Remember when Israel claimed UNWRA had ties to Hamas? Me too:

UNRWA chief Philippe Lazzarini said that despite numerous requests, Israel has never provided evidence for its claims on UNRWA's ties to Hamas, claims that "have put the lives of UNRWA staff at serious risk and harmed the reputation of the agency." Lazzarini said that "the minimum requirements are sufficient evidence and due process. The absence of both more than one year later raises the possibility that the accusations were unfounded."

Lots of posts about Hamas stealing aid, which is certain. But tumbleweed when this happens:

About 20 activists from the far-right Tzav 9 group obstructed the passage of aid trucks meant for Gaza in the Ashdod port in southern Israel.

And yet another letter from IDF Officers that will undoubtedly be ignored:

1,200 IDF officers, both reservists and conscripts, have signed an open letter still in preparation calling on the government and the IDF chief of staff to stop the fighting in Gaza, saying it has become a political war that "doesn't serve Israel's national security and is therefore immoral."

Ehud Olmert nails it yet again:

"What we are doing in Gaza now is a war of devastation: indiscriminate, limitless, cruel and criminal killing of civilians. We're not doing this due to loss of control in any specific sector, not due to some disproportionate outburst by some soldiers in some unit. Rather, it's the result of government policy – knowingly, evilly, maliciously, irresponsibly dictated. Yes, Israel is committing war crimes" – Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert

Just on your first question there, they don't really need to annex do they? In the westbank they just kick the locals out and move in.

I remember when an idiot congressman in the US senate brought in a snowball to prove the climate change didn't exist.

This is the same kind of logic.

Quite simply it is not blind hostility to criticise the deliberate blockade of Aid. Neither is it supporting Hamas to do so. You would be criticising such tactics if anyone else was doing it. The fact you work for a company with links to Israel and have spent time in Tel Aviv you somehow feel compelled to defend Israel. I don't get this at all. If Ireland were doing such things I would have no problem calling it out

Yes he has. The hypocrisy is he would be in uproar if someone posted a photos of a couple of well fed jews, who emerged from hiding after the nazis were defeated, and tried to claim on the basis of the photos that the concentration camps with emaciated Jews couldn't have been that bad afterall. If you have any decency Political Analyst you would now be embarrassed for having posted that and apologise, but I won't hold my breath…

It is the method they are now employing to cleanse Gaza, all in contravention of article 49 of the Geneva Convention

    Starve the population

Open 'food aid' stations in the south

Tell the population to move to the south if they want food

Once the population move south, lock them in and occupy the 'cleansed part'

Rinse and repeat to move the population towards the border with Egypt

Call on Egypt to open the border to allow the population to move into a safe area

Once everyone has left, seal the border with Egypt and occupy the remaining part of Gaza

    A sick and depraved society

If Israel dropped a mini nuke on Gaza, Kier Starmer would still be saying Israel is at risk of committing war crimes and calling for reviews. I am afraid what is going on currently is a ruse to appease Labour party members and the wider public. There will be no action taken against Israel by Britain and the EU. As for ignoring the ICJ, the excuse is the court is anti semitic and bias. Which conveniently ignores the fact that one of the Judges who reviewed the evidence against Bibi and Yovi is a holocaust survivor, who served in previous Israeli administrations.

At no point did you specify that you were talking about the world media. The goalposts were moved when you realized that you couldn't provide the links I asked for.

I hope you don't mind me doing a report card on your answers.

I do, actually. You should have asked my permission before you proceeded.

Ah stop. You know exactly what we meant. The Irish media doesn't even register on the world stage. Many other news networks around the world were afraid to criticise the Israeli actions but the tide has turned. As I said, starving and murdering innocent civilians after all that they have endured isn't very popular no matter what influence you have.

I posted a link yesterday, did you read it? Thoughts on the article?

Nonsense. This is an anonymous forum. I wasn't asking your permission - I was highlighting that I was about to critique your attempt at answers. Don't lecture me on manners after what you have implicitly condoned and ignored.

    Monsters and Cowards

Israeli strike kills dozens sheltering in Gaza school, officials say

An Israeli strike on the home of a Palestinian doctor in Gaza killed nine of her 10 children on Friday. Dr Alaa al-Najjar's 11-year-old son was injured, along with her husband, Hamdi al-Najjar, who is in critical condition.

The nine children - Yahya, Rakan, Raslan, Gebran, Eve, Rival, Sayden, Luqman and Sidra - were aged between just a few months old and 12. The Israeli military has said the incident is under review.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said two of its staff were killed in a strike on their home in Khan Younis the following day.

Gaza aid plan makes faltering start, strikes kill dozens

Israeli strikes killed at least 45 people, local health authorities said.

In Gaza City, medics said, 30 Palestinians, including displaced women and children who were seeking shelter in a school, were killed in an airstrike.

Images shared widely on social media showed what appeared to be badly burned bodies being pulled from the rubble.

Israel's military confirmed that it had targeted the school.

It said that the building was being used as a centre by Hamas and Islamic Jihad militants to plan and organise attacks.

    Organise what attacks???

Almost 4,000 people have been killed since Israel broke the ceasefire.

All of these deaths have been absolutely needless, and it is worth mentioning, had Israel stuck to the agreement they themselves negotiated all hostages would be home by now.

I can deduce nothing else other than they want to keep this going, keep up the killing, and are using hostages as a faux reason. Anything other argument makes absolutely no sense.

IDF troops opened fire on starving people fighting desperately to get food and aid yesterday in the new aid hub they set up, injuring 48. It's absolutely disgraceful and totally inhumane.

