    The problem is that the more they pander to the whims of the major manufacturers, the poorer the racing will be.

    They need more freedom to ensure the racing is competitive and the drivers ability make more of a difference.

    don't forget reduced width of track with barriers and catch fencing. that photo from the 60s there's just pavement and shop fronts.

    The funny thing about that 1965 GP is that the finishing podium was almost identical to qualifying.

    Qualifying: Graham Hill, Jack Brabham, Jackie Stewart, Lorenzo Bandini.

    Race: Graham Hill, Jackie Stewart, Lorenzo Bandini. Brabham's engine blew up.

    Having said that, there were overtakes and Hill didn't lead all the way. Just amusing to see an almost identical order in the race from qualifying.
