So this is what's going on with our Ioniq 5:

It's got sensors front & rear. They're all off by default.

The rear sensors are easy to understand: They turn on when you put the vehicle in reverse.. (reverse also turns on all sensors + cameras)

Front sensors: It's a very wide car and most parking spaces are tight for it. So when I approach a tight parking spot - not in reverse - i find the car's own logic to turn on the parking sensors & surround view cameras a bit "brave". It only happens when you get close enough to something. I usually want them on before I even attempt parking. So I press both buttons (camera + parking sensors) as the 1st thing.

I'm sure this won't be a such a major thing with the very narrow Inster, but this is why you'd use those buttons. (we ordered a Signature that only has rear sensors anyways)

I forgot to ask the dealer when I did the test drive... Does the Inster have V2L? Is there a 3 pin somewhere inside, and are they including an external V2L adapter for the charging port?

It's a really handy thing to have to be honest.

Wonder if it still has the functionality and whether it works with the adapter from my Kia EV6 (ie, same as the Ioniq 5). I suppose I can always try it when I get the car!

Apparantly not, people have tried in this thread have tried and noone has got it to work (aside from one person who it mysteriously worked for)

It apparantly requires hardware which isnt in the Irish spec (I assume they'll sell the "tech pack" , which is an option in other countries as an option when demand is less restricted)

I put a piece of foam at the back of the pad (past the rubber section) so it stops me placing the phone too far in. I butt up against this when I put in the phone, and it charges a lot more consistently now.

Did I see you on Clanbrassil Street today at about 12.15?

The orange looks very well in the flesh!

Cross price listed up on Hyundai Ireland website now, but full specs not added yet…

Wonder if we'll finally be able to get 360 surround cam, sunroof, blindspot cam/warnings, V2L inside/outside, etc. - and light interior with different exteriors than buttercream yellow!

3k worth more of kit? The plug for kettle would be nice…!

OK, so I've seen how I can use this button to switch off warnings arising from forward sensors, which might useful in some circumstances, perhaps when you need to stop right in front of a pillar, but you don't want the warnings to continue.

I'm still not clear on how this works while driving. If I switch off the forward warnings while driving, it just seems to switch it back on itself after 10-15 seconds, regardless of what I do.

Specs for the Cross are up on Hyundai Ireland's site now https://www.hyundai.ie/new-inster/specs.html

    Differences over Elegance are
    - Electric Sunroof
    - Blind spot view Monitor (BVM)
    - Surround View Monitor
    - Vehicle 2 Load (V2L) - Interior & Exterior Plug
    - Blind Spot Collision Avoidance Assist - Rear
    - Parking Collision Avoidance Assist - Rear

I'd love basically all of that, probably worth €3k to me, but I really don't like the look of the Cross 😶

I have a launch edition mainly for light interior - definitely not for the buttercream yellow paint! Pity the cross only comes with a dark interior (I guess fits the rugged image better) as the extra equipment would have been nice.

"I'd love basically all of that, probably worth €3k to me, but I really don't like the look of the Cross"

It's not that much different but I think the roof rack is what makes it a bit ugly, looks like something that belongs on a van.

Another thing with the Inster I don't like, that goes for any EV is the front charge port.

The Cross looks identical to Elegance save for roofrack? I wonder how long til delivery? Yes I went for the cream interior, I wonder when that will be available in all colours…. still waiting tho!

From the site linked, the cross only has the dark interior. Certainly nice-to-have features on it but TBH, for us, the Inster was the first EV that we've looked at and thought it doesn't break the bank to buy and will be ideal for all the shorter drives we do. Creeping up the spec ladder, adding €3k, undoes some of that for us… as nice as those options are.

Has anyone heard anything for the next delivery? I was told in June/July the last time I asked but haven't heard anything lately

My dealer said that a bunch of cars will arrive next week, but they don't know which cars are on the ship.

the “roof basket” is an optional extra on the Cross variant.

Yeah, have since seen that that’s an optional extra alright, and was my only real gripe with it. We’ll see when the time comes, as I’m not quite ready to order yet anyway.

Saw a black Inster I think it was in Carlow Town this evening, great to see new small cars on the road, quite refreshing compared to the flood of ugly big SUV.

I test drove an elegance model today.

Came away very impressed with the packaging, space and the sheer flexibility of it.

It wasn't excessively noisy on the motorway and the efficiency seemed fairly decent at around 15kw/100km for the 20 min drive I had.

It was also much more solid feeling on the road than I expected and one pedal driving was great.

I had some questions afterwards that hopefully could be answered by owners here.

    • Does Android auto work wirelessly?
    • I struggled to enable adaptive cruise control but it seemed to work once ipedal was turned off. Maybe it's by design?
    • How are people finding efficiency on the motorway for longer journeys?

Overall, it's a great car and drives much better than i had expected it to.

It deserves to do well, hopefully it will!

    Thanks

Android Auto needs a cable or a dongle, take your pick.

At last my one has 'landed' in Cork, look forward to getting it next week…. ah well it will be June so…was told first half May when ordered in early March.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,081 ✭✭✭xboxdad

Did they give you a handover date yet?

My dealer says they haven't a clue where the cars are in the country until they actually arrive at them, so I got no date yet.

My daughter spotted three of them on the back of a truck in Cork yesterday morning as she was on the way to school. All Buttercream according to her (she's probably the most excited in the house about getting the Inster 😁)