I heard that on the news earlier - IDF shooting people at the new food stations.

Remember all those people injured have no medical facilities to go to (all bombed) and there is very little medical aid or drugs available so they are starving and in agony. It's sick and twisted .

    Only Palestinians. Only muslims.

    A mounting humanitarian crisis

The UN estimates that approximately 92 per cent of all residential buildings in Gaza – around 436,000 homes – have been damaged or destroyed since the start of the conflict.

The resulting debris amounts to nearly 50 million tonnes – an overwhelming quantity of rubble that would take decades to remove under current conditions.

Humanitarian organizations warn that the delay in debris removal and body recovery is not only deepening psychological trauma across Gaza but also threatens to become a public health and environmental catastrophe.

    Genocide.

Worth a read. Amos Goldberg is an historian at the Hebrew University of Jurusalem. He has published widely on the Holocaust. He wrote this in April 2024.

Yes, it is genocide. In most cases of genocide, from Bosnia… | by The Palestine Project | Medium

Yes, it is genocide. It is so difficult and painful to admit it, but despite all that, and despite all our efforts to think otherwise, after six months of brutal war we can no longer avoid this conclusion. Jewish history will henceforth be stained with the mark of Cain for the “most horrible of crimes,” which cannot be erased from its forehead. As such, this is the way it will be viewed in history’s judgment for generations to come.

The fact that the military allowed, for example, the killing of 300 innocent people and the destruction of an entire residential quarter in order to take out one Hamas brigade commander shows that military targets are almost incidental targets for killing civilians and that every Palestinian in Gaza is a target for killing. This is the logic of genocide.

Yes. I know, they are all antisemites or self-hating Jews. Only we, Israelis, whose minds are fed by the IDF Spokesperson’s announcements and exposed only to the images sifted for us by the Israeli media, see reality as it is.

It will be several years before the court in The Hague will hand down its verdict, but we must not look at the catastrophic situation purely through legal lenses. What is happening in Gaza is genocide because the level and pace of indiscriminate killing, destruction, mass expulsions, displacement, famine, executions, the wiping out of cultural and religious institutions, the crushing of elites (including the killing of journalists), and the sweeping dehumanisation of the Palestinians — create an overall picture of genocide, of a deliberate conscious crushing of Palestinian existence in Gaza.

Genocide is the deliberate annihilation of a collective or part of it — not all of its individuals. And that’s what’s happening in Gaza. The result is undoubtedly genocide.

In the case of Gaza, the “safe haven zones” have often become death traps and deliberate extermination zones, and in these refuges Israel deliberately starves out the population. For this reason, there are quite a few commentators who believe that ethnic cleansing is the goal of the fighting in Gaza.

He also wrote this in La Monde newspaper in

What is happening in Gaza is a genocide because Gaza does not exist anymore. It was completely destroyed. The level and pace of indiscriminate killing of a huge amount of innocent people, including in what Israel designated as a safe zone, destruction of houses, infrastructures, almost all the hospitals and universities, mass displacement, deliberate famine, the crushing of elites (including the killing of journalists, doctors, professors, civil servants...) and the sweeping dehumanization of Palestinians, create an overall picture of genocide.

I feel like this is an exception to the old adage of "never attribute to malice that which can be attributed to incompetence".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,469 ✭✭✭✭Strazdas

The international media have had their hand forced in the last fortnight. It has become clear to everyone that Israel is now embarking on the ethnic cleansing of Gaza and has no interest in freeing the hostages or 'defeating Hamas'. Incredibly though, the zionist psycho bots on social media are still saying 'free the hostages' and talking about Hamas in every discussion about war crimes in the area and don't even seem remotely aware that the reality of what is happening has long since moved on.

I'd insert the 'why not both' gif, but would probably get in trouble for that

Netanyahu said recently that only 20 of the remaining 58 hostages held by Hamas in Gaza are believed to be alive. Israel breaking the ceasefire has probably killed a lot of the remaining hostages. They are starving and bombing them too.

Israel never provides any evidence for any of its claims.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,125 ✭✭✭dmcdona

Well, apart from evidence they claim as fact which then turns out be be utter lies (15 medics).

It always strikes me that a simple "IDF targeted a Hamas command and control centre" seems to be enough for them whenever there is a report of mass civilian casualties. So yes, there is never any evidence.

Then, after the murder of 9 out of 10 siblings, we get the "IDF is reviewing the situation" statement.

It really does strike home why precisely Israel does not allow the International Press into Gaza. Plausible deniability and the ability to lie through their teeth.

This is interesting - possibly linked to Khan's leave whilst being investigated for allegations against him. Certainly, Smotrich and Ben-Gvir (a convicted terrorist) are particularly odious and outspoken individuals. They make Viktor Orbán look quite pleasant I think.

    Haaretz:

International Criminal Court chief prosecutor Karim Khan was preparing to seek arrest warrants for two far-right Israeli cabinet members, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, before going on leave, The Wall Street Journal reported. These reports come as the United Nations investigates sexual assault allegations against him, current and former court officials have told the Wall Street Journal.

According to the report, the cases against ministers Smotrich and Ben-Gvir center on their roles in expanding Jewish settlements in the West Bank, the officials said.

The court refused to comment on the report but noted that it has a mandate to investigate crimes committed in the Palestinian territories since 2014, when the Palestinian Authority received the court's jurisdiction.

Now, The Hague is examining whether the activities of Smotrich and Ben-Gvir to promote settlements in the West Bank constitute a violation of the Geneva Convention, which prohibits countries from transferring their population to territories they have occupied.
