There's another one from Bray to Maynooth earlier in the day as well. Probably doesn't show up as it's scheduled as Bray to Connolly, then Connolly to Maynooth. But it's the same train the whole way. I'll try and look it up when I've a chance.

The 9.00 commuter service from Bray serves Dun Laoghaire, Blackrock then all stations from Lansdowne Road to Maynooth. It arrives in Drumcondra at 9.55. Mon to Fri.

I asked a driver a few years ago what was the deal with it and if I remember properly, he said it was a stabling thing, there isn't enough room in the city centre to terminate the service there in the morning, so it runs through to Bray and I guess the evening run maybe something similar.

That's partially correct. It's also about easing congestion at Connolly in the morning. Bray takes a couple of trains out of service and keeps them until the afternoon/early evening. Others run back empty, when it's easier to deal with them, as Connolly is less busy. And some make other services.

Lack of a siding at grand canal makes it hard, and some more being lost at Connolly soon will make it harder.
