'Tis good. Wide menu too, and a good restaurant space. Much better use of the room than the previous restaurant.

I know this isn't Limerick but if you're ever in Ennis, check out Istanbul for a doner kebab. I can't believe how good they are for a non-city.

TGTG (too good to go) app. For people who are regular users in Limerick what are your recommendations? I notice there is a new bakery based in the Crescent on it - are their bags mainly sweet or savoury

James Whelan butchers in Jetland can be good sometimes. The breakfast in the Clayton is unreal value! Thankfully I don’t live close to NOM treats, otherwise I’d be 5 stone heavier.

Seeing ‘Eat Street’ being advertised on social media as coming soon to Limerick. Anyone know anything about this?

    Hi Everyone!

I am a Masters student in the University of Limerick and a couple of colleagues and I are doing market research on the night-life in Limerick and if late-night cafes are feasible within the city.

If anyone here would like to answer the survey below it would be very helpful.

Also if anyone has other input into the matter, such as safety issues, particular cafes that it could work with, transport issues, alcohol culture and the expense of 'pub-life', and if entertainment would be influential do the over all decision of choosing a café, over a pub.

Thank you in advance for your time.

Any recommendations for a Friday night, have some friends coming down and we want to take them to dinner, somewhere that is good food and where we can sit and chat or go for drinks close by. rarely eat out anymore, so stuck for ideas, will be driving so doesn't matter where it is really.

Melody is somewhere really nice that's a bit more casual than your average restaurant. Oahu are doing evenings now with a similar casual atmosphere.

D'oh pizza would be a good spot for that too. Taikichi next door is amazing but small so depends how many friends.

All are based in the same area as the majority of pubs.

I’d recommend the Woodfield on the Ennis road. Food is really good and you can stay there with for your drinks. Great atmosphere.

thanks for the suggestions, in the end we left the city and headed for Nevilles near Adare. Fabulous food and a lovely relaxed atmosphere.

Had a nice Lunch in The Bedford over the weekend, simple and done well for a reasonable price.

Went to Bobby Byrnes for dinner the same evening and was a bit let down. The Soup was so thick it was more of a puree and I had a chocolate brownie that had more nuts than brownie. And more disappointingly the Toilets werent in great shape which is something so easy to get right. Left a bit disappointed. Know the Byrne family so been going there for years.

Food in Bobby's under the Byrnes was the absolute epitome of blandness. Typical unimaginative rip off pub food.

Bobby Byrne's is under new ownership now so maybe that is a factor. Haven't been in there since it changed hands, but always found it good before.

Bobby Byrnes has a menu from 2005, it is like a time capsule. It's the most basic pub food yet they brand themselves as a gastro pub with great food.

What breaks my heart about those generic menus is that type of pub used have carveries which is simple food done the right way.

All over the country you pass pubs that people of a certain age would think "bet they do a great carvery" only to find it now does a mishmash of deep fried or bland crap.

random one but does the guy still sell hot dogs outside teds/o connell street adter club hours. He had some business back in the day. Think i last saw him around 2008 but havent been out in limerick much since

Fast Eddie is long gone. The fact there are so many late night places to do food now killed any business he had. Back when he started the only place that was open late was Friar tucks, the Lobster pot Kranks and Supermacs. Nowadays there are so many options. Also the Councils rules on casual trading would make it impossible, remember during Covid when a few tried to open coffee vans on the three bridges walk?

when u say long gone do you mean 15 to 17 years or like 5

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,147 ✭✭✭adaminho

Yeah 15 odd years ago. I started going there in the early 90's.

fast Eddie was great if you liked hot dogs to go without the rush of late night places of Supermacs. Abra. Mcds. Burger King woking. Etc

Was also just a nice guy. Wouldn't mind giving him your few quid.

He was a really good bloke👍

His burgers and Tacos were top notch .
Nights out always finished with a Fast Eddie feed … or a hot chicken sambo in Javas on Catherine Street 😋

    Halcyon days

Has anyone tried the Turkish Grill on William St. How good is it?

Interesting little Indian restaurant in the parkway called Chatori. It's part of an Indian grocery shop. Almost like a carvery style where the food is prepared already. Tried a few different dishes. All very tasty. Quite cheap (mostly vegetarian from I saw which keeps the prices down I guess). 7 euro for a decent sized portion of potato curry and rice for example.

I've been meaning to try it but I'm rarely out that way.

I think the takeaway menu there is entirely meat-free, but that's not a negative. We tried about half the menu back in the summertime and loved everything!

Anyone able to recommend an old school tea n scone type spot for Lunch please?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,355 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

O&F on Little Catherine St. is the most old school these days.

Nothing too outrageous about Wildberry either. If I had to take my granny for coffee I'd gk there.
